I have an 8, 10 and 12 year old. We read them outloud as a family and we all love them. I am a guest speaker in the my 8 year old's 3rd grade class and I am reading them to her class. The teacher and my daughter tell me the class asks when I am coming in next to read some more!
We are through book 1 and in the middle of book 2. The teacher has never read them and reads ahead of the class. I have found myself doing that too sometimes!

The teacher and I agree - brings back memories of 3rd grade - the playground, the chalkboard, etc. Really great series - highly recommended! This particular book is a black spot on an otherwise commendable series that teaches empathy through the experiences of Katie Kazoo. Hopefully this particular book is an aberration. Although the children are all familiar characters with individual quirks or flaws, prior books in the series have not lauded these flaws.
Although the children are old enough to know better and have a teacher known for her discipline, in this book they behave rudely and destructively.
The author not only condones their behavior by not correcting it, she has the students unite to mock Katie for being a "goodie-goodie" until she too behaves badly. Although the Katie of prior books would have found an acceptable way to make her statement against animal cruelty, the Katie of this book chooses a course of action that frightens toddlers into loud wails.
Although Katie feels a little badly about making the children cry, she is proud of no longer being a "goodie-goodie. From now on I will preview the books of the series before I read them to my grandchild. Well, I have to agree that I'm not thrilled that Katie "gives in" to not being a goodie goodie and starts misbahaving like the others.
And even if she did for a moment, they should have her revert bac to what she believes and be that goodie goodie in the end. That would have taught a better lesson to young minds to be true to yourself and not be a follower but a leader. One person found this helpful. This was one of the better Katie Kazoo books in the series.
When Katie Carew goes to a museum of history, many kids in her class are getting into trouble and are calling Katie a goody-goody. A Kid's Review 4. I think that this book is really good. And I think you would too.
