The premise was good, and the book had it's amusing moments, but the two major characters were very unlikable through most of the book and many parts were unbelievable. The book did have it's humorous moments, but the author seemed to strain to create those segments. The male lead, Ace, was raised by seemingly intelligent parents, yet he seems rather illiterate. Every time Lynnie the female lead uses a word that's over a few letters long, Ace is overwhelmed.
He's spoiled and rude, he drinks, he visits [prostitutes], it's alluded to by mention of a marked deck that he cheats at cards. Lynnie was working for women's rights, and most of the time wanted no help from Ace.

As far as I remember it's a part of a series, it's a historical western romance set in Texas. The hero is named Ryder and his older brother also has a book in the series, don't remeber his name is a Texas Ranger. Ryder is a little wild, possibly has ADD they don't actually call it that he often likes to hang upside down, he gambles and drinks.
He meets the heroine in jail.
SHe is bringing him food and comes across Ryder. He sees her as an angel. She isn't the most beautiful of women, a little bit plain but he loves her from the first. She is working to rebuild the town church, there was a bit of trouble when she wants to appoint a black man as the pastor. Another man the antagonist if you will also wants to marry her.
He's a bit of a ponce, some how ends up getting shot in the ass. It also turns out he's already married to a rich Lady, she turns up to ccollect him. Does this sound familiar?
