There's no doubt that Tori is winning the game of life. She's inspired millions of women to stick two fingers up at convention with her bestselling memoir, and she has the perfect relationship to boot. But Tori Bailey has been living a lie. Everyone around her is getting married and having babies, but her long-term boyfriend won't even talk about getting engaged. And when her best friend Dee - her plus one, the only person who understands the madness - falls in love, suddenly Tori's in terrifying danger of being left behind.
When the world tells you to be one thing and turning thirty brings with it a loud ticking clock, it takes courage to walk your own path. It's time for Tori to practise what she's preached, but the question is: Everyone is raving about this summer's hottest book: I haven't been this obsessed with a book in years. It could be a life-changing read for many. Once a spirited, independent woman with a rebellious streak, her life has been forever changed by a tragic event twelve years ago.
Unable to let go of her grief, she finds solace in the silent company of the souls of her local Victorian cemetery and at the town's lido, where she seeks refuge underwater - safe from the noise and the pain. But a chance encounter with two extraordinary women - the fabulous and wise Kitty Muriel, a convent girl-turned-magician's wife-turned-seventy-something-roller-disco-fanatic, and the mysterious Sally Red Shoes, a bag lady with a prodigious voice - opens up a new world of possibilities, and the chance to start living again. There are three ways up to Castle View from the town of Castle Rock: Route , Pleasant Road, and the Suicide Stairs. Every day in the summer of twelve-year-old Gwendy Peterson has taken the stairs, which are held by strong if time-rusted iron bolts and zig-zag up the cliffside. At the top of the stairs, Gwendy catches her breath and listens to the shouts of the kids on the playground. From a bit farther away comes the chink of an aluminum bat hitting a baseball as the Senior League kids practice for the Labor Day charity game.
One day, a stranger calls to Gwendy: Come on over here for a bit. We ought to palaver, you and me. On his head is a small neat black hat. The time will come when Gwendy has nightmares about that hat Yet life in the small capital carries on as usual, despite the natural disaster, a shortage of coal and, in the outside world, the Great War grinding on. But that may not be enough to save her from a lethal cocktail of violence. I found Mrs Flood too cold towards her youngest daughter, who did everything for her in the house, so it was nice to see some tender moments between. It is a happy ending when Mrs Flood tells her about the call and how Angel just got back from theatre after the transplant. Great humour and wonderful plot. You are commenting using your WordPress.
