Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Agatha knew how to write. That said, the book dragged at times due to the included melodrama! BUT, it was a very relaxing book to pass the time in a busy season. Sometimes you need a complete escape and this one was good for that. The best thing about Agatha Christie's work really, besides the expert writing and the interesting plots and settings, is her humor - LOVE the humor.

Very English and very droll. Some of the characters are the stuff of laughter, and in this romp she has some fun with them all. This one is a favorite! Read it many years ago and then again just recently. Even though it's quite a different era, it is still a very timely piece. Great fun and a real surprise! I am constantly in awe of Christie's talent and abilities. The way she can just immerse the reader in the setting and atmosphere, and make you feel you are an observer on the scene -- and yet not be able to figure out the mystery or culprit.

When the denoument comes, one realizes all the clues are there, but we didn't put quite get it. Such a fun read. Even if you've read all her works, many are worth a second look -- this is one! Try it and see. This is the second book I have read by Agatha Christie and again I did not successfully guess who was the villain.

There was a great and incredible cast of characters and a number of twists and turns and the story always held my attention. I am going in sequential order by publishing date and what makes the story more interesting is that you are getting a view of time that is long gone post WWI. Perceptions, conversations and views are sometimes very different from our time. In a sense you are getting to live in another time much like watching a well done historical period movie.

If you have not read any of her books then I recommend starting with the oldest first written books and enjoy being back to a time that is long gone. Anne Beddingfeld has always longed for adventure. But as the only daughter of an eccentric professor more content to dwell on the peculiar charms of the Paleolithic period than modern times, she feared her dreams of adventure and romance would always remain just out of reach. When her father unexpectedly passes away, leaving her with a small inheritance, Anne -- equal parts practical and romantic -- seizes the chance to leave her small-town life behind forever and go in search of her own adventure.

Traveling to London, she witnesses a man fall to his death on the tracks at a tube station, an incident the police are willing to attribute to a tragic accident -- but the look of terror on the man's face, coupled with the mysterious presence of a man in a brown suit who vanished after examining the victim, leaving behind a scrap of paper with a cryptic appointment written on it, leave Anne convinced of foul play.

Determined to discover the truth of the matter, Anne launches an unofficial investigation, linking the man in the brown suit and his apparent tube station victim to the murder of a mystery woman whose body is found in a house for let, the unfortunate rental property the only apparent commonality between the eclectic trio. An American movie actress, best known for playing dumb blondes, is Scotland Yard's prime suspect when her husband, Lord Edgware, is murdered.

The great detective, Hercule Poirot, digs deeper into the case. While Miss Marple is on vacation in a luxurious Caribbean resort, a fellow guest confides he has evidence that another resident of the hotel is an unscrupulous serial murderer but is poisoned before he can reveal his identity to her. Hercule Poirot attends a dinner party in which one of the guests clutches his throat and suddenly dies. The cause seems to be natural until another party with most of the same guests produces another corpse.

Lady Eileen 'Bundle' Brent a pert, aggressive young aristocrat insinuates herself into a series of murders, stolen state secrets, and a mysterious secret society. An American computer expert meets a distraught old lady on a train and she tells him that a homicidal maniac is stalking her quiet little village. During a murder hunt game at a country house, to which Hercule Poirot is invited as an "expert", a real murder occurs.

Agatha Christie's husband-and-wife sleuthing team take on a series of short whodunit mysteries. When Miss Marple reports witnessing a murder through the window of a passing train, the police dismiss her as a dotty spinster when no trace of the crime can be found. In this TV movie, a classic mystery is updated and relocated to a glamorous world of London socialites and secret agents, introducing two unique and compelling investigators and taking us through to the highest corridors of power.

An American woman is getting involved in a diamond theft in South Africa. Knowing perfectly this is not and extraordinary movie, I have liked it anyway. I find it especially light even sweet I have been loving the book very much which is far better than the movie but I think every woman will like the romantic female zimbalist leading the film, though seeing the movie imagination has to work a little bit further.
