We are issuing a call to rise up like the child in the story and expose the Naked Emperor of Formal Education and Schooling. During this period, you will be exposed to some of the wildest ideas about learning and education from around the world. And help to co-create and share some wild and crazy prototypes. We don't want ideas to reform or fix the existing system - we want to hack it. For this period, fellows in India will receive a basic stipend of Rs.
All fellows will be supported in developing a project proposal for crowdfunding if they wish to take their project forward after the fellowship period. Meet all the fellows and engage in intense co-creation and design thinking process. Work on collective hacks. You are expected to engage in weekly check-in calls with your mentor and Sangha fellows. For fellows that are participating online, you will need internet access to check in and connect with others. Further logistics will be worked out once we know the various timezones participants are joining from.
The full fellowship will be open to those currently living in India. Hackers who apply from other countries can join in for selected activities. We will share the online meeting rhythm with those living outside of India at the end of the April.
The essential point of the fellowship is not to try to reform or improve schooling; this itself has become a big business. We want to shake up the game. Some examples of potential hacking projects include: Cities all over the world are rising up to make a difference in food, energy, transportation, communication and urban space.
We have been inspired in Udaipur as a Learning City by many others, and have compiled their amazing examples into a small booklet. What would it tell us? What would you do with it? What would you do with your life? What if… Mother Earth could speak? What would she tell us?

The book draws both on the author's extensive experience teaching about race and racism in classroom and community settings and from the theory and practice of a wide range of educators, activists, and researchers committed to social justice. The first chapter looks at the toxic consequences of our western cultural insistence on profit, binary thinking, and individualism to establish the theoretical framework for teaching about race and racism. Chapter three reviews the research on the construction and reconstruction of dominant culture both historically and now in order to establish sound strategic approaches that educators, teachers, facilitators, and activists can take as we work together to move from a culture of profit and fear to one of shared hope and love.
Chapter four lays out the stages of a process that supports teaching about racist, white supremacy culture, explaining how students can be taken through an iterative process of relationshipbuilding, analysis, planning, action, and reflection. The final chapter borrows from the brilliant, brave, and incisive writer Dorothy Allison to discuss the things the author knows for sure about how to teach people to see that which we have been conditioned to fear knowing.
The chapter concludes with how to encourage and support collective and collaborative action as a critical goal of the process. Read more Read less. Add both to Cart Add both to List. Tema Okun's book came to me when I was feeling angry, frustrated and overwhelmed by the resistance of non-Aboriginal people who were deflecting the horrific realities of present day impacts of Canada's colonial history on Indigenous people. This book provides concrete examples to help White people to begin to consider and to explore the topic of White privilege and unearned advantages that we experience on a daily basis.
