Cottonwood Center of Art Studio Artist: Welcome to Studio Born a Colorado native then spending many formative years in Michigan surrounded by fresh water, I continually observe and am fascinated by its constantly changing form while it trickles, seeps and flows.

I discover patterns when it freezes. I am spellbound when it floats in the air…it represents a precise process, an exchange of energy that has its own natural timing and organization. She has since built an impressive resume as a visiting artist and artist in residence both in Europe and in the U.

Her abstract works, which are comprised of powdered pigment suspended in water-based varnish on fiberglass paper and wood, are meant to capture the temperament of her surroundings and to reflect the ever-changing environment. She values the establishment of personal connections and hopes to be instrumental in building awareness of the importance of the environment to society and culture through her interactions with the public at all levels of art awareness.

Building up our inventory of experiences that support the value of creativity and cultural heritage to the lives of citizens is key. I am interested in capturing the temperament of my surroundings and reflecting my ever-changing environment. Flickering between two-dimensional and three-dimensional experiences my work addresses the conceptual spirit of water. I continually observe and am fascinated by its constantly changing form while it trickles, seeps, and flows. I am spellbound when it floats in the air. Water is capable of great power and destruction.

It is beautiful as it filters, reflects, refracts, and interacts with light. It represents a precise process, an exchange of energy that has its own natural timing and organization. Water is a precious resource that we need to protect. Environmental awareness and protecting our natural resources are crucial if we are to survive. As a cultural we are too busy to notice the delicacy of this complete system of life.

Through my work as an artist, I view my work as a means to highlight these subtle spaces that filter and support water. It is crucial that we attend to the beauty, tranquility, and serenity in order to return to the center of balance.

When we take care of our water we directly impact ourselves. Eleanor Anderson Visual Arts. My studio practice is anchored in my love of drawing and collage as a process of assembling, exploring and playing. I work in an intuitive process of decision making that allows my forms to repeat and evolve from one work to the next, shifting in unexpected and delightful ways in each iteration.

By allowing an idea to ricochet though different forms 2D to 3D, figurative to abstract, functional to non-functional I expand my vocabulary of bold colors and graphic patterns, and discover new visual possibilities for form and surface design. I am excited by working with bright and ambitious color combinations to observe how patterns interact and modify color.

In I moved to Colorado, and have lived in the Manitou Springs area for over 15 years. I attended graduate school at the University of Colorado, where I received a masters degree in counseling and human services. Drawing from the magical world of my imagination, I have worked in many different mediums including oils, watercolor, pastels, clay, acrylics, found objects in nature and photography to create unique and expressive pieces of art. My recent works are multi-media, contemporary paintings.

In addition to my own painting, I am the director of Studio rla, Expressive Arts Center in Manitou Springs, where I work with children, teens, families and individuals, using the arts as a mode for healing. I conduct one-day art workshops, using the touch drawing process, with teens and adults, and teach art to teens enrolled with FutureSelf. Imagination is experienced in magical moments when the impossible becomes possible.

It is a place where the rules of reality have no impact. By freeing ourselves — letting go of that which confines us allows us to create from a space that is individual and unique, where art becomes an expression of the soul. My quest as an artist is to create without inhibition, from the world of my imagination.

Touch Drawing has lit the path to that surprising and inspiring world. Touch Drawing is a very simple process. A smooth board is covered with a layer of oil paint, and then a sheet of tissue paper is placed over the paint. Wherever the paper is touched, an imprint is made on the backside. In one drawing session, I may do 20 to 30 drawings. I often use meditation and music as inspiration during this process. I begin to move my fingers over the paper without an intention of form or figure.

Images emerge from the lines drawn, sometimes almost leaping out. To me, they represent inner sub-conscious workings, messages form my soul. I review each drawing afterward, absorbing it into my conscious mind. Now I begin to see more detail, forms that I may have not seen earlier. After the drawings have dried, I mount them on watercolor paper or canvas. The wrinkles in the tissue paper add texture. I then begin to add watercolor and pastels, to bring to life the images I have discovered.

