Please try again later. Some clarity on who, what, and why we are! If you are looking for some clear thinking on what is transpiring in our time, and if you need to be realigned to who and what America is, then this is the book. Bennett proves himself to be a great patriot and statesman as he takes you to a high place above all the rancor and confusion, to a place where you can see and think clearly.
Buy this book and rediscover who we are and why we must defend who we are. I want to read and reread them again and again in an effort to fight off the voices of those who seek to destroy our patriotism. This book will always hold a special place in my library.
Bennett proves himself to be a truly great American in our time. For too long we have allowed the PC view of the world to control our thoughts, making some of the most absurd positions the accepted "truth". William Bennett here lays it all out in a succinct and clear fashion, helping bring us back to reality, and showing us why we must maintain and promote moral clarity in the face of sworn enemies.
We cannot assume that all nations and peoples will act benevolently towards us when we do so towards them; that is the utopian wishful thinking of the 60's which history clearly debunks.
We also cannot lose sight of the fact that Islam is not just a religion but also a political system whose major tenet is that of converting the world to its religion, and submitting it to its political control. That, above all else, has been behind Muslim agression for years, and the "excuse of the week" Israel, our presence in the Gulf, etc. Read this book and bring yourself back to reality. Despite such a major loss of life on its own soil, some were railing against U. Bennett challenges the pacifists, unable to distinguish wars of agression and wars of defense, the ridiculous claims that the War on Terrorism is somehow a "racist," and the need for educators and society as a whole to embrace patriotism as a virtue, not something of which to be ashamed.
Bennett may have his critics, and "Why We Fight" is not without its faults, but it is refreshing to hear a voice discussing morals and righteous anger in the midst of the s soft relativism that still pollutes the air. Excellent with a lot of historical facts that people have forgotten.
Index is excellent for you to find the stuff you want to get to real fast. My book is highlighted. Helps you to understand America and us.

This book is about so much more that a war in Iraq or Afghanistan. It addresses the heart of the breakdown of order in America and around the world. It is a "must read". This short book is not one of Mr. It is a somewhat hastily prepared propaganda effort to justify the current war on terrorism. Christians are being enlisted in the "just war" by taking scripture out of context and to stoke hate against the radical Muslim world.
Furthermore the "Judeo-Christian tradition," a term which even observant Jews reject, is invoked to obtain unlimited support for the Likud government in what is, if we are honest with each other, a colonial war. Bennett assures us "with an understanding, almost relgious in nature, that to our two nations [U. This can only increase the hatred of the Arab world against us and bring more rather than less terrorism to our soil. Instead of waging a "just war" Jesus would have wanted us to work towards a "just peace. Bennett presents a well-crafted commentary on the validation for action.
Bennett's presentation was skillfully prepared and supported by facts and examples.
Its logic was flawless. The conclusion of this composition is that America was not only justified in taking military action, but all Americans were obligated to fight back. No honest person can argue that we have not been at war for decades, with a third world menagerie that has all too often demonstrated their hatred for the United States i.
To say otherwise is to completely ignore the facts, and facts are usually ignored by those who would claim that Americans are to blame for the bombing these are the same people that claim Americans need to apologize for this country's prosperity. America can only be blamed for waiting so long to forcefully respond.
Bennett's presentation could have been his turn in a moderated debate on the necessity for long overdue American force. As such, he would have shut out his opposition, provided points were awarded for logic and not emotion. That Bennett could state his case, without resorting to heartrending outcries, should be an example for those that disagree with his position. Perhaps they, too, should examine the facts, and not blindly fuse themselves to a faulted political agenda. Those who have actually read the "whole book," and still disagree with the need for a military response fit one of several casts: Not since the shocking attack on Pearl Harbor has the nation pulled together with such unity and purpose, resolving to endure whatever hardships may be necessary to win the war on terror.
We were united in the defense of and belief in our country. It truly brought out the best in our national character.
But a small group of influential public intellectuals, writers, members of the media, and academics were not part of this unified response. They still preached the same self-doubt about America and her traditions that have steadily undermined our national confidence and resolve in recent decades.
Within days of the attacks this debilitating mindset was in evidence, as influential figures rushed to point the finger at America and decry what they were sure would be our murderous and indiscriminate reaction. While most Americans remain confident of the justice and appropriateness of our military response in Afghanistan, these vocal critics have caused some to wonder whether we brought the attacks on ourselves because of our foreign policy, our popular culture, or our support for Israel.
The morning of September 12 dawned with a stunning moral clarity that has guided the actions of many Americans, both her leaders and her citizens.
Bennett seeks to preserve that clarity in order to ensure that our national resolve does not falter in this difficult and necessary war. Author , Title , or Date. Educating Teachers to Teach about America.
