I would cast a cursory glance over the next day's stretch while planning each day, and then turn to the detailed terrain profiles and maps provided by the volunteers in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port instead. For me, the most useful part of the book was the list of hostels at the back. In addition, there were a few spelling and grammar errors, more so than can be attributed to simple oversight. Overall, I would recommend that pilgrims buying this book read it before beginning the trip, as a way of preparing for the journey. At the very least a second, more detailed map should be brought along.

Photos are poorly captioned; stages should be described by time and distance; and the book is too heavy to pack. Lodging list is very helpful but could use a list of grocery stores and restaurants as well. Apr 06, Anne Lawrence rated it it was amazing. Trying to determine if good weight to take on the trip.
