The Knowing is a keeper. I'd never read L. Charles before but picked this book from one of those cent ebook sales that was running within the last few weeks. I have a pile of print and Kindle books in my "to be read" pile, but after a "glimpse" at the first couple pages of THE KNOWING, I got sucked into the story and stayed up far too late on a couple nights so I could see what was coming next. I finished this morning, and had to tear myself from the preview of the next story in the series!

Charles does a terrific job with conveying emotion, not just of the protagonist it's written in first person but of the other characters as well. I fell in love with the mother and father, wanted Whitney for my own friend, and wanted to follow Nia and Trace into the future. One person found this helpful. I have the softcover version because I'm a "real" book person, and I am simply loving this book!

Charles has created a character I care about, and placed her in the perfect location. The suspense is "killing me", so you'll have to excuse me while I go finish the book! This is a Really good, fast, fascinating read. Don't know much about Vodoun, and I'm enjoying the bits of psychic energy I'm picking up. I'm especially glad to know there is a second book in this trilogy! Loved this fast-paced, suspenseful, funny and completely entertaining book. The characters, especially Nia DeBrie, spring alive and fully-formed from the pages, moving into your home and head as they tell their story.

Nia grabbed me by the heart and throat from the first page.

Then the later books in the Black Dog series pushed Shaw, the creepy guy in that Thierry series, into something of a larger than a cameo role but barely role, and I was able to push down the nausea he generated in me. As I read, I experienced her fears, her worries and her joys, exulting with her at the end. Charles has a unique voice, as unique as her characters. I reread some of her descriptions because they were so lyrical, poems in the midst of a novel. This was my first of her books, but it won't be the last! I just bought The Calling and can't wait to immerse myself in it. I have never written a review, and not sure what to say so here goes. Sorry old love the stories all of them 4. I seldom pay over.

Thank you for a great way to help forget pain, I get into your stories and it's almost as if I were there. Thank you again Alice. I read all three books, this is the first of the three. It's a good story about three women all born the same year during the sign of Gemini. They all receive a "special gift", a power of some sort on their 35th birthday. I wasn't sure I'd like the series because I'm usually not interested in voodoo but it's not a big part of the books, only referred to. Nice combination of mystery and romance.
