Let's just say that I was not disappointed with this page volume chock full of techniques, philosophy, and drills for golfers looking to enhance their often much-overlooked mental game. Not only are techniques efficiently described throughout each easy-to-read chapter, but the athlete is basically told how to immediately begin applying them to their game. This is where I find Mental Toughness Training for Golf different from other sport psychology books I have read in the past-it's very straightforward and applicable in an immediate sense; athletes don't have to spend copious amounts of time analyzing their stroke or what to do next in the process of reading.

One of my favorite lines in the whole book is "play golf, not golf swing". Some of my favorite parts and features of Bell's book include: I believe modeling, especially from the top, is a powerful thing. A running collection of quotes from all kinds of sources from Socrates to the Lee Trevino, to Homer Simpson. There's something in there for everyone.

I have read at least 25 books on the subject and can say that Dr. Bells book is by far the clearest and most succinct that I have come across. We have learned it is very important to have FUN at what your doing and along with winning comes failure. Bell's "Mental Toughness Training for Golf" is a book a person might think is golf only, but you get into it and much of it will help you with so much more. Bell uses help the reader "see" the chapters and get a much better feel of where the author is coming from. His experience and knowledge of not only the game, but the psychology of it and sports in general , gives him in inside track on how to tap into the reader's possible needs. Bell does an excellent job with his quotes usage as well.

This book is one that, although titled for the game of Golf, can help with any sport the reader might play or just enjoy. It is a great read for life skills as well. Bell does a fantastic job drawing a connection with sports psychology and how it relates with dealing with a person's life.

Rob Bell has written an excellent primer on the mental approach to golf. The book is concise, well written, but most importantly it is full of practical insights and tips to take the lessons from the book to the practice range and subsequently to the golf course. There are a number of drills, both physical and mental, that are brought out in the book and this sets this book apart from other mental game books. Rob emphasizes making your practice count by making it more stressful than actual competition and gives you exact ways to make this happen.

I think any level golfer who is trying to improve their game can benefit from this book, but everyone who competes in any level of competition would be helped by the insights and lessons that are presented here. As an aside, I have worked with Dr. Bell personally and he helped me take my game to the proverbial next level, which for me was from local club competitions to competing at the state championship level. This book reminded me of the things I've done and have yet to do to achieve my goals in golf.

This is a fun book that is easy to read and provides a great deal of practical advice. Rob presented many thoughts on becoming mentally tough, applied to golf. He makes common sense, and illustrates how mental golf is. His recommendations are helping me improve my performance, and enjoy the game more. He included vignettes and quotes that I found a little beside the point, so I moved quickly past them.

Overall, a good read and a very helpful guide. This is a great book and I really like how Dr. Bell presented the material.
