Mum On The Run

Mum on the Run's Laura Mazza reveals her most shocking 'mum confessions'

Laura thought wrong as with all kids, can't remember where there shoes are but will always rememb I absolutely loved this book, after starting running last year and last week running my first 10k race I could totally relate to the running side of the book.

Laura thought wrong as with all kids, can't remember where there shoes are but will always remember something like that. Falling flat on her face, after seeing her husband Jed with some infatuated young women she begins to ask herself questions about herself and her marriage. This is a great light hearted read about the struggles of family life, and a women's self esteem. Aug 19, Fiona Sing rated it it was amazing. This was my first Fiona Gibson book and it will defiantly not be the last!!! I absolutely loved this book..

This book had me laughing out loud and also brought a tear to my eye it completely pulled me in!! Looking forward to my next Fiona Gibson read: Benefit of sport If you got out of shape you'd better start doing sport and get in shape so save your marriage and gain your confidence back. Aug 04, Velma Bevan rated it really liked it.

Chick lit at its best. Enjoyable read, but way too simplistic. Laura's made out to be very overweight, but at some point it's stated that she's really only about 10kg overweight, which isn't enough for all the fat jokes in the book.

Her ordeal with shapewear is a little ridiculous, goes so far over the top that it's just irritating to read about. I felt for Laura's daily drudgery, and I think the troubles that occurred at Celeste's party were absolutely believable, but on the other hand, I don't think they may have ended up quite so disastrous in most cases.

See a Problem?

A drip here, a slop or two there, but it sounded as though she practically poured wee over herself. Jed's own response to some of the situations was absolutely incredible. On the one hand, he could be an absolutely selfish bastard who considered no-one but himself, yet on the other hand he was the most amazing husband ever, more understanding and considerate that mine certainly is. His refusal to talk about issues was just stupid, considering how far the gap between them was widening.

Laura's reaction to Danny was pretty understandable, any woman feeling invisible would welcome the attention of a nice, attractive but not too perfect stranger. Of course Laura and Danny had to undergo metamorphosis, which seemed reasonably effortless considering. To go running a couple of times a week and make no further attempt at any other change in lifestyle is all that is required to get you super slim in a reasonably short time.

While some of the benefits of running were stated well, for example the feeling of strength and fitness and the ability to clear one's head, it is not a magic potion. It is also something which is not all that easy to get into and this beginning process was glossed over after the first disastrous attempt.

Somehow they managed to continue on very successfully.

I want to be proud and at peace with this body. I guess this story is something we, women, can relate to at some point of life.

I know that running took me absolutely months to get to a point where I felt I could do it reasonably easily slowly. Laura's job is also only referred to occasionally, but clearly the struggle of juggling a family, a career, taking up running and attending slimming classes is one that is a pretty hard slog. The focus of this book was much more about Laura's sex drive than anything else in her life, yet they would all have played huge parts in her sense of self and ability to manage.

When Danny offered to photograph Laura, her immediate reaction upon arriving at his place was utterly ridiculous. Regardless, the resolution of her feelings for Danny are all neatly wrapped up at the end, as is the Celeste situation. I had wondered at one point if the person we saw coming out of Celeste's was going to turn out to be her clandestine lover, putting paid to Laura's worries, but no, that would have been too easy. It was a nice bit of fluff to read, with a smattering of true mummy insight, but it was weighed down by too much of the outlandish stuff for my liking.

Having never read Fiona Gibson, but constantly seeing good reviews I opted to choose Mum on the Run for my first read. Laura Swan is a typical mother, and in true chick lit style we see the opening of the book showing us just how much she was dreading the kids school sports day. In the first few chapters I was chuckling away as Gibson describes how the other mothers will no doubt have been in training for this race, and will arrive impeccably dressed and no doubt make her look foolish. I warmed to Laura straight away and found the first few chapters very amusing which made it so much easier to immerse yourself in the story. Laura's husband Jed seemed to be a bit of a flake from the get-go and I didn't particularly like him at first. The overall plot is one that has been used countless times in this genre but unless the writing is terrible never fails to win the readers over.

I think it's because the majority of us can empathise with at least one element of the story. Laura is your typical housewife who has married and had children. Maybe she has let things slide a little but when she sees the perfectly turned out, and beautiful French woman Celeste, talking to her husband it spurs her into action. She decides to start running and join a weight loss class. She meets Danny at the weight loss class and straight away I loved his character. I also really liked Laura's children in this book. They were written brilliantly and I found myself grinning at some of the remarks they made!

The story was sadly a little predictable, but this didn't lessen my enjoyment of the book. She has certainly used the tried and tested chick lit formula but has managed it with tongue in cheek humour and some great characters. Although this book wasn't necessarily one of the best I have read this year it certainly made me smile. It took me just over a day to read and I think the majority of people that read this will like it for what it is!

I will certainly be looking out for new stuff by Fiona Gibson, and in the meantime will add her other books to my ridiculously long list of other books to read! Jul 13, Cher rated it it was amazing Shelves: Somehow this book gave me a lot to think of. I love romance, I love the get-together part of romance. But this is not a story of finding love.

Mum on the Run is about igniting the old sparks. This is the journey of Laura reclaiming her sexuality and keeping her family together. I guess this story is something we, women, can relate to at some point of life. The case of losing identity. In her 20s, Laura was a cheerful, bright woman who loves good laughs and companion of others. Her relationship wi Somehow this book gave me a lot to think of.

Her relationship with Jed was passionate and lovey dovey. Three children later in her late 30s, Laura is busy juggling between parenting and her part time job. She is now a size 16, her breasts are not as perky, her nether region are not as groomed, and her tummy is saggy. For a woman, Life can be a constant heartbreak. Laura was at the annual Mum's race embarrassing herself while her husband was ogling his new colleague, the sweet-fit-perky-crafty-fine-french-lady Celeste.

Her teenage son, being the usual identity seeking teen, seemed to be ashamed of her and wanted nothing to do with her. Her daughter and her toddler were just being kids, busy throwing tantrums and wreaking havoc. Facing the more immediate Celeste challenge, Fiona was determined to regain all the colours in her now dull life by signing up to the "fat club". While she found back some excitement from her new routines, her relationship with her husband was drifting apart.

In the verge of splitting up, she had to outweigh the pro and con of staying in the marriage, with the pros includes the consideration of the kids, her in laws, and other outside factors while the con includes how her heart ached because of the Celeste drama.
