Most successful people take the opposite view.
They look for a way to make things better. When things go wrong, they quickly look for ways to put them right.
No one is habitually luckier or unluckier than anyone else. It may seem so, over the short term Random events often come in groups, just as random numbers often lie close together for several instances—which is why gamblers tend to see patterns where none exist. When you take a longer perspective, random chance is just.
Yet those who feel that they are less lucky, typically pay far more attention to short-term instances of bad luck, convincing themselves of the correctness of their belief. You learned it somehow. As a result, you will almost certainly stop trying, convinced that nothing you can do will improve your prospects. Your attention is under your control. Send it where you want it to go. Starve the negative thoughts until they die.
To improve your fortune, first decide that what happens is nearly always down to you; then try focusing on what works and what turns out well, not the bad stuff. When random events happen, as they always will, do you choose to try to turn them to your advantage or just complain about them? LoboStudio Hamburg via unsplash. Share Pin it Tweet Share Email. What Is Your Destiny in Life? How to Mindfully Achieve Your Purpose.
More by this author Seth Simonds. Let me let you into a secret: Stop believing that what happens in your life is down to the vagaries of luck, destiny, supernatural forces, malevolent other people, or anything else outside your self.
Sadly, I can't because as soon as I finished reading Erv and Carrie's book, I was so excited to share their great thoughts that I sent it off to a family member to read. They've since lent it out to another friend, so I may never get my copy back, but that's ok. I'm ordering 10 copies to give away as Christmas gifts. This book is easy to read, very entertaining, full of heartfelt wisdom and hard-earned knowledge from a couple of college professors that live out their faith day to day.
The Starrs teach by example, giving us valuable insight into that most sensitive of areas, their pocketbook! You will be richly blessed in all sorts of ways by reading this book. I highly recommend it! One person found this helpful.
Find someone to talk to about it. I read the book in a couple days, but still find myself thinking and talking about it, weeks later. I came away asking myself a lot of questions. Are there times when I pay more, but really get less? How can decisions made now result in greater financial freedom down the road?
What are some things that really are worth paying for? How much more love can I show to my spouse and children by exerting more effort and creativity?
What benefits are there for kids who grow up in a family that spends less money? The Starrs are a principled, creative, and adventurous couple. I enjoyed this peek into their unconventional lifestyle, and I feel challenged to rethink my own way of life. This book is an easy read with some really great money-management advice. The fun part is it's all wrapped into a truly beautiful and captivating love story. The only reason I had to deduct a star was because of a number of unfortunate typos. Hopefully it's such a success they get to release a 2nd edition and correct them ;.
The book has a great voice! I felt as if Erv and Carrie were in the room telling me the stories and giving me the advice. It's an intimate look at how one couple put aside pop-culture and forgot about "keeping up with the Jones'" and just set financial boundaries that would lead them to financial success. Whether or not you like the style of the book, the principles are that of setting yourself and your family up for financial freedom and with the way the economy is today we need more anecdotes like the ones shared in this book because nothing is truly "cheap" these days. A wise person once told me, "A short time of sacrifice, for a lifetime of happiness-" I feel this book captures that completely.
At the end, I feel challenged to think more, spend less, and choose wisely.
I live in town and a small garden and so do my neighbors, we swap produce every year. But we get ran off by the forest service every 14 days. This is indeed a social program. Be responsible for yourself and your family and help others to do the same by your shining example. I think that many Americans feel threatened by the notion that you can live well on less. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I think some of my favorite tips were the "date night" tips. Date night can be a nice dinner cooked together at home, a movie from your own DVD collection, then go OUT for dessert only.
So you're only paying for maybe a shared sundae or a few pieces of pie. You still get that "going out" vibe and still get a break from being in the house, but much cheaper! This book has many other great tips too! It's a great book for anyone looking to be a bit more frugal in all aspects of your life! See all 33 reviews. Most recent customer reviews.
