In , a cheap and nasty Chinese film about fantasy based martial arts was released named The Storm Riders. Storm Riders is about a Lord Conqueror played by Sonny Chiba who received word from the Mud Buddha that if he finds his apprentices Cloud and Wind he will be invincible for 10 years. Simultaneously the rest of his fortune would be revealed by opening a sacred box that is presented to him.
His adopted sons Cloud and Wind are powerful fighters and serve under him loyally.
But the Mud Buddha has disappeared and must be found. Finally the Lord opens the box and hears that Could and Wind will come together and defeat him. So the Lord Conqueror turns the two against each other by marrying Wind to his daughter Charity, knowing that Cloud and Charity have been practicing the horizontal dance screwing. On the day of wedding Cloud arrives and takes Charity away. Trying to protect Cloud, Charity steps into the path of the Lord strike and is killed.
This movie sure is colorful and tells the story of some powerful beings who deliver energy blasts and all sorts of terrific fighting moves. It was especially strange because his lips synced well with the Mandarin dub One person found this helpful. I have to start with some information and answers to questions first here. This IS the film about wind, cloud, storm, and frost who control an elemental force each with cloud having the water manipulation power, frost having ice powers and storm having a few powers.
This is a story of a japanese warlord seeking to become the supreme ruler of the entire province. However, the Storm Riders goes somewhat beyond the usual and adds in a set of actors who were clearly chosen not just for their ability to carry off martial arts on screen, but for their prettyboy looks -- a characteristic of a great deal of the "god-warrior" anime subgenre. In the great tradition of classics the world round, like Pharoah and Moses in the Old Testament, Conquer's actions subsequent to the prophecy are, of course, going to make it come true.
Just once, I'd like to see a show in which the prophet makes this prophecy and the Evil Dude shortcircuits it by shooting the prophet and ignoring the prediction.
Maybe I'll do that for my next book. Conquer finds all boys who might fit the description and raises them as his own having, naturally, whacked their parents.
Things go along swimmingly for Conquer for a while, but naturally this is all going to come apart once the boys become young men. Those who master certain techniques Frost Fist, etc end up able to take on dozens or hundreds of lesser foes, freezing them solid, electrocuting them, burning, etc. They have power attacks that hit at range and can do damn impressive amounts of damage.
Okay, we're not talking Dragonball Z here, but it's up there with Saint Seiya. Saint Seiya keeps coming to mind when watching, too; personalities and even appearances of certain characters remind Seiya fans almost irresistably of some of the Saint Seiya characters -- there's a Shun equivalent, an Ikki equivalent, and a Shiryu equivalent. Conqueror, believing himself free of the prophecy, challenges and defeats Sword Saint after the latter is distracted by Muse. Frost arrives and announces his discovery that it was Conqueror who kidnapped Mud Buddha and framed Wind and Cloud.
Conqueror, now deluded into the belief he is invincible, kills Frost, who attempts to leave the clan. Soon afterwards, Wind and Cloud meet upon the steps to Conqueror's main hall and, united by their common enemy, confront Conqueror. As the fight spills over into the Sword Graveyard, Wind and Cloud are almost outmatched by Conqueror's superior sword skills. However, the blood from a cut on Cloud's arm reveals to him the location of Ultimate Sword which Conqueror unknowingly had amongst the standard weapons littering the ground.
With Striding Sky's sword in hand, Cloud rejoins Wind in the battle and Conqueror is soon beaten, with Wind stopping Cloud from landing the death blow so Conqueror is left insane and tormented by the ghosts of those he has killed, including his beloved Charity. Ekin Cheng and Aaron Kwok returned for the sequel, reprising their respective roles as Wind and Cloud. The film was helmed by the Pang brothers and followed the Japanese Invasion story arc of the comics.
Tse played the villain Heartless while Yam played his father, Lord Godless. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
