An excellent overview of "Accounting and Finance". Mark and Peter have come up with an unique way of teaching double- entry accounting and showing how the overall business process works in a fun parable. They give you real value for a very small price! The most difficult part for me about accounting was grasping the fundamentals - debit and credit.

I always got confused here-truth be told I have seen MBAs struggle many times when I ask them explain the rationale. Over years I just "got it" in other words knew how it worked. I had to teach a class of entrepreneurs and needed a simple way to explain the concept and I bumped into this book. This is one book which clears you up once for all. It is not a book about accounting rules, but explains accounting clearly, cleanly and helps you retain.

I've probably purchased 20 books on accounting, and this simple little book did what none of the heavy-weights couldn't, for me at least. It made accounting theory make sense. I've gained invaluable confidence in that portion of my management job. I no longer have to worry about being "talked down to" by the CPA, o pretending to understand concepts when in truth I didn't.

I'll be recommending this book, as well as purchasing copies for some of my employees, without a doubt. I was always frustrated with accounting because my logic just didn't seem to match up with the logic of a seasoned accountant. This book definitely teaches you the "right" logic to have when learning accounting. Any visual learner trying to learn account will definitely find this book indispensable!! I highly recommend drawing out the examples and charts to get a better understanding.

Unfortunately, this book doesn't explain much about actually doing accounting. I think this book is good for people wanting to start a business or those who have taken accounting, but never fully got it. Open Preview See a Problem? Take your time with this book, and accounting in general, if you really want to it sink in. I made the decision to finish up my Accounting degree after a 4 year break. I purchased this book to refresh my memory about Accounting before I jummped back into classes.

This book presented some basic accounting principles in a way that was related to a real situation which in my pinion made the concepts easy to grasp and understand. It was an ok book but for the purpose that I wanted to use it for, one of the " For Dummies" books probably would have been a better choice. This book summarizes the accounting process pretty well, though it is more verbose than it really has to be. It seems to be written in such a way that anyone can read it, which explains why it is too verbose.

It repeats some of the material in different ways so that it can be understood by everyone. Unfortunately, this book doesn't explain much about actually doing accounting. It's more of a broad overview.

To actually do some rudimentary accounting, I had to purchase another book Accounting Demystified. Would that more books were like this -- able to explain complicated subjects in a straightforward manner. In addition, the book is a quick read which reinforces the learning experience. Though I am not new to accounting, the story parable made clear some concepts that were always somewhat confusing. I highly recommend this book for students and teachers. See all 60 reviews.
