This will help you realise you can do things on your own. If you did not instigate the divorce, this might feel particularly hard, but it is all the more important.
If you have to do this early on, Blair suggests thinking about what posessions you valued before you got married. When she finally got it she realised she had only wanted it because it had been her husband's favourite, and she didn't even like it. Yet Reibstein says that, if at all possible, it is best to defer big decisions. Try to postpone it, or get outside help. And if your spouse is behaving unreasonably try not to react. Psychologist Philippa Perry also suggests using your divorce as a learning experience: This is not about beating yourself up, it is about becoming more aware of how you contribute to how you feel.
Loneliness is something many people fear, notes Perry, but that shouldn't be a reason to feel you have made the wrong decision. The worse thing about it is that it can cause you to jump from the frying pan into the fire. Being alone can be a chance to learn new skills. One patient said to me recently, 'For the first time I choose to be by myself because I have realised that is better than being in a bad relationship.
I never realised that before. And finally, remember things will get better. Blair says, "Look further ahead than the next six months — with my patients I add 15 or 20 years to their age and ask, 'When you are 50 what do you want? Luckily she gets a witty friend, and yes I can't remember her name Anyway I did like her even if I forgot her name. We get to meet other fun characters, like Lockie, the guys who holds this course so she can take her bronze medallion, and be able to save people on the beach.
Of course I know the minute he walks in that he might be someone that she could fall for.
When she gets over her idiot husband that is. But there is also Sebastian, 25, snobbish English, and who promises great sex. To the bitch then, Renee, her former best friend who slept with her husband and then lured him away, that woman makes me grind me teeth.
No one can like her or feel for her. Every time she shows up I feel sorry for Lucy, and Renee always puts her down and says the most awful things. Well I cared since Lucy loves him and I have no idea who she will choose in the end. The negative things about this book was also a positive thing. Every time people met, who disliked each other somewhat, or a lot, they gave these witty remarks. And honestly, yes they were fun but come on, put on the spot, with your husbands mistress, will you be able to say all those clever things? Everyone did it, and that part I didn't like, it didn't feel real.
Still I also loved this part since they so hit the spot every time.
But this was a book that made me laugh out loud and giggle. It made me feel for Lucy, and it was a fun ride while it lasted. The reason why i enjoy chick-lit so much, easy to read, and makes me laugh. Dec 23, Tricia Riley rated it liked it Shelves: I read this book quite quickly. It was a fast, easy read. Quite predictable although there were a few surprises towards the end.
Basically Lucy discovers that her husband is having an affair with her best friend. She then falls into depression and is rescued by her neighbour who takes Lucy under her wing. This leads to Lucy taking up surf lifesaving which is where she meets Lockie, and Sebastian insert the usual love triangle storyline here.
It only gets three stars because it is the usual chick I read this book quite quickly. It only gets three stars because it is the usual chick lit and was not fantastic. I also found Lucy a bit whiny and got on my nerves in some places. I just wanted to slap her and tell her to pull herself together. Her kids were also very annoying, particularly the older one.
It is an ok book that is funny in bits. I would recommend it for someone after a quick easy read that you don't have to think too hard about.
You really are my husband again, and I have news for thee, there bloody will be no more marriages - or divorces either. The small details of your lives are what really matter in a relationship. I thought it would be a funny story, and in some parts it was, but the whinging got on my nerves as well as the crazy things that Lucy did after her lousy husband left her for her supposed best friend, after they migrated to Australia. If anybody hurts you, just send me a line saying something like "Need" or "Necessary" or just the one magic word "Elizabeth", and I will be there somewhat faster than sound. She advises creating distance as a first step. In the letter, Burton said he was happiest when he was with her and that he wanted to 'come home'.

That was my response after reading To Love, Honour and Betray in just a few hours - I just could not put it down. It is a devastating story of Lucy who uproots her two daughters and herself to follow her husband as he pursues a new job in Australia. One month after relocating, he moves out of their home and leaves her to pick up the pieces as her house of cards collapses around her. Tally, her When you're exposed to this much heartache I suppose there is nothing for it but to make light of it.
Tally, her year-old daughter hates her and says it's her fault Jasper has left them. Ruby, her younger daughter, starts wetting her bed. With no friends or family to help her through this traumatic time, Lucy is left to her own devices and it looks as if she is not going to survive - except her sense of humour and lightness of spirit, combined with her fierce love for her children, propel her into surviving to tell the tale. Descending into alcoholism, insurmountable debt and utter despair, Lucy befriends Susie - an Aussie with attitude.
She's been dumped by her husband who has decided he is gay and she also has two kids to take care of. Slowly she begins to pick up the pieces and learns to survive without Jasper. But she still hopes that one day he will see the light and come back to his family. She is prepared to forgive him as long as he takes them back. It takes an even deeper betrayal to finally get her to understand that there is no going back and that there is a better life … and love … after Jasper.
