Once again I'm unsurprised Mark has managed to get so much time with his characters naked; I will be anxiously awaiting these four's next adventure in space. We board an alien ship that's obviously up to no good and hostile and let's wander around casually.

Two of us get captured? And we were doing so well up until now. Ely main character finds Emerson his bf that got captured and has to decide whether to help Emerson or rescue all the ships that are now trapped by the aliens.

So, on one side we have his bf, on the other eight or so thousand military personnel in multiple battleships and the fate of the human race. Ely's gonna go rescue his bf.

First Contact

Are these guys soldiers or 14 year old girls??? The romance between Ely and Emerson was fine, no problems there. That story was ok. But pretty much at every turn where the secondary military plot wove into the story, it was pure fail. And that ruined the whole thing for me. It was hard to treat the characters seriously when they were being such complete idiots as soldiers. The twists and turns regarding the aliens, the starships and how they got free from the aliens were all handled well and were done believably. There are things I had problems with.

The next story is First Contact. Aug 20, M'rella rated it really liked it Shelves: I hate to say that, but I am taking half a star off for editing. Some phrases kept popping up over and over and over again, pulling me out of the story. Taking another half star away for too much sweetness.

But it's my personal taste, has nothing to do with the book. That said - 4 solid stars. I will definitely buy the sequel. Very nice and easy read. Loved all the characters, great set up for the story.
