Lions is a first r Lions of the Grail is set in the early s and is based on two actual events of that era, one well known and the other lesser known. Lions is a first rate example of the high adventure tradition with lots of action, intrigue and romance no explicit sex. The characters are well developed and believable.
As the title implies there is a Grail quest theme, but it is handled realistically and not as fantasy.
As adult fare, it is more than fine. Some minor production issues but not enough to detract from an exciting, well-paced thriller. Put your brain on hold and go for the ride. The author went overboard describing battle scenes and shipwrecks.

I do believe He knew that some seekers were seeking power and wealth in the name of Jesus. The rotten apples were just hidden away in the bottom of the cart. The characters of Alys and Richard kept the read alive for me. They kept meeting in strange places under strange circumstances while generally saving the other's life. About Keeper of the Grail As an orphan, Tristan never dreamed he would travel the world or discover the truth about his past.

The Door to the Lost. Ghost of a Chance. His story is compelling, as is his relationship with the heroine, who is in herself is a strong woman. I especially liked his feelings about being a Templar and the fall of the Order. The grail quest at the end is interesting, but not the heart of the real story. This story kept my attention throughout the entire book. It's an entertaining read and a very interesting historical anecdote of what happened after Robert the Bruce defeated the British in Scotland in the early 14th century.
I enjoyed this story and recommend it to anyone that is interested in this period.

I enjoyed this book. It's the genre I like and it was written with some style and dash. Likeable heroes and heroines and boo-worthy villains abound. The actions scenes are bloodthirsty enough to satisfy the warmonger reader and the historical setting is soundly researched; with the fictional characters inter-relating well with the real history people.
The romance is not too soppy either, which is a plus point for me. I was confused when our hero, following almost a week recuperating in bed, was said to be dizzy standing up "so long after being perpendicular. Well worth a read and the story ending gives a strong indication that a sequel will be forthcoming; I will certainly have my eye open for it. This is a terrific read! I especially admire writers whom are able to take a small period of history not overworked by other authors and with imagination, creativity, and just plain "story telling" talent can create an exciting, interesting, believable almost , entertaining tale.
Such is this work. I am a new fan of Mr. Hodkison's work but will certainly read more of his offerings. I would certainly like to encourage Mr. Hodkinson to continue the story of Edward Bruce's efforts to steal a kingdom Hours that I'll never get back. I am a long-time, avid, reader of historical novels and this one failed miserably. If you're thinking of buying it and like me thought: It started a little slow then ground to a halt after that. The character development was non-existent.
The story was dull. The part where he gets a haircut may be the most interesting chapter. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. See all 64 reviews. Most recent customer reviews.
