The authors begin by reviewing modern veterinary acupuncture, with emphasis on education available. They make note that current public perception is that acupuncture works, as many people have had personal or second hand experience themselves let alone their pets.
A review of safety of acupuncture does point out the need for a knowledge-based practice of acupuncture, as accidents can occur in untrained hands — although rare.
