She said that a letter came i the mail from the publishing place and he told her to send it right away. He waited a couple days and it came it said that the publisher wanted to meet him in person. He was so exited he called the number on the paper and she told him she would need to figure out where and when they would meet. The next week he got a call that the coming saturday she would be a the airport and that they could have lunch together. They met that saturday and the woman was really nice and and wanted him to fix a few things in the book and that was about it.
The man fought Travis and Travis was hurt then the manager came and talked tho the guy and told him he wasn't fired then he started and kicked Travis one more time. Uncle Ken said he would have brought him to get a beer. A week later Joe called and said he was at Quick trip so he picked him up and told him what was going on. So one day Travis comes home and Stan is alitttle drunk and he says "I thought your mother told you to clean yourb room" Stan was bent over the fire place and as Travis looks at Stan he see's Stan with all his papers burning them , so this makes Travis really upset and shot Stan but he only shot him alittle thrn the cops came took Travis and put him juvi.
But insfead of stayinb in juiv he had to go stay with his uncle. His uncle lives on a farm real hot out their but Travis says its better then going back home. So he gets their meets his uncle who looks like a older Travis real handsome.
His uncle doesn't talk much keeps too himself. Travis starts his new school thinking its going to be just like at home where be was popular had his own group or whatever but he soon realized it was nothing no one would galk to him and ge felt like an outsider. He them got a job meets this real pretty girl named Casey he says he fell in love. Casey was 2 years older then Travis really long blonde hair and a smile that was out of this world. Casey rides a horse thats called "The Star Runner" real beautiful horse but its crazy. One day Travis gets a call from a women named Ms.
Taming the Star Runner () is a young adult coming-of-age novel written by S. E. Hinton, author of The Outsiders. Unlike her previous young adult novels. Start by marking “Taming the Star Runner” as Want to Read: He does find friendship of a sort with Casey, who runs a riding school at the ranch. Shoudln't Taming the Star Runner be made into a movie?.
Travis tells everyone he is very excited he's actually a writer now. And no one seems to understand his excitement they dont know the right things too say to him. Finally Travis and Casey admitted their feelings for each other but then they got into an accident and after that he really didnt feel the same.
Travis friend Joe comes to him with a crazy story on how he is on the run so Traviz asks Ken Travis's uncle for some helpand Joe turns himself in and as all that is going on Travis's book is getting Published and as for Joe no one really knows what happened to him. I liked everything about this book it wax very interesting to read and I actuakky didnt want too stop. My favorite part of the whole book is when Travis finally admits to Casey how heis in love and she basically feels the same way.
Whzt was very confusing was the way the storh kind of jumps around and you get confused alittle bit but just for a few seconds. This author is very specific when sbe wrotes and thats why I love reading her books. What I really did not like about this book is how Ken and Travis's relationship really didnt grow they bad little moments during the whole thing but it rezlly wasn't what I wanted it too be. I wish the ending was alittle different maye alittle mkre detaiked bht other then that the book was amazing.
I would deffintly recommend this book to anyone. Apr 16, Stephanie rated it it was ok Shelves: This book was just OK. To be fair I rate all S. Hinton's book by my love for The Outsiders and this is no comparison. That being said this was a fairly typical, semi-real-life teen book with a little too much drama from He pretty popular at his city school and spends a lot of time boozing and smoking ciga This book was just OK. He pretty popular at his city school and spends a lot of time boozing and smoking cigarettes and weed with his friends, Joe, Kirk and the Twins. He has a volatile relationship with his stepfather, Stan.
Travis' mother is a pushover who is physically and emotional abused by Stan as well.
One night Travis is at his breaking point and nearly kills Stan. Because he is a minor and this is his first offense, he is sent to live with his uncle Ken in Missouri. Unbeknownst to his family and friend's Travis has written a book and submitted it to a publishing company and they want to publish his book. While at his uncle's he goes to new school where is is an outsider and he is not used to people ignoring him. He also works on his uncle horse ranch and meets Casey which is actually KC a horse trainer and rider and Jeniffer.
At first, he doesn't want to hang with a "bunch of girls" but soon becomes friends with them and develops a major crush on KC. But to be honest I could have done without all the horse stuff because it didn't add to the story for me at all. There is also another sub story with his friend Joe that is supposed to help show him the errors of his old ways and get him to think about his actions and the consequences of such actions.
The cover of the book that I have, has the guy with the boom box leaning against the horse stall and he looks old as hell. Lines I liked in the book: Being a partner is fine. It's the practice of law that sucks. Nov 15, Daniel Gomez rated it really liked it. Have you ever heard of anyone trying to kill their own stepdad? I thought this book was really good. Most books I get bord by just reading the first chapter, but not with this book. It was really interesting and enjoyable.
Travis gets home one day from school and Have you ever heard of anyone trying to kill their own stepdad? Travis gets home one day from school and finds Stan burning all his personal items. Travis has have enough and gets sent to juvenile hall after attacking Stan.