As I work, it is an intuitive force that leads me. The process is very satisfying, very freeing, and I am always amazed at what appears from the world of my imagination. Brett Andrus Visual Arts. Andrus divides his time between a career in the financial industry, co-ownership with his wonderful wife Lauren of the award-winning art galleries The Modbo and S. However, despite the new media, the new scales, he remains firmly in the realm of the narrative figurative, seeking to connect with the viewer on a sensual and emotional level.

Influenced by Egon Schiele, Kent Williams, and Jenny Saville, Andrus uses his fascination with realism to find his contemporary voice within the constructs of the classical female form. Ele Annand Visual Arts. Anthony Archuleta Visual Arts. Born and raised in Colorado, Anthony Tomas realized at a very young age that he possessed a unique ability to capture and express emotions on canvas.

His talents did not go unrecognized, and as a result had many of his early childhood artwork displayed in various art centers in Colorado. His work in oils and true fresco continues to evolve from the realism of portraits toward an impressionistic style, where color draws a person into the picture enabling the viewer to feel the emotion that the painting portrays. A number of his paintings currently reside in private collections and galleries. Inspired by his travels to Spain, France, Italy and South America, Anthony incorporates the use of both knives and brushes along with dramatic and intense colors to create his unique one-of-a-kind paintings.

He is best known for his ability to combine colors and textures to evoke feelings and moods in his work. Anthony still resides in Colorado, and continues to travel and gain inspiration for his artwork. His artwork is color changing which allows you to experience 2 realities with the same art piece.

The use of ultraviolet light elevates fantastic and unused colors into our realm of vision.

Diego Arnedo also is a performer. These performances go hand in hand with house music, ambient, and world sounds. Diego incorporates conceptual lighting, visuals, and illusions into each show. Toward the end, and clearly looking for filler material, we get the details of Nikki's rather aesthetic and short-lived romance with LA Ink's Kat Von D. In a breakup almost predictable from the start, Sixx nevertheless delivers eloquent and heartfelt tribulations while attempting to manage a Crue tour. Again, much of this shows a depth of character unseen in Diaries while also being surprisingly moving.

He then ends the book with his current projects for fashion, radio and Covenant House, a private agency that assists homeless teenagers. To me, "This Is Gonna' Hurt" is an almost inadvertent philosophical success. Nikki Sixx, in an attempt to conceptualize his post Heroin Diaries sobriety, has delivered a marvelous treatise on maturation and personal enlargement. There is much to take away from these renderings of a veteran rock star and I for one found them quite inspiring. Again, not a work for the general reader, but if you have or had any interest in Motley Crue or with the current expansion of its founder, you'll be rewarded with a read of true inspiration and, after a listen to the soundtrack, a mark of how he's progressed.

The more I read, the more impressed I am with his commitment to self-discovery and to consistently working to become a new and better version of himself, even when that means diligently sorting through a whole pile of pain and confusion and inner turmoil. His evolution as a human being is extraordinary and unbelievably admirable. If only we could all be so enlightened and open to growth. Beneath the chaos or maybe alongside it? His dark-yet-beautiful photography and artistic formatting grace the book with a unique sense of personality.

Indeed, it seems that Nikki Sixx has never been one to color inside the lines; his books, his looks, his life are all born outside the conventional box and the results are magnificent, to say the least. In the middle of an uncomfortable growth spurt of my own, this book was right on time. Jun 09, Ed rated it really liked it Shelves: Dammit, Nikki is so good at spewing pretentious, arrogant twaddle. But at least he makes no apologies for it, I have to admire that.

And under all his ramblings I think he had a few good points to make. He has passion, I admire that too. Mostly I'm giving it 4 stars for the photography, and Nikki's cool hair. Many things hurt me when I was young and of those those things this is the one that helped me live a little longer instead of die a little faster. The photos are breathtaking and the diary-like entries hit me hard. But sometimes you need it. I almost never recommended this book, it's so close to me it feels like ripping off a scab and handing it to stranger but if I had more steal in my back and armor in my chest I would.

