TAKE ME HOME is a story about a woman, Claire, who returns home to Sanctuary, West Virginia in the hopes of repairing a strained relationship with her sister, who is struggling to raise two children in a difficult marriage while suffering the effects of Lyme disease. But Claire has other reasons for coming home, and soon she finds herself secretly sharing those reasons with a battered, physically abused horse that a local stable owner has rescued--a horse that stable owner claims is Claire's "whisper horse," for they've formed a special bond.
Claire, at first a skeptic, nonetheless cannot keep away from the stable--or the veterinarian, Tim, who is determined to save the poor creature. Tim--a tall and physically impressive man-- has his own reasons for being in Sanctuary, WV, and the developing relationship is hotter than you can imagine! Every time Tim is on stage the book practically gave off sparks in my hands. This book has that fabulous mix of deep emotional intimacy and incredible sexual heat that's so hard to find. I've read it twice already. Love love loved it! Karen Talley Top Contributor: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase.
This is a series about "whisper horses. Actually, animals especially dogs have the ability to provide companionship for the lonely, listen to a person's troubles without being judgmental, and give unconditional love to their human without asking anything but love in return. As in these stories of rescue horses and their humans who "whisper" their problems to them, many shelter animals are waiting for a chance to do the same thing for the lucky human who will take them home and love them. Claire has taken a leave of absence from her job in New York City to return home to help care for her sister who has Lyme disease.
She is still recovering from a mentally abusive marriage and is introduced to a racehorse who has been horribly abused.
She helps in the horse's recovery and tells it all her problems. Tim who is the veterinarian helping in the horse's treatment. There is an instant attraction between the two of them, but secrets on both sides keep them apart. The story is a good one with a plot that keeps moving at a rapid pace.
All of the characters are believable and the setting is wonderful. There are a couple of minor things that are a little off. One being that Dr. Tim was going to take the horse back to his surgery to put it down. It isn't done like that. But my real complaint was the amount of sex in the book.
I am not one who wants all books to be sex free. If the story is good, it doesn't matter to me if there is sex in it or not. But there was TOO much sex in this one and it interrupted the flow of the story. I got tired of flipping through the "action" to find where the story line picked up again. And, I really didn't like where some of the sex happened.
Some readers will find the sexual situations in this book offensive. Definitely an adult book, the premise is great and the characters have their own personalities, that are so different. Claire Parker lived for art as a critic she worked in one of the prestigious galleries in Manhattan, along with her husband.
When she went through an ugly divorce and he claimed that he had made all the decisions on the art they collected, she was left with very little. When she returned to Sanctuary, West Virginia it was to help her sister who had a medical condition, and try to mend their relationship. Her one pleasure was riding and considering all she had been through the stable owner who rapidly became a friend suggested that she find a Whisper Horse to listen to her problems. Claire is doubtful but willing to humor Sharon.

She is mildly interested when she meets the new Vet Dr. Tim Arbuckle and the both enjoy the art of flirting. Tim is recovering from the death of his wife and neither of them are ready for more.
Between the whisper horse, the art gallery and an amazing painting owned by Claire, Tim's feelings about his wife's death and Claire's sister there is a lot going on and Ms. Herkness handles all of it deftly and involves the reader in a compelling way. It begins with Ever explaining to her best friend Haven, that she is now immortal. Ever basically spends the whole book feuding with Haven about her new found immortality, and about Roman.
Haven does not believe that Roman tried to kill her. And of course, Ever is still trying to get Roman to give her the antidote, while trying to fight a binding spell gone wrong which accidently binds her to Roman instead of the reverse.

But as each book progressed and I saw the changes in the characters and the intensity of the plot line and drama, I really grew to love it. Home Life Business Free eBook. The Industrial Revolution, supercharged by the development of steam-driven cybernetic Engines, is in full and drastic swing. Although I would like to say that I am finished with this series, sadly I cannot finish it until the end because I must know what happens in the end..
She becomes obsessed with Roman as a result and can't even be in proximity of him without freaking out. Oh, and then there is Jude who learns who he was in his past lives, learns about the immortals, and screws things up in a big way. I have loved the series so far and was anxiously awaiting this book in the series in hopes of getting some resolution to the whole Damen and Ever "curse".
If your expecting a resolution to that particular dilemma in this book, you will be disappointed. I was very hopeful as I was nearing the end of the book as to how it looked like things were going to be resolved, but sadly, it didn't turn out as I expected. It did not care for how things were left between Ever and Haven, or how things were "resolved?? I think having Ever and Damen not be able to be "together" through now the 4th book has drawn it out a little too long. By the time the series draws to an end, will we ever get to see them happy together?
Will Ever ever catch a break??? I felt very depressed at the end of the book. Ever lost her best friend in a manner of speaking and was so close to having it all to just have it ripped from her in the end I will still read the next one, but I really hope things end on a happier note. Really feeling Jude at the moment. When I first started this series, I really liked it, but didn't think I would love it. But as each book progressed and I saw the changes in the characters and the intensity of the plot line and drama, I really grew to love it.
In this book you watch as Ever deals with her mistakes in magick and battling the "darkness" within her. You also see an inevitable and formidable enemy emerging in Haven as she dives deeper into her relationship with Roman and her newfound abilities as an Immortal. This is the book where Ever matures and through all the hardships she has faced, and the demons she's battling with now, you see her strength as she tries to overcome it all.
If anything, Alyson's writing has always been a plus throughout the whole series as she tells her stories in great depth without boring the reader. You get a very vivid picture of the scene and characters that makes you delve into the story eagerly. She definitely leaves your heart pounding at times of distress, piques your curiosity with mysteries of the past, and touches your heart with the love and intimacy that Ever and Damen share.
Also, I am really enjoying the love triangle between Ever, Damen, and Jude. As a definite Ever and Damen fan, I found myself, at times, swaying towards Jude because he is really a great guy who you'll see truly loves Ever. All of their histories are so deeply entwined, it really makes you wonder who Ever is truly supposed to be with.
Dark Flame is an engrossing tale of darkness and strength that will have you wondering if Ever can truly overcome it all before it's too late. If you've loved the series up until now, then this book will not disappoint you, in fact, it will make you jump for the next book, Night Star which is what I did. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. As the other reviews state, the book kind of drags out.
It seems like nothing ever moves forward. Damon is this perfect boyfriend, but Ever is a horrible girlfriend. At times you want to throw the book across the room because of her mistakes. She even admits that she knows she is betraying Damon, yet she seems not to really care. I was hoping something great would happen in this book to keep me going, but it just seems like a lot of small problems that lead to bigger problems. It kind of dragged on, and I got bored at parts. There is no half star to my knowledge.
I guess it is OK if you don't have high hopes for it. For anyone who has read the beginning of this series you know that Damen and Ever are trying to move on to spend the rest of forever together, literally since they're both immortals. In this book, Ever is overcome by strong feelings for Roman and must find a why to break free of the spell before she loses Damen.
This book barely progresses from the last and while her struggle is powerful in this book it still doesn't make up for the fact that NOTHING has changed. Although I would like to say that I am finished with this series, sadly I cannot finish it until the end because I must know what happens in the end.. This story was good as far as stories go but I'm dissapointed that it didn't change much. I've been through the entire series now and I like just about every book except the last only because of the way it was laid out.
