Let me say this is amazing in conjunction with the french grammar for dummies book. They kinda bounce off each other which help understanding how to speak and write properly! For those people who rated and had issues with pronunciation- french isn't a language where you see what you say and it IS a bit difficult in talking verbally my second language I learned was German and let me tell you it is HARD to avoid saying 'ya sue- is' instead of je suis.
Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I will keep it short, simple, and to the point. This is the best short introduction to the French language and an excellent introduction to French grammar. I found this book incredibly well written, very concise and clear in explanation. The author is clearly a gifted teacher and let me tell you, I struggle with grammar, this book makes clear the fog of learning a new language. Whereas I find science and math not difficult and often intuitive a new language is not easy for me; mostly my poor background in English grammar I suspect, more like a swiss cheese with more holes than cheese.
This book fills those holes and is short enough to give it more than one careful reading. Practice may not make perfect but it sure helps French is a difficult language to learn but this book made it much easier. I bought this book based on comments from a previous reviewer who said it's a perfect book for those of us who took French in school. I took 3 yrs of French in high school, my 50th high school reunion is this year to give you an idea of how long ago that was. It's amazing how quickly I'm able to pick it up again using this book.
Great explanation of French verbs. This is a useful reference book for someone who studied French at school and wants to pick up the language again in later life.
It is giving me a short cut into the language and by using it I find I can remember more than I thought I would. It does not have the annoying bells and whistles that try to be amusing which is affected by some other modern textbooks, just good, solid information.
