There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later. Our fellowship class at church is doing a group read, study, and share on this book that was recommended by our pastor. It is written well and very easy to read. That is not to say the content is trivial rather it is thought provoking. Our class discussions focused on the weekly chapters read has been interesting, lively, enlightening, and very educational. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. This is what I would call a "twist" on studying traditional evangelism as it gives examples of how Jesus taught us to witness to people or to share the Good News.

The many scripture verses used in the book are usually taught to us as theological lessons, but here, Jerram Barrs uses them in a wonderfully refreshing way. Clearly the way we have been evangelizing has not been the way of Christ. Not necessarily wrong, just not the way that is most effective, or the best way to reach those who are without a redeemer.

Author does not exclude repentance or preaching the law first before gospel page 90 page 65 like a previous reviewer wrote. I found this book helpful and encouraging. Jesus is the best teacher when it comes to evangelism and this book takes a close look at Christ's evangelistic encounters. A good read with interesting exegesis and examples from the life of our Lord and Savior. Worth your time and consideration. Jerram Barrs is deeply aware of God's great for the unbeliever, and shares in that heat with our Heavenly Father.

In this book, he gives us windows into the myriad approaches of the greatest evangelist ever to live, Jesus Christ. Barrs' careful and heart felt exposition of these passages, we begin to see exactly how Jesus embarked on his mission, and we see what a delight it is for us to be called to serve by his side. Very easy read while still being incredibly Very easy read while still being incredibly thorough.

I found it best to read a chapter and then think about it for a week. A great book, great read. Imitating Jesus is what the redeemed should be doing and therefore the Kingdom of God should be in full display. But because we have missed the mark of imitating Jesus we hurt instead of healing. Do we as Christians today categorize or avoid people according to race, class, religion, social standing, etc.? Setting Aside Custom and Christian Rules: What Christian rules about living a separated and godly life have we devised to keep ourselves at a distance from non-Christians? Jesus shows us how to maintain purity while also practicing love. Jesus asked the Samaritan woman for a favor. We must acknowledge our need for the gifts, wisdom, or advice an unbeliever may give us, because it is encouraging and ennobling to those who may expect only scorn or condescension from Christians.

We must not express personal rejection or scorn when dealing with non-believers. We must remember that we are all sinners and deserve to be outcasts, but Jesus meets each of us and leads us through our confusion to the knowledge of the truth, just as he brings this Samaritan woman to himself.

Just as he commissioned the Samaritan woman, Jesus also calls us to ministry, to take the message about him into our communities and out into the world. Your email address will not be published.
