He is easily the best author wrting today and anyone who misses any of his books has missed a part of a life most of only dream about. All of Ted Kerasote's books are must reads. Great book but way too short; it is only pages and it is a small book, not very many words on a page, unlike Merle's Door and Pukka's Promise which are both plus pages and a larger format bigger pages. Finished it in under 3 hours.
Ted Kerasote is a great writer and his descriptions of events and animals and places are delightful, but this book left me wanting more even though the trip he was describing was only two weeks long. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful.
Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Kerasote has a way with words that transcends simply being informative to actually entertaining his reader.
He is not afraid to look inside his own skull and poke around in there exploring the little nooks and crannies that many folks would not expose to the light of day. In that approach he gives the reader keen insight into what makes him tick. And those impulses turn out to be present in our own minds also.
He makes us see how being unique does not prevent us from being an integral part of the larger picture as well. If you enjoy Ted Kerasote for Merle's Door and Pukka, the Pup after Merle, you may think he writes mainly about his experiences with dogs. However, his ability to transport you to the Northern reaches of this continent is very real.

As an elderly female I have never been a "real" outdoors person. Hate camping, never downhill skiied. So why do I love to read the books of Mr. Because he is one of the most lyrical writers I know of.
He can make the most mundane activity interesting. And his ruminations on life and living are priceless. To say nothing of all that one can learn from him. Don't think many would sell at that price. Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of Ted Kerasote. This is a short book about his experience out on the Horton River with his friend who brings a remote phone. This is a story filled with adventure, romance, mystery and justice. Writer Toby Neal has created multi-faceted characters that we can identify with as they explore their own feelings amidst the carnage that humans perpetuate upon each other. Her characters are strong within their frailties, and consistently strive to serve justice to those that have been taken advantage of.
After finishing this latest installment in the Wired series featuring Sophie Ang, I look forward to the next intriguing adventure of crime solving amidst the lovely islands of Hawaii, or wherever her adventures take Sophie. Wired Justice continues the story of Sophie and her sidekick furbaby, Ginger. I am a huge fan of Toby Neal's writing, and Sophie is one of my favorite characters.
She is fascinating, complex, vulnerable, prone to depression, and kicks criminal butt in a fierce way. When we first met Sophie in the Lei Crime Series which I highly recommend she was working for the FBI in technology, but drawn to the vigilante side of justice. After struggling with whether to work on with the law or alongside the Wired Justice continues the story of Sophie and her sidekick furbaby, Ginger. After struggling with whether to work on with the law or alongside the law, Sophie made the leap to private security, and then to seeking justice on her own.
In Sophie, Neal has created a character with a tortured past, whose struggles to fit in and to be "normal" are experiences to which many of us can relate. In Wired Justice, Sophie just wants to take a vacation from all the violence in her past Sophie also is seeking respite from past relationships, and the appearance of her partner and potential love interest, Jake, does not help at all, throwing Sophie into an emotional tangle. You'll have to read the book to find out what happens, and I highly recommend you do. With as complex a plot as ever written by Neal, the story is fast-paced from the start and will keep you reading long into the wee hours of the morning.
As with all her novels, Neal's strong sense of culture and location help you to feel you are right there with the characters, in the middle of the tale, sweating on the edge of the Big Island's volcano, hiking through the forests, and dreaming on the edge of the Pacific Ocean.

Toby did not disappoint. I love Sophie and her naivety but ultimately she is uber smart, strong, fearless, and fiercely determined to be independent. But no matter what she tries to do or where she seems to go, trouble seems to follow her.

Fast-paced adventure from start to finish! I was provided an ARC of this book by the author. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own and without influence. Why does a good book have to end!!! Another wonderful day spent with Sophie , Jake and all of Toby Meals other characters. I know I just will not be able to walk away. I have been an addicted fan since the very first book. It does not hurt that they are set in the Hawaiian islands. But that alone would never keep me coming back book after book. The characters are like friends if not Ohana. Toby has the ability to pull you into the story.
Her deep knowledge of the locations shows in the details that bring her books to life. Now for me begins the long wait for May and the next in the Wired series. What a journey for Sophie! Trying to relax and take vacation time she stumbles upon something quite serious. Sophie and Jake end up working a case together with HPD and work through a ton of evidence. Ginger, Sophie's dog, apparently has a keen nose and was incredibly helpful.
While working their case Jake and Sophie are struggling with feelings, casual or more? That is the big question. I found I really liked Jake here, not just the muscly beefcake but a sweet and protective man. Sophie has lot What a journey for Sophie! Sophie has lots to work through in her life, it would be wonderful to see her with a romantic partner.
Highly recommended that you read the series from the beginning, each book has a new crime but the personal journey continues. My copy was given from the author and my review written voluntarily. Jake with Security Solutions, dealing with the parents of their lost daughter. Are they dealing with a serial killer, or as the authorities are saying they have a lot of missing kids on the island, but what about the hole with bodies. The plot is captivating, puzzling. A beautiful young girl, and no one has seen.
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion. I could not get enough of the Lei Crime series and I felt the same way about this book as I finished it. I loved the way that Toby brought the Big Island to life, and I got to revisit "my Island" even before returning there.
I enjoyed the fast paced action and intrigue of this book, it was full of twists and turns. I enjoyed having old friends come back, Alika, Dr. Wilson, even the Ghost, except for the Chang family. I am excited to read the next one and find out who Sophie ends up with Wired Justice is the 6th book in this series. I have read then all and enjoyed them so much.
