Even towards the end when he finally gets how tough it is to be on the sidelines, he is still smirking at her etc. It may just have been me misreading the language, but to me he was a very flawed character.
The plot worked, and both dramatic and exciting. The story is intense, and works well - and the ending Garrett thought everything at home was just fine. When Garrett came home from his latest assignment, he discovered his personal life was in shambles. However, Cathryn had suffered Originally posted at: They both have completely different views on their marriage and history together, and this causes frequent arguments. In fact, Garrett and Cathryn spend so much time fighting and lashing out at each other that it was a little hard to get into the story at first.
I found myself taking breaks from reading Deadly Obligations because I needed to pull away from the intensity of the fights. The thing that kept me coming back to the book was my curiosity as to how things between them would turn out, and the hope for a happy ending. I admired his dedication to the military, but disliked the fact that he took his wife and children for granted. Even when he learns of her plans, he arrogantly believes he can swoop in and smooth everything over.
However, I was very pleased that Garrett lost a bit of his ego as the story progressed. I admired many things about Cathryn. She only cries behind closed doors. Though she suffered a terrible loss, Cathryn still manages to hold her life together. That sort of strength is hard to come by. When Garrett and Cathryn stop fighting, they make a good team. After they learn their daughters have been kidnapped, they work together to bring them home. I must mention that I was not entirely happy with the way the story ended.
Garrett and Cathryn go through a lot of pain and turmoil throughout the story. In the last chapter of the book, they are finally on their way to finding some peace and happiness together. However, on the very last page something happens that could rip it all away again.
Despite this issue, I thought Deadly Obligations was a good book. I liked Cathryn and Garrett, and I enjoyed watching them learn to work together and rediscover their romance. I recommend Deadly Obligations to anyone looking for an intense military themed suspense. She now has a huge fan for life!! I don't think I have ever seen a better first novel out there! Not a single carry-on part, no mistakes in characters or their locations and incredibly engrossing, I truly could not put this book down! We are introduced to sexy alpha Green Beret Garrett Jensen, a man who doesn't exist in most of the world's eyes, because of the intense secrecy of his job.
Garrett comes back off of the mission and is devastated with Catherine's decision.. Catherine will not be left behind as Garrett heads out to find his daughters. Even as she decides that she wants Garrett back in her life, that decision may end up being taken out of her hands.. Or are Garrett's enemies not about to let him leave the country alive? I am a true fan of Tamara Mc Hatton for life! The cover is truly gorgeous and shows the intensity of the life of a Green Beret.. Tamara McHatton will is a force to be reckoned with in the world of new authors!
Nov 30, Anne rated it it was amazing. Their story highlights the differences in thinking between men and women. Women are definitely a mystery to Garrett, although he doesn't realize it. In typical alpha fashion, everything can be solved in the bedroom. I was very pleased to see that over the course of the story, Garrett comes to change that tune. When Garrett comes home from his latest Special Forces assignment, he is handed divorce papers by his commanding officer, to his way of thinking out of the blue. No problem, Garrett thinks, he will just talk to Cat, make her see how much he loves her, and it will all go away.
She just doesn't realize how important his job is, protecting their way of life for his family, is how he sees it. Uh, no, not going to be so easy, Garrett. A short time after he left on assignment, Cat lost the son she was carrying.
Not a single carry-on part, no mistakes in characters or their locations and incredibly engrossing, I truly could not put this book down! Lyn rated it it was ok Dec 20, Catherine will not be left behind as Garrett heads out to find his daughters. That sort of strength is hard to come by. This book stands alone really well from the first. But Bobbi one of the recruits for their new team also had some from her POV.
Although she tried to tell him something was wrong with this pregnancy, Garrett didn't take her seriously and off he went. Cat, subsequently, moves out of their home with her two daughters and gets a job to support them. Emotionally she is a mess, especially when Garrett comes back determined to have his family back. This story puts you through the wringer emotion-wise in spectacular fashion. It is a clean, fluid, well-written story that has you nodding your head in sympathy for both points of view.