I figured the book would be a bit raw. I expected his photography to be off the wall and yes, much of his photography really disturbed me. However, I would have been more concerned if he photographed bunnies and turtles and frolicking children so I was ready for gritty stuff. Although his style of I bought this book because I wanted to read about Nikki Sixx's photography. Although his style of shooting and editing isn't exactly my cup of tea I can appreciate what he is trying to do as an artist.

I also see beauty in what others may deem ugly and discarded. I have been wanting to shoot street photography and tried to in Philly last summer. I ticked off a morbidly obese homeless woman who scared the heck out of me. The way she yelled at me made me realize I was not ready and I took it too lightly. Also, I need a really great telephoto lens to avoid another encounter The take away from this book is 1 create the art you want to create. Someone will get it, maybe not everyone but someone will appreciate it. I could relate to Nikki's conversation with Tommy Lee.

How Tommy thought Nikki was really messed up because of his style of photography. Draw attention to things that have been discarded. May 31, Elizabeth rated it it was amazing. Known for infusing her love of nature into her original compositions, Mickey has just released a new line of contemporary art, rich in color and flowing design that sparks the imagination. The truth hurts but as you read this book you know that whil it hurts, he speaks the truth. One day you feel one way, the next you're dealing with crap that makes you fell otherwise.

Talk about a study in narcissistic personality disorder!! I thought I'd just thumb through this and laugh, but it actually turned out to be engaging and relatively humble. The basic purpose of this book probably 12th-step work on his part was to describe what he does in sobriety and how he has changed his life art, meditation, gratitude. There is some I downloaded a bunch of ebooks from the library to tide me over the long Thanksgiving weekend. There is something inspirational about that. I wouldn't spend money on this book, but it is enjoyable for what it is. It was an interesting counterpoint to the other book I read also dealing with the aftermath of addiction--Cocaine's Son--written by a NY Times journalist about his addict father.

Obviously that memoir was well written with an attempt to be profound. Interestingly, it came up short and lacking compared to this book that you might expect would be inferior. Just goes to show you, don't judge a book by its cover. Nov 07, Lily rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: This Is Gonna Hurt. Nikki talks about his life, music, addictions, inspirations, life principles and love.

He isn't afraid to shock, as Heroin Diaries proved, and even yearns for this reaction. He certainly got one from me. Not in the form of "oh my god, his life and work is so scandalous" but "whoa, Nikki, you dared to share this story with us". Between all his stories there are some of his photographs, which couldn't be called anything else than beautiful, especially while not particularly being the kind that majority of society would like.

I have been wanting to take on photography for a long time, and Nikki's work finally inspired me to do so. If I had to sum up this whole book in one word, it would be - inspirational. From dealing with my addictions, to setting my life straight and taking on photography, it inspired me to become a better person, no matter how cheesy or worn-out it may sound. This Is Gonna Hurt is one of those few books that I would recommend for everyone to read at one point in their lives.

Nikki Sixx isn't the greatest writer by any means, but I understand his words like they were written from my own hand or spoken with my own voice.

This was a My hardcover copy of this has a slightly different cover than this. This was a great book of how we as a society judge others before knowing anything of that individual, other than appearance. I love Nikki's truthful attitude about the ugliness of we, "the beautiful people". His photography is really good and I love his use of light on his subjects.

I am happy for him as he found another form of self expression he can convey to others away from the rock star that he is. This is a keeper for my collection. Jan 12, Gato rated it liked it. Nikki Sixx is a tormented guy. When reading this 'intensely personal by his account' book I couldn't help but feel like I was reading something penned by someone's kid brother trying to find himself at a something age and everyone reading his prose would be sitting around and saying, "Oh he'll understand some day As best I can tell, from the countless books and stories I've read about him I'm a lover of his music Nikki Sixx is a tormented guy.

As best I can tell, from the countless books and stories I've read about him I'm a lover of his music , he spent so many years in a drug-induced haze that he didn't actually process his emotions or really feel anything that was real for 20 plus years. So, it kind of makes sense that he, newly clean, would be blathering on like a college student in his first ever Philosophy class. His photographs were interesting, dark and artistic.
