Scott Ian, famous for cofounding legendary thrash metal band Anthrax and only slightly less so for his iconic beard, has done and seen a lot in his decades of touring. Those of you who have heard Scott's memoir I'm the Man may know the history of the band, but Access All Areas divulges all the zany, bizarre, funny, and captivating tales of what went on when the band wasn't busy crafting chart-topping albums.
Much has been written about him, but until now we've only had his songs as clues to his experience from the inside. In Scar Tissue, Kiedis proves himself to be as compelling a memoirist as he is a lyricist, giving us a searingly honest account of the life from which his music has evolved. In , at the age of 20, Duff McKagan left his native Seattle - partly to pursue music, but mainly to get away from a host of heroin overdoses then-decimating his closest group of friends in the local punk scene. In LA only a few weeks and still living in his car, he answered a want ad for a bass player placed by someone who identified himself only as "Slash.
Guns N' Roses went on to sell more than million albums worldwide.
Throughout his career, Sebastian Bach has sold over 20 million records both as the lead singer of Skid Row and as a solo artist. Even though I really liked the book, giving it a four star rating may have been a bit of a stretch. This book had me laughing from page one.
In their own words, unfiltered and uncensored, a dazzling galaxy of trail-blazing talents recalled three turbulent decades of on-camera antics and off-camera escapades. Pioneers of Britain's nascent rock and metal scene back in the late s, Iron Maiden smashed its way to the top, thanks in no small part to the high-octane performances, operatic singing style, and stage presence of its second but twice-longest-serving lead singer, Bruce Dickinson. As Iron Maiden's front man - first from to and then from to the present - Dickinson has been, and remains, a man of legend.
Fame can be addictive. Whether it was stapling his nutsack to his leg, diving into a pool full of elephant crap, or routinely risking death invading the private lives of sharks, lions, tigers, and bears, almost nothing was out of bounds.
And as the stunts got crazier, his life kept pace. No one other than Warren Zanes, rocker and writer and friend, could author a book about Tom Petty that is as honest and evocative of Petty's music and the remarkable rock and roll history he and his band helped to write.
Born in Gainesville, Florida, with more than a little hillbilly in his blood, Tom Petty was a Southern shit kicker, a kid without a whole lot of promise. Rock and roll made it otherwise. Duff McKagan is one of the most respected survivors in hard rock. In How to Be a Man , he shares the wisdom he gained on the path to superstardom - from his time with Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver to getting sober after a life of hard living to achieving his personal American dream of marrying a supermodel, raising a family, and experiencing what it's like to be winked at by Prince.
Doug Stanhope has been drunkenly stumbling down the back roads and dark alleys of stand-up comedy for over a quarter of a century, roads laden with dank bars, prostitutes, cheap drugs, farm animals, evil dwarfs, public nudity, menacing third-world police, psychotic breaks, sex offenders, and some understandable suicides. You know, just for levity.
Trust Me, I'm Dr. Ozzy: Advice from Rock's Ultimate Survivor is a book by Ozzy Osbourne, vocalist of Black Sabbath and solo singer. It is the sequel to his Trust Me, I'm Dr. Ozzy: Advice from Rock's Ultimate Survivor [Ozzy Osbourne, Chris Ayres] on bahana-line.com *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Let's face it.
While other comedians were seeking fame, Stanhope was seeking immediate gratification, dark spectacle, or sometimes just his pants. The Last Highway is the original, forensic, unflinching and masterful biography Bon Scott has so richly deserved and music fans around the world have been waiting for. Wondering if science could explain how he survived his year avalanche of drugs and alcohol, Ozzy Osbourne became one of a handful of people in the world to have his entire DNA mapped in Ozzy is a genetic anomaly.
The procedure was in part sponsored by The Sunday Times of London , which had already caused an international furor by appointing Ozzy Osbourne its star health-advice columnist. The newspaper argued that Ozzy's multiple near-death experiences, year history of drug abuse, and extreme hypochondria qualified him more than any other for the job. The column was an overnight hit, being quickly picked up by Rolling Stone to give it a global audience of millions.
In Trust Me, I'm Dr. Ozzy , Ozzy answers reader's questions with his outrageous wit and surprising wisdom, digging deep into his past to tell the memoir-style survival stories never published before - and to offer guidance that no sane human being should follow.
Part humor, part memoir, and part bad advice, Trust Me, I'm Dr. Ozzy includes some of the best material from his published columns and answers to celebrities' medical questions. This book truly made me smile! My heart was very happy! Go on read it! Very good audiobook, I would like to see another ozzy audiobook and anything related to ozzy osbourne. Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not? It wasn't unlistenable or complete waste of time, just not a great use of time. The narrator sounded very much like Ozzy, and it wasn't an unpleasant narrative.
The trouble was that it came across as Dear Abby style question after mind numbingly stupid question by witless Ozzy fans, and Ozzy responding with obviously predictable answers. The answers were given in Ozzy's own style, though definitely not the type of answers any sane person couldn't give. Really anybody could have written a book like this given the same list of mail in questions. I am Ozzy was a far better read, in fact one of the best and funniest autobiographies I've read.
It was written in the same style as this with much more wit, better stories, and more relevance to Ozzy's personal life including his time with Sabbath, his solo career, as well as everything leading up to and between. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
A surprisingly good listen, enjoyed it very much. This could also be listed in the Comedy section. Even if your not an Oz fan, its hard not to like. If you could sum up Trust Me, I'm Dr. Ozzy in three words, what would they be? Great story learned a lot! What other book might you compare Trust Me, I'm Dr.
Ozzy to and why? So who better to offer the public medical advice and support? Since then he has answered questions ranging from dog depression to snoring to third nipples… and has also tackled more serious questions with his trademark humour and hard-won wisdom. The column has become such a phenomenon that Dr Ozzy has now decided to gather together all his advice into one handy guide.
And enjoy a very good laugh along the way.
If you are after something lightweight, and looking for a laugh, then this will deliver. I chuckled to myself many times over when listening to this.
Hearing all about Ozzy now, ie he's a vegetarian who is open to Plastic Surgery, just cracked me up. I'm a Black Sabbath fan, so just had to listen to it. Certainly learned about a few crazy antics from this one. Enjoyable, in a casual kind of way. This is a collection of newspaper columns in which Ozzy answered questions about health. Each one is quite short 1 to 2 minutes , which I found a bit jarring - you are constantly changing subjects. A good book, but probably more enjoyable in its written form.
There are a host of funny anecdotes throughout the book and Frank Skinner does an excellent job at narrating. Some of the advice even makes sense!
