This is an amazing book and a very promising start to the Gladiators series. So how do you rate a book that will definitely stay with me because of cringe worthy moments such as this: Then take them out with your teeth and your tongue. Jemin licked his lips, his cock already hard.
I pressed the grapes into his anus—three, then four. I plunged into him and shouted out with joy as I took his tight, needy little ass. Fuck my ass, Gold! Or maybe because of the gripping dialogues that will touch you with their lifelike realism: My cock is miserable. We are alone, you and I. Shortly after, I walked through the house in the direction of the courtyard with the plug and strap uncomfortably in place.
I wished Phineas would get over this foolishness.
It only served to make me cranky. I was a little stiff today, but the cream Julian had applied to my anus the night before had helped. Is this book very heavy on sex scenes? One could get the impression it is, LOL. Seriously, though, I cannot really put my finger on the reason why I actually like this series. The sex is literally on every page, but it is flat and as exciting as a cup of coffee-to-go. But the few moments when lovers do come together and I'm saying lovers as in more than two, actually , the sex is sweet and pretty touching.
I just wish the POV switches were a bit more elaborate. At the beginning everything is fine with passages separating them clearly, but towards the end the POVs switch back and forth like crazy within a passage and even a third POV is thrown in at the end, which made reading this really difficult. All in all, this sure deserves 3 stars. I love the lives of gladiators and although I don't believe the ancient gladiators sucked grapes out of anyone's asses or had to train wearing a butt plug all day, Gold's story is pretty decent and satisfies my current 'gladiator phase'.

Aug 15, Serena Yates rated it it was amazing Shelves: This second book of the Gladiator series is no less amazing than the first. It contains the same vivid descriptions of the environment, the detailed look at the way people lived at the time, and the as far as I can tell historically accurate background of how society and politics worked. I thought the first volume was hard to read in places, because it was so heartrending, and the characters' desperation almost leapt off the pages.
This second one, though, left me emotionally drained due to th This second book of the Gladiator series is no less amazing than the first. This second one, though, left me emotionally drained due to the depths of depravity some of the secondary characters sank into. What scared me most was the knowledge that many people today are no different, given the chance.
He is separated from Samson, whom he loves deeply, with no hope of ever seeing him again. Other than having to fight him in the arena, which tears Gold apart. On top of which, his new master is more cruel than the last. While Phineas treats his gladiators with a little more physical comfort, his psychological and sexual games are far more cruel than Simeon's. I have no idea how Gold can stand the torture, but it makes very clear that he is a survivor of amazing physical and psychological strength.
Samson is the one left behind, also with no real hope of ever seeing the man he loves again. His feelings for Gold are his biggest weakness, and even though he is attracted to other men, deep-down he knows they can never replace Gold. It makes the upcoming battle in the arena a scenario he will do anything to try to prevent.
This series is thoroughly recommended for people who like historical novels, and everyone who has an interest in understanding how human nature works under adverse conditions. While I look forward to reading the next volume, I know it won't be any easier to get through. Not that this will stop me from plunging right into it, since I can't wait to see what happens and if, indeed, the ending will be as happy as I still hope it is. Nov 28, Karen K rated it it was amazing Shelves: Gold was so strong and resourceful in his new position and surroundings, doing what he knew he had to do and what was expected of him.
At first I was a little pissed at him for seeming to forget Samson so quickly and wanting another so soon, but I was wrong. Gold is still my boy, but I warmed up to Samson more in this one. I developed more respect for him in this book especially when he showed his own resourceful and brutal side. I felt quite the opposite for Claudius who really needed a good beat-down for his arrogance and cruelty. I hope someone does that for me in the next book. View all 6 comments. Sep 09, Don Bradshaw rated it really liked it Shelves: The brutal depravity of Rome is expanded on again in book two, House of Phineas.
