Modern Romance October Books The Regency Season Collection: A Regency Captain's Prize: Oct 03, Joy rated it really liked it. I devoured this on Saturday instead of grading a stack of Composition essays, and I don't feel that guilty. I am interested in the Napoleonic Wars as a setting and it was a sweet, unexpected romance.

The ending is a bit too tidy though. Nov 06, Erica Anderson rated it liked it Shelves: There was a lot to like about this book. First, it's set on the Peninsula--not a single London ballroom! That alone makes it unusual, which is part of the reason that I bought it.

I was thinking Carla Kelly or Susanna Fraser. The heroine has grown up following her father from post to post, but when he is killed in action, she's captured by the hero, who is quelle horreur! The conflict isn't much of a conflict since even dense readers such as yours truly figured out who the bad guy was early on. Much of the action involves the heroine trying to convince the hero that her father didn't kill his.

The reader knows that he didn't, and the author missed a great opportunity here to increase the tension by making the heroine question herself and her beliefs.

After reading this book, McPhee clearly proves that it is possible. Well written, details of war, bandits, and marauders, with undercurrents of attraction, and the ultimate self preservation. Gostei muito deste livro.

The setting is Central Portugal in Therefore, general Captain Pierre Dammartin is a man of honor, but his captive, Josephine Mallington, is the daughter of his sworn enemy…and his temptation. Therefore, general knowledge of the fighting between the French and the English is necessary to understand the animosity between the two main characters. In reality, it is hard to hold much sympathy for Capt.

Pierre Dammartin throughout much of this book. This is a rerelease of a McPhee book. Jan 03, Amanda rated it liked it Shelves: This was an entertaining read. For once, a historical romance novel isn't set in London with the ton, nor is it set on some English Countryside with a looming estate I enjoyed the distance from all of that. The leading lady was one I could connect too, although at times I found her annoying. The leading man was horribly weighed down with conflicting feelings, which the reader heard a lot of The climax of the story was so drawn out that it was literally in the last chapter of the book If I give it too much thought, I'll end up lowering my rating to the book, so I'll leave it and won't look back.

Mar 06, Kbee rated it liked it Shelves: Starts with a verry good story Did like it a lot. But the villain was easy to figure out once I knew what the ''plot'' was. One other thing, these Harlequin books have rushed endings. Jan 25, Andrea Jackson rated it liked it Shelves: Nothing to complain about really. The characters and their actions seemed unrealistic at times and stereotypical plot turns. But It was okay. Dec 09, Mageela rated it really liked it.
