Once you get into the book a bit there are more teaching ideas. I like to high light and write notes in the margin to help me remember my first impression of how I may want to incorporate an idea. My school year is half way done and I will say the two general music classes have been very stimulating and enjoyable. I have taught orchestra for 25 years and this is the first time I am teaching classroom music.
I wanted to make sure I had a good attitude going into it! It was a book that really made you want to teach. I think we have all been in that state of limbo where we think we chose the wrong major, this changes it. Quick, easy read, Great tips.

Great to pop on a reference shelf for fresh ideas when things might be stagnating. I have enjoyed this book. It is a good reference book and I was able to adapt some of the suggestions to my choir. One person found this helpful. I find this book to be full of useful, practical ideas.

This book has many lesson ideas organized by national content standard for music. Experienced music educators will likely find many activities they have already used, along with some new ones. The overall approach is insightful and useful, and may spark other ideas. The appendix, which contains tips for teaching middle school students, and the bibliography are particularly valuable. More development of the insights found in the appendix would be helpful. Fantastic book for teaching middle school general music. Especially useful if you have taught a different grade level prior.
Relies on the national standards for music as the basis for breaking down and presenting ideas. There aren't many resources for middle school general music, and I found this book extremely helpful!
