Please try again later. I was impressed with this book right off the bat because, simply put, I expected it to be depressing and it wasn't. I typically shy away from reading memoirs because I feel overwhelmed when reading people's heart-renching stories. In fact, until I read "Life Lived in Reverse" I pretty much chalked up the memoir genre as a venue for people to dump their pain out onto paper.

Of course writing through ones past experiences can be cathartic, but there is only so much of it I can handle. She was always able to work her way through the obstacles, no matter their magnitude. Even now, you can tell that this is a cheerful lady, who focuses on the wonderful blessings she's accrued in her life, and proudly displays pictures of her large family in this memoir.

I know very little about what it means to be Italian-American, or what it means to be in a military family. Reading Lucille's stories and interpretations of her experience-- especially her recipe for a military wife-- opened my eyes to entirely different facets of what it means to be American, a woman, and human. I walked away from reading this story completely inspired to make the most of what life throws in my path, as I saw a clear example here of a woman who consistently remaines in touch with her inner strength and joy throughout the winding turns in her life.

Even though the book is written by someone of an older generation I found there was so much in it from which I could learn like stories about the Vietnam war and the fact that those women had no harassment laws on the book to help them and for these and other reasons I found the book fun to read and informative as well.
