Understand the operating principle of the firearm and become familiar with its handling characteristics before attempting to use it. Be certain you are using the correct ammunition. Use only high quality military or commercial ammunition. Do not use reloaded or handloaded cartridges. Keep the firearm unloaded when it is not in use. Store ammunition separately from the gun. Do not transport a loaded weapon. After 30 seconds, remove the magazine, open the action, and retrieve the cartridge.

Load two rounds of ammo into the magazine. While in a stable firing position, point the muzzle downward. Pull the charging handle or slide back, and let it fly forward to chamber the first round.

If your weapon fires, stop firing and unload weapon. If both rounds fire with one pull of the trigger, stop firing. Take the weapon to a gunsmith or place of purchase. Do not allow rifle to be heated or sunburnt.

Frequently lubricate your weapon. Frequently clean your weapon. Particularly the gas system and bore. Always cover with a light coat of gun oil after cleaning. When storing, always keep the hammer in its released position. Load with either single rounds or stripper clips see Figure 4 Again, remain conscious of muzzle position.

Saturate the bore brush with gun solvent and push through the length of the barrel see Figure If using corrosive primer, this step is very important to remove the corrosive residue from the barrel of your rifle. Make at least 10 passes through the barrel from the muzzle end.

The cap of the accessory tube can be used to protect the crown of the muzzle from damage during cleaning. Please accept my apology if I have offended by making my appeal on this forum. I do strongly believe in the Second Amendment. I am 50 years old and have owned and used guns of all types all my life. But, I am a lawyer and I fear there are others that feel like you do. I fail to understand why all products of this great nation are required to be made safe except firearms. There is nothing about my practice or this suit that would erode the right to bear arms.

I would like to see firearms sold that are safe and do not wish to put anyone out of business. I believe this instruction to drop the clip prior to working the action in as SKS will save lives. I think that is a good thing, even for those of us that use firearms. It is a natural first reaction for many to work the action when a firearm fails to fire. I did not appreciate the fact that this common act could kill you if you are using an SKS. I do not agree with your position, but I respect it.

If there are those that think there should be no required safety with respect to firearms, then I understand why you would not assist me in finding a proper warning to prevent this for occurring to others. If you agree that we as firearem users are responsible and reasonable people that deserve the right to purchase safe firearms that are not unreasonably dangerous, then help me find a way to get this warning stated in a way to make the SKS safe for the Chinese to import, and we can live to carry on the tradition.

Again, I am sorry if I have offended, but I am passionate about this. Travis, there is an obvious amount of distortion and misrepresentation in your self serving post. You refer to unsafe firearms. If this was a known defect, you can bet that experienced SKS owners would be reporting it and discussing it on many SKS sites.

Such reports do not exist. Because this is NOT a defect in this weapon. Of course, there is also no money to be made with that approach. How do you know that the accident happened the way you describe? You say that the man died. Were you there to witness what happened? Obviously not, because you would then be a witness and not the lawyer.

What kind of effect do you think that will have on the firearms trade? Are we supposed to believe that it will entice MORE companies to deal in firearms, knowing that there are people like you waiting behind every bush to attack them when they have done nothing wrong? IF that is what really happened then there would have been a few malfunctions that occured at the same time. Number 1 being the mis-fire. Number 2 the mis-fired round should have ejected when the action was pulled to the rear, That failure could have been caused by any number of things mostly maint. Although I am ex Canadian military and have used a lot of different small arms,the opportunity to get an SKS Type 56 came along but not with a manual. Your site saved me some time. We are only allowed 5 rounds so they would not be legal or available in Canada….

Ok, Lets go off the Defense for a Second. I think this Man is a little upset that a person has died and He has decided to try to get more Information shipped with the weapon you are going to purchase. I for one do not think this is a bad idea. I served in the Military for twelve years and stated above in these post I read where someone said knowledge is power. I dont think I would have wanted to go into the places I did with out proper training on the weapons I used.

Weather it was hands on or by a manual. I say The manufactures give all the information they can about the Weapon you are going to purchase. I dont know maybe I am off base here. But, Bottom line is these Manufactures need to cover there butt to the Extreme. There are certain people out there that would love to burn every weapon factory to the ground. There are certain people out there that would Love to take All weapons away from anyone that was not Military or law Enforcemant.

With respect to what I am able to read… it seems that some input was not written out, leaving holes in the conversations between and among commenters. That being said, I have these comments and answers that I hope will be helpful: In my opinion the launcher probably works like the M-1 Garand.

The SKS butt is placed on the ground with the barrel pointed high up and towards the target. The launcher sight is raised. The stripe s will correspond to distances when the barrel is raised or lowered so that they line up with the steps of the ladder styled sight. The V-notch is lined up with both the grenade and target, and the blank round is fired launching the grenade skyward, arcing towards the target.

Flip the safety to the "ON" position. Pull charging handle on bolt carrier back until the action locks open. Load with either single rounds or stripper clips. Again remain conscious of muzzle position.

When the gun is fired, gas pressure is extracted from the spent cartridges, and they are ejected. When finished firing, lock back the bolt and always engage the safety before unloading unused shells. If bolt was locked back, rifle should be unloaded.

Visually inspect the magazine and chamber to confirm that gun is empty. If unsure whether empty, immediately place the safety in the "ON" position. Release the magazine cover by pulling back the magazine cover latch. Any unexpended rounds will now be freed from the magazine. Now, lock the magazine cover back in place. Next, pull back the charging handle to the rear and extract and eject the live round in the chamber. The bolt stop will automatically lock the bolt carrier back. Again visually inspect the weapon. Take out all the accessories. With a finger, press in on the cover of the accessory chamber on the butt plate and take the case for accessories out of the stock.

To remove the cleaning rod: Swing the bayonet outward from the muzzle of the rifle and remove the cleaning rod. Then, fold the bayonet back down to a "march position". To remove receiver cover and recoil spring assembly: Hold the small of the stock with your left hand, pressing with your thumb on the rear of the receiver cover figure8 ; Rotate with the right hand the receiver cover retaining pin arm upward to its vertical position and pull the pin out to the right as far as possible. To remove the bolt: Pull the bolt back as far as it will go, and remove entire assembly.

Use a pin punch to pry the lever located on the right of rear sight base into the position where the camming surface located at the front is completely vertical. Further movement will allow operating rod and spring to escape. The seven steps listed are sufficient to field-strip the rifle for cleaning and regular maintenance.