It's a witty story, filled with the most amusing metaphors that will have you crying from laughing. But it is also heart-breaking and stark. This is a survival guide for anyone who realises that "the perfect marriage is like an orgasm - many of them faked". Feb 09, Nicki rated it it was ok. Didn't really like this. It was described elsewhere as a "kind of" follow up to Puberty Blues".
Puberty Blues was a great book, written by Kathy and another author while they were in their teens, it was authentic and gritty and rang true. It's the story of an English woman who's husband leaves Didn't really like this. It's the story of an English woman who's husband leaves her for her best friend. Before she realises what is going on, she has followed him over to Australia with their two daughters.
Cue pages of biting insults in every conversation. I think the author was so busy being "funny" that she forgot to create characters that actually rang true. Who the hell talks like that? The story itself may have been okay if it wasn't aiming at being hilarious and set in a less cringeable setting.
The twist at the end with Sebastian was pretty good.
I did finish this, but it was a battle and I don't think I'll be in a hurry to read more of Kathy's stories. Aug 13, Emma rated it it was amazing. Hilarious - classic one liners. Before I for half way through this book; I decided I hated it. Whenever I read a book from a first person prospective; I always like the person who's point of view it is from but I just couldn't stand this woman,; she was so weak and stupid and the sysnopsis painted the picture of a strong woman, juggling divorce, children, her career and seeking revenge swimmingly.
This was not the case! Also, I have never known an author to plug one of her books in her current one. I was pleased when Lucy grew a pair just a shame it took so long! I also enjoyed the twist at the end in terms of Reene's, Lockie's and Sebastian's back story. It was a good twist and I really like Susie! We all need a friend like her! Dec 05, Nicolette rated it liked it. Lucy and her husband, Jasper, relocate to Australia from England.
I wanted to slap Lucy for pining after her husband when he left her for another woman. Apr 09, Bev Taylor rated it really liked it. I even learnt a few new words that I hadn't heard before - like budgie smuggler What bugged me about this story was that Lucy was a whinging Pom. And brilliant, bilingual daughter Kate, who had graduated Brown University with a degree in international relations, but who decided to go into the family business, after all. And the beguiling, boisterous Wilding brothers, Michael and Christopher, who finally seemed to be finding their way, to Burton's great relief.
While he was reciting to a rapt audience, Elizabeth quietly entered the theatre and slipped on to the stage, standing behind him. The audience was thrilled at the sight of her and Burton wondered what the excitement was all about. She then whispered to Richard, in perfect Welsh: Elizabeth, now addressing the audience, repeated the words: He whispered to John Hurt, sotto voce so that his new wife wouldn't overhear: Afterwards, Richard took Elizabeth to dinner at the Garrick Club. The liveried waiters served Jack Daniel's whiskey on the rocks to Elizabeth and poured two double vodkas for Richard.
He then drove her home - and this time he stayed the night. Within weeks, Elizabeth had talked Richard into working with her in a stage production of Noel Coward's Private Lives. The rehearsals started well, but in his diary Richard recorded his frustrations. This is going to be a long seven months. When the play opened, the reviews were the worst either of them had ever received. One night, they both drank heavily and the following day Elizabeth failed to show up. Richard was forced to appear on stage with an understudy and, furious, he abandoned Elizabeth for his year-old Australian assistant Sally Hay.
Richard and Sally were married in July A year later, they were at Richard's home in Celigny, Switzerland, when the actor John Hurt, who was working in Geneva, came for dinner and to stay in their guest cottage. Hurt remembers thinking that Richard was still in the grip of an obsession with Elizabeth and that it would never be over. During their conversation, Burton whispered to his friend, sotto voce so that Sally wouldn't overhear: Although Richard had been sober for a long time, he and Hurt later went out drinking.
The following morning, August 4, , Sally drove Hurt back to Geneva. When she returned, Richard was complaining of an excruciating headache. He took some aspirin and went to bed around 10pm. When he woke in the morning, Sally found him breathing with difficulty. She had him rushed to hospital, where doctors worked furiously to try to save him, but he died on the operating table. At the age of 58, he had suffered a massive cerebral haemorrhage.
Elizabeth did not attend Richard's funeral - Sally refused to invite her, for fear that her presence would turn the event into a media circus. But a few days after his death, a letter arrived at Elizabeth's Bel Air home. Richard had written it in his study at Celigny, surrounded by his beloved books. It was postmarked August 2. Elizabeth opened it with a trembling hand and wept as she read his familiar handwriting.
In the letter, Burton said he was happiest when he was with her and that he wanted to 'come home'. He wrote that no one else could know what their lives had been together and asked if it was possible there could be another chance for them. It was his final love letter to her - and as she absorbed his words, she could hear his voice loud and clear.