When their two daughters are kidnapped, the couple is thrown together in an attempt to retrieve them. Garrett starts to realize that maybe Cat didn't need protecting all these years, as he learns of her incredible strength and, indeed, starts to feel that maybe she is the strong one in their relationship. Cat starts to realize just exactly what Garrett is doing in those far away countries, and what he is protecting his family and country from.
As the danger heats up, so does the passion that had never left. The fight to get the girls back is gripping and well done, with a twist at the end that will leave you shaking your head. This book really had me thinking about military families that I know. While I always wonder how in the world the spouse at home deals Especially when the spouse has the secretive missions that some Special Ops groups must have. I can't imagine not even having any form of contact for months and months at a time.

While I found it a bit ridiculous that Cathryn pushed her way into joining him on the mission to saver their daughters and that Garrett couldn't figure a way out of bringing her I did appreciate the idea that it truly gave each of them a chance to really see what the other deals with.
Cathryn can really understand why Garrett's missions are so important to him It was really eye opening. I can tell you that I believe that military spouses are every bit as heroic as soldiers. While the action, adventure, and suspense of the novel made for a fun read It was a really emotional journey. I was surprised by Deadly Obligations. This book had me on an emotional roller coaster from the start.
As her story unfolded, I felt deeply for the pain that she had to go through alone while her husband was on missions. From her view, you just want to throttle her husband.
Garrett, returns home to find that his life has been turned upside down. He knows only that his mission is over and he wants to go home to his family. A family that he might not have any I was surprised by Deadly Obligations. A family that he might not have any more once he walks in the door at home. There was a point where Cat insists on going with Garrett and that part of the journey where I did have to dispend belief that a civilian would be allowed to go with a SEAL team. Cat and Garrett work towards better understanding each other and their own needs. This book brought it all home.
This is the first book in the Call of Duty series. The book starts off in a tense and dangerous place and just goes on from there. It touches on what happened at the end of book one but I still wish that there was more resolution to that story. That being said this book was much more exciting and full of new characters. I was drawn into the story really fast and intrigued to see what happened. There were a lot of characters in this. But Bobbi one of the recruits for their new team also had some from her POV. Their This book stands alone really well from the first. Their was a little bit of romance for Bucky and Chan.
I really liked them together. They had great chemistry. I hope the next book will focus on Bobbi and maybe more of the other recruits. This was a fun read with some action and excitement. It was also really interesting to get the insight into some of the training and exercises that they did. I look forward to reading more with this author and hopefully this team. Dec 03, Kim rated it it was amazing. I thought that the first book was good. Deadly Loyalties is better! It is more action packed and moves faster. This book focused on Bucky and Chantilly.
Chantilly is brought in to create an elite team made up of the best and Bucky is one of her trainers. They have explosive chemistry. While they are training the elite team the bad guys are working on a domestic terrorist plot. I really enjoyed learning I thought that the first book was good. I really enjoyed learning about all of the cool toys that this elite team would get to use. I wish we would have seen more of these toys in action, but it probably would have dragged out the book. The story did wrap up very quickly at the end to a good ending. This was the second in the book but I felt it could be read as a stand alone.
Nov 20, N. Kuhn rated it really liked it. I love how details, unanswered questions from the first book are answered in this one.
I enjoyed the new characters, and the fact that there was more of a cast to this story. Although a part of the story line i can not say without ruining the books left me with another unanswered question.
Bucky was exciting to see ore of. Chan is a kick ass woman. I really enjoyed her in this book. Lady G was interesting, and I'd love to see a little more of her spunkiness! This was once again, an great mili I love how details, unanswered questions from the first book are answered in this one. This was once again, an great military story. It's not as action packed as the first one, but it's still a great read.
A wonderful continuation to the first book in this series. Dec 22, Peggy rated it really liked it. This book, I feel, leads right off the first one. So I do recommend that you read them in order. The thrill continues with new characters. Page turner one the edge of your seat, no disappointments in this one! If you have read either of these by now, you're gonna miss our on some great books!
