You might know from my review of Hide and Seek, that Aimee Laine's gift for verbalizing beautiful romance leaves me speechless The love she is able to describe is pure fairy-tale and sweeps you off your feet.

Her leading ladies are the consummate balance of tough yet tender, confident yet unsure, world-wise yet unjaded. Loyal and brave, she's the perfect protagonist. Wyatt is truly melt-worthy; he's heroic, smart and honorable. The entire book is populated with amazing, well-developed protagonists. You care about the whole cast, not merely the mcs, and I suspect each of these players to have the spot light in future installments. The world building is perfect.

I love the creativity that has gone into developing these human shape shifters called Mimics. The Mimic history and personal histories of the characters were expertly unfolded throughout the book adding the the mystery and suspense. I would definitely recommend this book to folks interested in the paranormal world. It is a fresh new idea that is quite intriguing and enjoyable to read. I do have to add the caveat that the whole premise of this world is much better understood and a much better read having read book one first and I do not see this as a standalone.

So pick up book one and then dive right into Surrender. I requested this book from the author to read and review and it was provided to me with a request for my honest opinion without any compensation whatsoever, other than the joy of reading a new book. In Surrender we continue getting to know the entire gang we first met in book 1, Little White Lies, b Genre: In Surrender we continue getting to know the entire gang we first met in book 1, Little White Lies, but the focus is squarely on Lilly and Cael. Lilly is a unique character; she's vulnerable and gentle and more than a bit unsure of herself. Throughout the book we get to understand the reasons behind her insecurities and, even though she's not your typical kick-butt heroine, you can't help but absolutely adore her.

She is strong in a quiet, subtle way and has admirable courage. Cael is this steady and smoldering rock. He's obviously very much in love with Lilly we saw that in book 1 and it takes some time to understand why he's been "just a friend" for so long. I'm struggling for words here He's her best friend: He deeply loves her: And --again-- wow, Ms. Laine, how do you manage to verbalize love so well?!?

The book barely begins and someone's grabbed Lilly! Craziness is afoot and the plot twists and turns like the Amazon River. There's conspiracy and questionable intentions. You just don't know who Lilly can trust! I do want to note that though there's Lilly's abusive past and a missing teen girl as central components to this story, it never gets too dark for those of us who don't do truly dark and scary stuff.

The ending is so, so, sooooo good! There's so many good things there and then there's some cliff hanging that makes you hungry for book 3. It's pretty clear who book 3 will be about, but I'll leave you in suspense. This isn't your typical, "oh so pretty" cover. Nonetheless, how could you not be intrigued and pick this book right up?!?

Her Mimics are not only interesting but unusual in the paranormal fiction area. They can change to look like anyone, or anything, with differing abilities per person. And there are enemies, people who want to know what the Mimics are and how they do things.

And they are not beyond doing great harm to do it. And she wants to trust, especially Cael, but even that trust is hard for her. Surrender is a beautifully written, well edited, tight and exciting read.

Unfortunately the ability has some disadvantages, as Lily discovers when her current face causes a case of mistaken identity which will force her to face the past she has tried so hard to forget. Cael Alderidge would go to the ends of the earth to keep Lily safe, and with a Dangerous Mimic wanting her for unknown reasons; Cael must be willing to do anything to keep the woman he loves safe. This book throws you straight into the As a Mimic, albeit a weak one, Lily Crane can look however she wants.

This book throws you straight into the action from the very first page and you will be hooked until the very last. Aimee Laine definitely has the recipe for a very good paranormal romance; surrender has a perfect balance of action, romance, intrigue and mystery. The characters have an incredible amount of depth to them, especially Lily.

As a mimic her powers are very weak but she has an inner strength and determination that is remarkable considering her tortured past. Cael is the perfect love interest: The secondary characters are just as amazing, my favourite was Maggie and I am hoping we will get to see a lot more of her in a future book. The twists and turns in the plot kept me guessing throughout and there were points in the book where I could barely stand the suspense of wanting to know what Roy was up to.

Surrender is unique, exciting, full of action, love and loyalty. I love that Aimee Laine threw us right into the action right from the start. The action keeps going from beginning to end. Surrender has really great characters that really helped push this story along. As a mimic, Lily Crane was shown as weak and damaged.

Within the book we see how Lily is saved form any problems she has. Unfortunately the way Lily looks causes a case of mistaken identity; thus the story begins. Throughout this n Surrender is unique, exciting, full of action, love and loyalty. Throughout this novel we get to see Lily grow and become a strong woman who can make her own decisions in her life. Cael Aldridge, her best friend, was secretly in love with lily Crane. I really loved how the relationship between Lily and Cael developed.

It was nice to get to see everything right from the beginning. This is a great love story that will keep you engaged from the start. I was only able to read this book a little bit at a time and I looked forward to every chapter. Surrender is a triple threat, action, adventure, and romance. If you're a fan of the paranormal and characters who grow, this is a must read. Aug 29, Shana ReadingVixen rated it liked it. This sequel to "Little White Lies" was ok.

Not earth-shattering, but ok. Honestly, the first book was better. Lily appeared in the first book as well, and was a little more entertaining and engaging than in her own book. Unfortunately, she comes across as insecure about her own mimicking abilities, which is understandable, coming from her tortured past. But she never grew a backbone until towards the end of the book, and even then, why she decided to grow a spine at THAT particular time, especial This sequel to "Little White Lies" was ok.

But she never grew a backbone until towards the end of the book, and even then, why she decided to grow a spine at THAT particular time, especially after everything she went through, just astounds me. I just wonder how could he fall for someone so frail. Lily's like a hothouse flower; if you put it in any type of stressful environment, the flower appears to just wilt away.

