There are many challenges and opportunities that come our way in life.
But when we join together with one another we can always do more than we could ever have done on our own. We become strength and inspiration for and with one another.
First of all we see that after hearing of the death of John the Baptist at the hands of King Herod He goes off to a deserted place to pray. The crowds find Him. Seeing them and their confidence in His power to heal the sick, He responds with compassion and curing.
Jesus had just spent time in prayer. We see what He sees and seek to respond as He responds to us in Jesus.
In a prayer we say daily, the Our Father, the prayer Jesus Himself gave to His disciples when they asked Him how to pray, we say: The first reaction of the disciples is to be overwhelmed by the size of the crowd and their lack of food: Their solution is to put the burden on the crowd to go and fend for themselves. But Jesus changes all that. Miraculously He multiplies the five loaves and two fish to the point where more than 5, people are fed and twelve baskets of food are left over. Working with Jesus they accomplished what at first seemed impossible.
When we join with each other, we do accomplish far more than we ever could on our own.
And when we join together in the name of Jesus and as the Church, we become the most powerful force for goodness the world has ever known. Resources are those things that help us cope with stress when it hits. They include family, friends, spouse and community, finances, status, power, long suffering, patience, etc. When our resources are tapped out, we feel the full effects of stress. This is often when people develop symptoms of anxiety, depression, and even suicide.
But, we have a resource that never runs out. We have direct and personal access to the One who created our bodies and understands how we react to overwhelming stress. Jesus tells us to cast our burdens on Him. He assures us that His presence never leaves and that He is with us in times of trials and tests.
It is through an intimacy with Christ that we are able to handle the avalanche of stress that feels like it could overwhelm us. And this resource, God's Spirit in us, is available to us at all times. It is powerful and brings peace to the most troubled soul.
If you feel alone and overwhelmed, remember you have a champion in Heaven who sits at the right hand of the Father and intercedes for you. All our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry everything; to God in prayer.
It is a grand thing and a source of tremendous strength to come to the same position as that of Christ as Man, where we know that boundless heavenly resources. We speak of a calm and heavenly frame and there may be something of this kind as a fruit of it By T. Austin-Sparks from: Boundless Heavenly Resources.
Oh, what a peace we often forfeit, Oh what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer. You have a never-ending resource — a friend in Jesus who will never feel taxed out by your stress.
Stress is not only considered a work hazard, but it is linked to the six leading causes of death: My home is in Heaven. There is no beginning or end with God. So why do you think and act like your problems are so heavy, so oppressive, and so powerful that there is no solution. When Jesus was upon the earth, He taught His disciples how to pray. We may find ourselves in such deep holes that we lose hope. In a prayer we say daily, the Our Father, the prayer Jesus Himself gave to His disciples when they asked Him how to pray, we say:
Instead, He invites you to let Him carry it. Use your resource and let His peace fill your heart.
