I really enjoyed this book and thought it was way better than "Sometime Yesterday", Yvonne Heidt's first novel. The author does a good job introducing us to the characters and unfolds the spiritual world in a way that pulls us in. Particularly, she does this really well through the character of Jordan, who is the biggest skeptic of all. As a reader identifying with Jordan, we are exposed to paranormal activity slowly that then builds in intensity so we don't get slammed with everything at once.

We learn the rules of how things work as Jordan does.

However, this is less of a romance and more of a lust-mance. We do get inside the heads of both Sunny and Jordan so it doesn't feel empty and it's just as charged as the paranormal activity that surrounds them. As the novel unfolds, though, intimacy and trust are built up and we feel their deeper connection. I thought the pacing of the book was great and it really picks up in intensity the last third of the novel.

Dialogue, plot, characters, etc all are well done and loose ends are tied up nicely. At the end of the story, we get a teaser of what's to come for Tiffany's character who the second book is about. The feel of the novel does edge on creepy and dark but it's not super scary. It's on par with watching something on Investigation Discovery, the crime channel. There is a rape trigger present and, since Jordan's character has a dark past, there's potential for a ptsd trigger from the child abuse depicted. View all 3 comments. I won this book and I didn't read the blurb terribly carefully but I ended up liking it much more than I expected to.

In fact, I will probably read the next two in the series. Sunny, Shade and Tiffany work together as the "Sisters of Spirits" using their different psychic abilities clear buildings of presences and contact deceased loved ones. One of the buildings is where Jordan lives. She is a very angry cop recently transferred from Seattle to Bremerton after being shot. Sunny is, as her name s I won this book and I didn't read the blurb terribly carefully but I ended up liking it much more than I expected to.

Sunny is, as her name suggests, light and airy to Jordan's dark and tortured and when they meet sparks fly. Okay, that sounds tacky but it's really not. The story has a good pace and a lot of what it has going for it is the relationship between the "sisters". I actually want to know what happens with both Tiffany and Shade. The ending let it down a little bit because it wasn't as tight as the rest of the story.

My rating hovers between three and four stars but has a slight leaning to three. View all 5 comments. Feb 17, Justina rated it it was amazing Shelves: Oh my goodness and be still my beating heart, a book completely immersed in parapsychic phenomena with potent female talents. Best of all, the handling of the psychic elements is wonderfully believable, incredibly detailed, and delightfully balanced with friendship, love, and multi-dimensional sexual heat. Not to be lost in the mix is the satisfying police procedural elements and a host of subsidiary characters who probably deserve their own book one of these days.

In short, there was practicall Oh my goodness and be still my beating heart, a book completely immersed in parapsychic phenomena with potent female talents. In short, there was practically nothing missing from this brilliant book! Jordan Lawson is a new member of the Bremerton Police having transferred from Seattle. She has moved into a third-floor apartment that rather quickly starts to exhibit all kinds of variations on "things that go bump in the night".

However, Jordan is a firm believer that things only exist if they are experienced with her five senses. Nevertheless, scores of experiences that do not meet these requirements continue to mount up. Yet she will not consider any explanation that slips outside her rigid requirements. This rigidity nearly undermines a heated attraction that she has with Sunny, a member of S. S which is the acronym for Sisters of Spirits. This organization was engaged by the landlady of her building who has been pushed beyond her limits with the scores of unexplained events that have occurred.

Jordan is an extremely complex, personally imposing, and impressive individual who initially locks horns with S. I adored Jordan for her tenacious and powerful presence. That is fairly impressive in light of all the psychic energy exploding around her. Sunny Skye is the force behind the origin of the S. Two other talented women whom she initially met when she was a child and her father was making a documentary about psychically gifted children, joined forces with her to start and sustain S.

Sunny and Jordan's story weaves throughout the book and is a joy unto itself even with all the ups and downs. Notwithstanding, her psychic skills along with her two associates are the ever pervasive stars of this story. Sunny is quite remarkable and is protectively hovered over by her two associates.

These three ladies are astounding! If I did not have obligations clogging up my day, I would have read this book in one sitting. It is that compelling, engrossing, and fulfilling. I am a devotee of psychic phenomena. However, I completely recommend this, suspecting that even non-devotee's will find just as much enjoyment and perhaps some new interest in the subject.

This is unquestionably a winner! Nov 05, Just a man's point of view rated it it was ok Shelves: I was somehow compelled to rate this book 4 stars because I really liked the ghost story, the rythm, the suspence. Above all, I thorougly appreciated the psychological insight of the character Jordan while coping with suffering and the deep understanding showed by Sunny in regard. I found passages I would define lyric in describing how the negativity is a self-created shadow much more than any ghost and later how the soul, who we really are, is really not touched by the dark gloom of sufference, I was somehow compelled to rate this book 4 stars because I really liked the ghost story, the rythm, the suspence.

I found passages I would define lyric in describing how the negativity is a self-created shadow much more than any ghost and later how the soul, who we really are, is really not touched by the dark gloom of sufference, which can shield temporarily who we are, but never destroy it. Contemporary life seems easy by contrast.

It had taken a wild and rough land to breed the big butts trees she saw when first she came here, and she reckoned it took a rough and hard life to breed the kind of folks she knew as a young woman. If you made it easy for folks, it seemed like their hardihood had to pay for it. By comparison, her youngest son, Chancey, follows the Socialist beliefs of social reformer Robert Owen.

He believes that the goal of the community should be sharing labor for the benefit of all, that progress means that work could be rewarding in itself, and there should not be wide separation of classes. Everybody can choose his own work and do as little of it as he wants to.

But progress will do away with all toil and labor in time. Everybody will share alike. And everybody will have security and happiness.

I find the fact the US Military immediately creates a unit for magically endowed soldiers amusing. If I stilled worked for that little independent book store, I would still be staff picking your work. Each book has a good dose of action and intrigue. I give this book five stars for the extent I relate to it and how it personally affects me, four stars on a purely objective evaluation. I thought the ending was much stronger than the rest of the book, and it gives me hope that I'll enjoy Javelin Rain more than this one, much I like I did with Fortress Frontier.