Unfortunately, Lily's no different. It takes the entire group from the first book James, Charley, Wyatt, Cael, and Maggie to get Lily out of the situation she's in, but they finally do it. The premise of the book was pretty interesting, and you learn more about mimics and their genetic makeup and what happens after their th year yes, they live that long.

That information kept me reading until the last page. Overall, the book was decent. Again, I do wish Lily was stronger, but again, with her past, I could see why she was so "weak," for lack of a better word. But what happened to her in the past should have made her much stronger than she was, and make her determined to NEVER have it happen to her again, instead of going through anything similar like she did in the book.

Lily has been free from her captors for 40 years. I didn't read the first book but understood the story. I didn't love this book. I thought it was okay and liked the twist on shape shifting. The ones in this group shape shift or Mimic humans mostly though some can shift into animals. Their talents reach several different ranges from shifting into almost anything to barely being able to change their hair. This is Lily's book and Lily has been free from her captors for 40 years. This is Lily's book and I like Lily. I like seeing people that have been almost destroyed emotionally and physically fight their way back to be strong.

In the first book Lily was used for experiments and this book she has to fight that past again. She learns more about herself and her talents. She also tries to figure out what to do with Cael. Here is the part that I can't believe I'm going to say. I didn't connect with Cael at all. He was just blah to me.

I didn't feel any passion with them even though they say it's been brewing for 40years. I found myself wanting to get on with trying to solve this mystery of why Roy is so fascinated with Lily. I loved the other character though even the kids. I want to know what happens with Maggie and James and the children. That seemed more interesting than Cael. I get that he has been overprotective and they wanted him to give Lily room but he almost step out of the entire book giving her space.

I'm still not quite sure what happened with the blending in the end, but I don't see why Cael couldn't blend with Lily, eventually he will have to blend or outlive her. Nikki said: I think Aimee Laine is becoming one of my faves. I loved her Hide ' Little White Lies' is the first book in the Mimic of Rune Series. If you meet the man .

Aimee is a romantic at heart and a southern transplant with a bit of the accent but not a whole bunch. Then again, she shouldn't need a calculato Aimee is a romantic at heart and a southern transplant with a bit of the accent but not a whole bunch. Wyatt has a dirty job to do and doesn't like to trust people he doesn't know well.

It's as if he's known her all his life. Despite their very confused past together Wyatt and Charley have to work together to complete Wyatt's mission. They are drawn even more closely together when personal tragedy strikes Charley and Wyatt's skills can come in handy. They have a lot of history to work through if they have any chance of making a future.

Little White Lies can easily be the first in a series. Charley and her family really grew on me throughout the book. It was clear that they had to stick together and that they'd have each other's back if it was ever needed. Cael and Lily were my favorite secondary characters and I can't wait to hear their story. It did make me understand Wyatt better because I was just as lost as he was!

Laine does a good job of reiterating all of the facts and rules without being repetitive. It's like a refresher course when you need it. Eventually it all clicked into place and ended up being a breath of fresh air to my paranormal experience. Laine creates sexual tension from the beginning and doesn't let up for a long while.

It added to the book and I found myself really enjoying that aspect of it. While the story was original and I really enjoyed it there were some disappointments too. There was so much going on in this book with so many characters that it was distracting from the main couple. If you're a regular reader of my reviews, you know that I enjoy secondary characters a great deal.

A lot of secondary characters plus a lot of action going on really detracted from the romance for me. My only other complaint is the mastermind behind the whole suspense plot. It certainly wasn't who I thought it would be. It seemed too much for me to believe but it takes all kinds to make our world go round.

Overall, if you're into paranormals with shifters of some sort with a romantic suspense subplot, you should really look into this book. I look forward to any more books Laine writes in this series! Apr 05, Denna rated it liked it. This is a little harder novel to review than most of those that catch my attention by the blurb. I love romance novels about shifters and jumped at the chance when I saw this one offered the promise of something new in the genre.

I want the text to grab me right from the first sentence and not let go. Big maybe on whether or not This is a little harder novel to review than most of those that catch my attention by the blurb. So, with that said, I struggled with a connection at the beginning of Little White Lies. I kept hoping Charley would make things clearer through her part and it was very slow to come about. The writing by Aimee Laine is fantastic, the characters well drawn, the action fast paced. The new take on shapeshifters was fun, the rules governing their lives interesting.

It is difficult to tell you my reasons why here without giving away everything. The explanations given about the shifters made suspension of disbelief easy. Not all fantasy writers can make a story like this so enjoyable. By that I mean I wanted to be there, experience it firsthand, not just read about it. This would have been rated five stars with a less confusing start. Great novel by a talented new author and I, for one, look forward to reading more in the near future. I'd definitely recommend reading it: Apr 05, Denise rated it it was amazing.

My nutbunny brain for whatever reason did not connect the two reads. Well as I was reading book two I realized something was missing and sure enough it was book one. I started reading Little White Lies and have to say it kept me glued to the pages from beginning to the end.

I absolutely loved it. I loved the whole premise of the mimic and am still pondering whether or not this is genetic or supernatural in origin. Charley is awesome and a gal I would want on my side any day. Wyatt has just the right amount of hunk appeal and he is genuinely a good person, which makes him even more appealing. The entire cast of characters is fun; they are loyal and strong and willing to get in there to get the job done while watching each other's back and definitely a good crowd to hang with. I enjoyed the writing style and while all is not clear at the beginning of the book each layer gets gently peeled back to reveal the meat of the story and a real tasty read.

I am looking forward to reading more and immediately completed book two after finishing this installment. I highly recommend reading Little White Lies before proceeding with the series, as so much laying of the foundation of this world is in this book and it would be a shame to miss one little bit.
