It flowed well, and was an easy read. I read it in a few hours, so it captured my attention. I was a little confused with the book starting out with an "Excerpt from the Book of the Dead" since I didn't know what The Book of the Dead was, but once I figured that out, all was ok. I actually went back to read that part again. Maybe I'm just a little thick headed: If you like a good "paranormal" book like I do, that is I like Warlord's Secret, not as much as the "Damian" series, but it was good.
If you like a good "paranormal" book like I do, that is different than your normal vampire, warewolf, blah, blah, blah book, Lizzy doesn't disappoint! I need to read Katie's Hellion next and I am pretty excited about it! Jun 21, Bukcrz rated it liked it Shelves: I had high hopes for this book but it ended up as a very generic paranormal read.
Worse part is that I can't connect with the ultra "I don't trust anyone but me" heroine. Yes she has a traitor advisor I get that. But she also has a very trusted guy of the same rank so she should be able to know the difference. In the end, I don't like how mechanical this heroine's actions are. The rest of the characters are better than her.
I was actually more invested with secondary characters than the main cha I had high hopes for this book but it ended up as a very generic paranormal read. I was actually more invested with secondary characters than the main characters. The created world with its court politics and magic is interesting but then like I said above, so are most paranormal read.
Apr 25, sraxe rated it did not like it Shelves: The reader is pretty much thrown into what feels like the middle of a novel with little to no character development or world building. The pacing was terrible and feelings and motivations of characters were so erratic and most everything felt confusing because it was all over the place.
I also highly dislike insta-love so this was a definite turn-off for me. Vara, one of the characters, even points out that it's been only a week! First let me say, I love Lizzy Ford's book! The characters and worlds that she creates are original and exciting. While often the first chapter or two are developmental and confusing I usually have to reread them once into the story, it's a page turner. The Warlord's Secret is no exception.
I did find the story jumped around at times making it a little hard to follow but I had a hard time putting it down. I was very happy at the end to see that there is potential for the story to continue! May 31, Jill Hunter rated it liked it. Considering this book is described as a fantasy romance, there was very little romance in it.
Only two spots and they were brief. Prefect for the romance light types like me. The story is strong and characters well described and believable. I prefer my kissing with a-lot of killing thrown in, so this book worked well for me. Another great book by Lizzy Ford. It started off a little slow, but quickly built up speed. By the end of the book, I couldn't put it down.
Throughout the book, it keeps you in suspense as to who exactly is the "good" guy and you sometimes don't even know who to root for. Many twists and turns that keep you on your toes as you're reading. I loved the ending and how you didn't know if they would really succeed at all.
Apr 30, Ginelle Blanch rated it really liked it. I know that this was meant as a stand alone but, I really with that Ms. The ending turned out to be really good, I had been a bit concerned for a moment and am still interested in knowing what becomes of Sirian and the demons I don't understand the romance in this book which is crucial to accepting the plot I think. Why do they even like each other? Because they do some things for each other that you have to at least care for the other person to take that risk.
But there is nothing between them or at least nothing was shown to make me feel as though there were. I just don't get it. Jan 15, Ashley Soliday rated it liked it Shelves: Truth be told this was my least favorite book of Lizzy Ford's I have read and I've read a lot! I can't really say what it was about the book that I didn't care for it just wasn't for me but by no means am I saying it was a bad book. I would tell you if you have read Lizzy's books in the past and liked them give this one a shot too and you might find that you like it.
Dec 17, Melissa ownsbey rated it it was amazing. Oct 24, Amalia Kollarou rated it it was ok. It wasn't what I expected. The story was promising but the filing I got was like all the facts took place in 3 days in a small area not in a kingdom. The protagonists where not so powerful as I was expecting to bee due to there roles and they really fell in love VERY quickly. At the end the story closed so quickly and I felt like the author was in a harry to finish it. Jan 01, Ruba rated it really liked it.
I had high expectations after reading a preview that the over hyped immortal realm is explored in this part. I felt a little disappointed after completing this book though.
But it was a lot different than the 2nd and 3rd part of this series. And the story goes very slow.
Feb 09, Debbie rated it really liked it. Got this book as a free Kindle download. Finished it within 24 hours. Once you start, you don't want to stop.
Hope there's a sequel. Love the characters - Rissa and Taran. Want to know more about their love story. Rissa is an amazing female clan leader. Jun 01, Amber Griffith rated it liked it. The village on the border of Tiyan and the neighboring kingdom was marked by a small black circle on the rough parchment map. The Western Cliffs - -which formed one of Tiyan's natural defenses - -were marked in yellow, and the violent ocean edging the cliffs in blue.
If I believed this route dangerous, I wouldn't send you this way," he replied. She ignored the voice of the creature coiled restlessly within her. This is all that concerns me. Before the last full moon, you never desired to visit the villages, or even to venture outside our walls. If you left the war to me, as your father did, we - -" "I must keep our alliances strong by delivering the water from the Springs! I've chosen the safest route there is, but you're in danger no matter what route you choose.
We're nearly at war! I will take the magic waters to them and send word that the Warlord of Tiyan is confident in our triumph over the enemy. The last time she entrusted the Springs to Sirian, they ended up in the hands of her enemies. She stared at the map for a long moment as the awakening demon shifted within her.
Tendrils of coldness stretched from its home within her chest, testing her strength before subsiding into stillness once more. Rissa shuddered and released her breath. But for how long?
Unfortunately, Taran was too blinded by vengeance to see it. First let me say, I love Lizzy Ford's book! Feb 09, Debbie rated it really liked it. Jan 13, Kasey rated it it was ok Shelves: Her father ruled a full thirty summers before the demon spoke to him and drove him mad. The book's awkward exposition infodump establishes that only boys of a certain age can contain the demon.
Sirian's sharpness and ingenuity in battle had kept Tiyan safe for years. He'd never been affectionate, but he had never failed to support her father when he needed his most trusted advisor.
