The price for a paperback version is about the same as for the Kindle version. The second question that I have of the book is that the author spends a whole chapter on Personality Testing-- but if the purpose of this test is to get a taste of what an actual IQ test would be like, then what is the point of giving us something where there are no right or wrong answers? The third thing that comes up is: Some of these questions were so easy, I can't imagine that someone would include them on a standard IQ test.
Some of these things were from 9th grade geometry. There are only two general IQ tests and it is not clear if they are like what we would see if we went in to actually take a test. The fourth problem is that his verbal analogies test A lot of his words, when I checked them again in the dictionary didn't mean what he thought they meant.
And perhaps there are some differences in English usage between the English and the Americans that account for this, and in that case that's another thing of which to be careful when using this book for practice. It seems that there were a couple of mistakes in the problems i. It might have worked out better if the author had given us 5 or 6 timed tests and then allowed us to check our answers so that we could get an idea of what our score would be.
And omitted things that were not scorable. This book is not bad. The book is fine but is not what I needed. Was looking for a basic cognitive test set This one does not have a large number of practice questions and there is limited variety. The few samples presented here are okay.
As a now retired teacher, I found Philip Carter's books valuable tools to keeping the kids and me sharp. A page a day for the kids before class got started was a popular beginning to each day. Now, without the students, I still have the books. Carter is not perfect, and once in a rare while, there is an error, or a problem not comprehensible to American kids versus British or Canadian kids. But hey, who cares! They learn a little something about a larger world. Great book for pre-employment testing.
Definitely gives you an advantage. Only thing missing are logic problems LSAT type questions , but covers all the other potential pre-employment test type questions and helps you understand what to look for. Would highly recommend to anyone that has to do a pre-employment test.
One person found this helpful. I bought this book for an upcoming interview where the company is notorious for given psychometric exams to their applicants. It is well worth the money for its content and variety. I must admit though, the tests given in this workbook sure make you feel stupid when you wrack your brain trying to solve a problem and find out the answer when analyzing your results. Above all a very good book and I plan on buying more of these books from the same author.

Helped me immensely to prepare for a psychometric test in the military! I found it very useful and it helped me a lot in the test I had to do. Simply explained with good examples of what might be asked in the test. See all 12 reviews.
