Enraged, the Kiowa chief, Tangua, decides to kill the remaining Mescalero prisoners, but again Karl intervenes, accepting a fight to the death with the Kiowa champion in order to save the prisoners. Just as Tangua reneges on their bargain, Winnetou and Intshu-tshuna return with reinforcements. The battle between the Mescaleros and Kiowas is ferocious and without mercy.
