So after taking it apart I started over and tried it on and altered as I went. It has NOTHING to do with Olivia's instructions, it's just that hats are tricky little things when you aren't used to working with them to make them fit properly. Otherwise, it's a great learning project and her designs are gorgeous!

I read the directions and it's a very easy project. It uses basic stitches and it is so well written that anyone even a beginner could understand.

Are you referring to the "Chain 3" at the start of Round 1? If so, the first chain acts as the magic loop. Then the other 2 chains count as the first HDC.
