If ever a reader would like to know how a young man, gay or straight, lives in the Navy and then becomes a landlord, this book gives only a glimmer, since the author cannot get past himself and his yearnings. I wonder what a gay young man might think about the Navy after reading Bonzo's book. It's the regimentation I would hate.

Still, I congratulate Bonzo for trying hard to write things down, especially the allusions made while in Suez Canal. Interesting also to finally learn that the name "Bonzo" is from the French "Bonzon".

One person found this helpful. My daughter was his first reader. In fact, she has a copy of the book courtesy of Mr. I was shocked to find out that my 7-year old was reading it. I was expecting her to just put the book aside and stop reading it when we get home, but at night, on our 20 minute reading session, she still reads this book and yes, she asked questions on some words that are not part of her vocabulary.. But it was amazing to see her reading the book almost everynight! And yes she didn't stop until she finished it!
