McBrayer's writing and her voice. I'm surprised that she has so few reviews because I have read so many authors that cannot touch her actual skill with words with 's of reviews that would have failed a basic college creative writing course. Because this book has so few reviews I would not have taken the risk on the book if it hadn't been a recommendation from a friend whose taste I trust. I am so glad I did discover Ms.
McBraye because I expect to be reading other books by her soon. So that right there is my qualification for a three star review. What didn't I like?
Vampire Academy: Frostbite (book 2) | Richelle Mead | ISBN: This year's trip away from the academy to the wintery peaks of Idaho has suddenly become mandatory. . 4,2 von 5 Sternen . Those two kinds are co-existing and depending on the other, never purposefully However the series has its quiet moments, too. Book 1 of 8 in Vampires of San Francisco Series (8 Book Series) .. In meeting her he finds a novelty in the world that was boring him for his eternal existence because through Lilith he realizes not all vampires are bad. Ideally, lily and co. Cool read! Suckers Go To Hell (Vampires of San Francisco series Book 4).
Well, I despise love triangle plots. And this story has a very prominent one and it means that I am not sure I will continue this particular series, though I will try the author's other series. As others have noted the biggest flaw with this story line is that Lilith comes across as shallow, vapid tramp with a wet noodle in place of a spine as a result of her indecisiveness. And while I can see that the author was trying to make the 'mystery' of Lilith's choice suspenseful she betrayed her hand by only writing from the POV of ONE of those suitors, not both.
So the reader knows who the choice will be by virtue of that alone. McBraye needed to either cut bait and have Lilith make a firm decision early on, or she needed to rewrite the Aiden POV scenes. It didn't work as written. The best characters in the book are Ganja Girl and Aiden.
The rest are card board cut outs with the depth of puddles. I actually found myself hoping Lilith would NOT chose Aiden and that he would be free to fall for the much more interesting character of Ganja Girl. As for the plot? Well, the plot of the book made no sense. There are mortal witches who are doing bad things. And yet a bunch of vampires and a very powerful djinn sit on their hands for most of the books, allowing others to die and horrible things to happen because they don't go an stop them for goodness knows what reason no reasonable explanation is ever given.
It made no sense. Honestly, the witches were so easily defeated that I was like "that's it? The deep flaws in the plot and the characters are the reason I can't award this book anything higher than 3 stars. But I will be looking out for the author's other books because I think there is definite potential. My recommendation for this author would be to hire a very good substantive editor aand listen to them when they recommend re-writes. It's a cute, funny book. I got a kick out of a vampire who is phobic of germs and has to have wet wipes and hand sanitizer on hand. Then there's the djinn who absolutely hates all vampires and is trying to commit suicide, then meets said phobic vampire who is determined to save him - he falls in love with her and ends up falling in love with her and making friends with her "family.
Now she's trying to choose! Meanwhile there's some evil witches trying the bind the djinn, kill our phobic vampire, and generally causing mayhem.
One person found this helpful. While I enjoyed the variety in the characters, I just wasn't able to finish. Everytime there was a substantial push to the plot, there followed almost a whole chapter of, 'I love Sebastian. I love Aiden' nonsense. Or a HUGE chunk of paranormal male posturing. I just couldn't anymore. It was too wishy washy Bella bull for me. I came across Hell Hounds are for Suckers book 2 of the San Francisco Vampire series, looking through my Amazon recommendations, the story sounded fun and the price was right, Free.
Keep the breakables at a distance for those angry moments and the tissues handy for those others. Well, Well worth it all. She takes you from the highest highs of joy, to the lowest lows… A must read for everyone and anyone who loves a GREAT story, told by an amazing author. I think I had every emotion at one point or another!
The story is really starting to build and come together and the heat is on!! It was nail biting and heart racing but also endearing and beautiful. I got frustrated in good ways and bad I cried, I laughed but most importantly — I fell in love all over again. Thank you so much, Brickley.
I was blown away before I was even finished. The Hero, the Victim and the Antagonist swap roles like a thing of beauty. Just when I have the story lined out Lindsay would throw me a plot twist leaving me happily dumbfounded. And a massive thank you to Anna from Sirens of Fiction too, who also wrote a fantastic review of Blood Roses:.
I could feel the excitement Caleb felt while circling Leila, knowing he was going to capture and conquer his rose. I could feel the sexual tension between them. I could feel the unwanted love build up between the two. Lindsay wrote the story from the point of view of Leila and Caleb, she wrote in a way that made you feel the story. The regulations were put in place 80 years ago when the third species first outed their furtive co-existence. The outing was instigated by the Higher Order vampire royalty.
At the time, the Higher Order claimed they had the ability to heal humans and offered it in return for a place for themselves in Midtown. Amidst the third species being outed, there were whispers of unconfirmed prophecies about the vampires rising up against humans. Remaining cautious, the humans set up locales and, within them, districts to manage and contain the third species.
Over time, a stratified human society also started to form. However, it turned out that the benefits of Higher Order blood, though effective, were only temporary. Unhappy about the symbiotic relationship this necessitated and believing their original claims to be time-stalling trickery, the Global Council mounted pressure on the Higher Order. The Higher Order promised a permanent cure existed — and that they would find it.

Thank you so, so much, Alexandra. And thank you to everyone else who makes this journey not only worthwhile, but also so much fun. Caitlin Parish should have been the last person to fall for a vampire. A member of the Vampire Control Unit, her relationship with master vampire Kane Malloy had explosive consequences.
Kane has made powerful enemies of his own — and is being targeted by the head of the Global Council, Sirius Throme. With the stakes higher than ever before, Kane knows caring for Caitlin makes him vulnerable. Worse, her decision to return to VCU feels like betrayal. With Throme threatening to tear Blackthorn apart, and the prophesied vampire leader finally revealed, Kane and Caitlin must both fight with everything they have to stop an all out war.
Anything I could have possibly imagined, The President's Vampire easily surpassed. At the same time, I also think, for Caleb, the ending to Blood Roses is the first glimmer of hope…. The President's Vampire Nathaniel Cade, 2 really liked it 4. She take a call from a suicidal man, Aidan, going to jump off the golden gate bridge, telling her that he has tried to kill him self before and been unsuccessful and is looking for help in how to do it. Lists with This Book.
Right when she needs him most, Caitlin makes a shocking discovery about Kane. Has he been playing her all along? The choice Caitlin makes will change the game in Blackthorn forever. The characters are enthralling and addicting… Plain fabulousness. You get so wrapped up in the story and characters that you lose track of time… This is one of my favorite series so far this year! Pryor or these novels then you need to read them, experience them firsthand. Because Lindsay Pryor is my kind of fearless author.

The very best of luck to everyone who chooses to enter, and have fun coming up with your answer! Sometimes, conversations with my readers spark a blog post. Its hero, Caleb Dehain, is the most polarizing of all.
Because when it comes to traits that romantic heroes even anti-heroes are supposed to have, Caleb could be deemed as falling short.
Some readers say yes, some say no. A big part of that is because, like all of my heroes, Caleb is damaged. No one can deny that Caleb was hardline with Leila through most of the book. Yes, Blood Roses is a romance because it is, first and foremost, about the developing love and hate relationship between Caleb Dehain and Leila McKay. But to have had Caleb professing his undying love for Leila by the end of the story meant that, in less than three days, Caleb would have had to have:.
If Caleb was capable of all the above after just three days, not only do I think that would have reduced the authenticity of his character, I think it would have diminished just how fragile his heart really is — a heart that, by those very clues, is still very much beating.