His mom decides to send him away for a year. When he gets to his uncles its nothing like he expected it to be. He didn't fit in with anyone at school. Untill he meets Casey the coolest, bravest girl he has ever met. Casey surprizes Travis when he finds out she tames horses and it planning on tamming the star Runner.
The Star Runner is a dangerous horse. When Travis recieves a phone call from his mother saying he has a letter at home from a book company he finds out he might be able to publish his own book. The only problem is that He needs a signature from his mom and his stepdad Stan.
Stan refuses to sign a letter. What will Travis do to get Stan to sign the letter? At his new school he is invisible. Uncle Ken is 37 and its akward with Travis at first ,but then they grow a strong relationship. It was exciting and really well written. One of my favorite part of the book is when Travis attacks Stan because he deserved it. I would compare this book to The outsiders not only because they have the same author S. Both books have similar story lines and are also exciting. I could relate this to my life by once going to my uncles ranch in California.
Another reason for liking this book to much is that its really good and I couldn't stop reading it. Another good part was when Travis was scared to go on the airplane, and he is supposed to be a tough guy. I could relate this to my life by me being scared to go to the airplane. Overall I though this book was really good. I would recommand this to kids my age beacuse younger kids would understand it. This book was really good.
Jun 20, Haley rated it really liked it. I really enjoyed reading Taming the Star Runner. The book, to me at least, was not the most thought provoking of S. Hinton's novels, but it still was very interesting.
The parts about Travis, a sixteen year old boy, trying to sell his novel were probably my favorite parts. I really liked how Hinton put in parts very similar to herself and her publication story into Travis' character. You could tell that she knew a lot about what she was talking about, and it made everything about the publicati I really enjoyed reading Taming the Star Runner. You could tell that she knew a lot about what she was talking about, and it made everything about the publication process very interesting.
Though I really liked the book, it was definitely not my favorite of her works. Parts about training the horses didn't always make sense to me considering I know nothing about horses and sometimes left me confused. I also thought that Travis' relationship with Casey was a bit odd. There were other parts of the story that I just didn't quite see the meaning behind. For example, I didn't really have any pity for Joe after the events that occurred at the end of the novel. If there was more time building up his friendship with Travis and more about his character overall, I think it would have impacted me more.
The thing was, there was only ever brief instances that Joe or the twins were apart of, so I don't see how a reader can feel attached to them as characters. In the book, Travis's last name is Harris, but I thought that since his dad died before he was born that maybe he just took his mom's last name. It is also stated that his dad's name is Tim. I know Tim's brother's name is Curly in previous novels, but maybe he later on changed it to Ken? Teresa, in response to this, and discovering Travis' criminal record, threatens to use his presence in Ken's house to win full custody of Christopher and Ken almost kicks Travis out in his real to be with his son.
Eventually they make peace after they realize that they both hoped that the other would be the father and son they were looking for. It turns out Travis' father died in the Vietnam War two months before Travis was born. Ken then agrees to help Travis get his book published, going with him to meet the publisher Ms. Carmichael when she comes to town, and even arranges some publicity with a TV interview at a station owned by a friend of his.
Travis then gets a surprise visit from his friend Joe, who had hitchhiked his way there. Instead of this being a joyous event, Joe reveals that after Travis left, his friends, Joe and the twins, Billy and Mike, had turned to burglary, fencing the goods through a man named Orson. After Joe quit, the twins continued their burglaries, but found a new fence.
For this, Orson killed the twins and tried to make Joe help him. Travis and Ken convince Joe that he must return to face trial as an accomplice, and take him to the local police for extradition.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book and Hinton's writing style. He is a writer and one day he came home from school to see his stepdad burning the papers he had typed for his book. For this, Orson killed the twins and tried to make Joe help him. Her dad is worse. Aug 13, Jill Butler rated it liked it.
As they return to Ken's ranch, a huge lightning storm strikes and Ken and Travis must go help Casey round up the horses into the barn. As they do this, the Star Runner breaks free of his paddock. Casey and Travis give chase only to have Casey's jeep struck by lightning.
Although it is not directly stated, the Star Runner is killed This is implied from Travis smelling burned flesh. The book ends as Casey and Travis have recovered from the accident and the temporary hearing loss. Though Casey had previously spurned Travis' romantic overtures, they are now close friends who share a common bond. Travis also realizes that he, like the Star Runner, should never allow himself to be tamed or broken, even when life is at its worst. Sponsored products related to this item What's this?

In high school you can imagine how this would go over. He has a lousy stepfather as seems oft to be the case, who does something incredibly insensitive to Travis and it lands Travis out in the mid west living with his Uncle on a farm away from the city and everything he knows and understands. Talk about a "fish out of water"!
Here he meets Casey and her crazy horse, The Star Runner. Slowly a relationship between Travis, Casey, and his Uncle Ken begins to develop. Here is where Ms.
Weaving a story full of vibrant characters and their interactions into a deeply felt finality. The ending is extremely subtle and true to real life. Again, what I love about this author.
