As usual in this series the story is subtle and builds slowly. The main character, Dylan Scott, is not your perfect protagonist. The series is maturing nicely! Dylan, still reeling from the death of his wife, is letting the investigation agency slide and drinking way too much. Susan rated it really liked it Apr 06, Joy Knights rated it it was amazing Jan 05, Add to this the whim upon which the "hero" decides to travel to the far reaches of the UK on the merest hint of a clue, overall I was left rather frustrated.

I am not familiar with the area, but the descriptions were very good. I didn't want to quit reading until I found out what had happened.
The ending was a bit surprising. I had guessed part of it, but ultimately I was totally surprised. In regard to the editing, there were quite a few misplaced commas.

I just love this series. I have read book one, and having loved it so much, bought book two. The main character, Dylan Scott, is not your perfect protagonist.

In this novel, he takes the case of a missing woman, Sam, who has been gone ten months. No one wants to help him get answers. In fact, at the beginning of the book, he gets beat up and told to stay away.

As usual in this series the story is subtle and builds slowly. Dylan Scott matures as a character and Lancashire provides a backdrop full of nuances. The series is maturing nicely! This, the second in the series, is just as interesting, suspenseful, and entertaining as Wells other works.
It's well written and well worth your time.

I'm looking forward to a long relationship with Dylan Scott. As the second in the "Dead" series, I found the same territory homey. Dylan did flit into Scotland for a bit but after finding what he was after he was back to familiar territory. Dylan Scott is easily becoming one of my favorite detectives.
He's humble and real. The other characters involved are well fleshed out and seem like real people too.
