There were just a couple of things I didn't enjoy as much. Would not have happened. I understand that there might have been girls back then that didn't love dresses, but most of them probably wouldn't have thought about going out in pants, it was horrifying. Plus, if you've been raised in skirts, like Skye would have been, you probably do There was so many things I liked about this book, Skye, Will, the awesome adventure, and the strong faith message. Plus, if you've been raised in skirts, like Skye would have been, you probably don't even care for pants.
Kate being captain of a ship. Another one of those slap forehead moments. Overall, I did enjoy this book, I just wish the author had done a bit more research about girls of the time before she had written it, because those parts would have been easy to take out, or change without changing the storyline. Nov 24, Rachel Melton rated it really liked it. I was happy to read this book.
It was refreshing to say the least - a nice change of pace from my normal reading list. Since I read all the books at home and most all of the books in the children's section at the local library, I was forced to "upgrade" to the Young Adult section. Unfortunately, those books aren't as clean as I'd like, so I dropped them and resorted to a few books here and there. This however, was an interesting tale. Action, pirates, sub plots all-woven-intricately-into-the s I was happy to read this book.
Action, pirates, sub plots all-woven-intricately-into-the story, fair damsel in distress, handsome young guy to rescue her. It was classic, although probably geared for slightly younger readers. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it. Jan 06, Sarah Grace rated it liked it Shelves: Despite the fact that the story dragged on somewhat, the characters were shallow, and the writing was somewhat amateurish, it DID have one doozy of a plot twist! That my friends, was a plot twist to end all plot twists!
I literally stopped breathing for nearly 30 seconds. All that being said, this was an okay book, I probably won't read it again, and I probably will check out the next book in the series. Skye grew up in an orphanage, little more than a servant and About this book: Spiritual Content- Psalm 9: Negative Content- Minor cussing including: The overall romance was very clean, and the great faiths were a big plus!
The writing was well done, though some parts did seem a bit forced or stiff. I teared up at the prologue and that ending was great. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author. Mar 26, Jessica rated it liked it Shelves: I received this book and the rest of the series as a birthday present from a friend. To be honest, I both loved and hated this book.
In terms of the characters especially, I really enjoyed following them on their journey and learning new things about them. I loved the Authors writing, aside from her excessive use of the word "Finally" and the way she wove Christian values throughout the book was wonderful. The one thing I didn't like was the similarities with the "Pirates of the Caribbean" Disn I received this book and the rest of the series as a birthday present from a friend.
The one thing I didn't like was the similarities with the "Pirates of the Caribbean" Disney movies. Some of the similarities included the main character Skye being kidnapped by pirates after a raid on the port she lived in, the male hero she liked being named William will , a trip to Tortuga, and being marooned on an island. Some of the similarities I was able to overlook but I felt a bit disappointed. I opened up the book expecting to find a unique, Christian pirate book that would have me surprised and thrilled at every turn and I ended up feeling a bit of disappointment at how alike the plot was with the disney movies.
I kept reading hoping that it was just a few unintended similarities but they kept popping up. It wasn't until halfway through the book that the plotline took a turn. After that, I really enjoyed myself. The ending was especially good and I can't wait to read the next book. Aside from those few little things, I really liked this book and the Authors writing style. If I could have, I would have rated it more as a 4. I was a bit irked by the similarities with the movies as I said, but I loved everything else.
I'm apprehensively going to move on to the second book and am hoping that it will prove to be a more unique, and have a surprising plotline. As a side note to the author, who I know is on goodreads and probably looks over her reviews I like your writing itself, and the story, I was just hoping for a bit more creativity. Keep up the good work and thank you for writing a Christ-centered action book. I think this is something my brothers will enjoy reading also! View all 7 comments. Jun 24, Leanne rated it it was amazing. Becoming a orphan at a young age was very hard for Skylar McHenry.
She was treated more like a servant and shunned by almost everyone because she was a pirate's daughter. But even through a hard life Skye never lost hope in relying on her heavenly Father's care, and her friendship with Will. Who was a dear friend that she grew up with. But just when things start looking like they may get better, her world falls apart. One night the town is attacked with blasts from a ships cannon. And before Skye knows what is going on the pirates brake into the orphanage After being taken to their ship she discovers what they are after.
The cruel captain wants the location of the treasure hidden by her father. But telling him where it is would be braking the last promise she made to her father. But when the lives of the the people dearest to her are threatened she must do something. The Pirate Daughter's Promise is a wonderfully done book. When you think of books that have a message of faith in them pirate stories are probably not the first kind you think about.
But that is exactly what Molly Evangeline wrote. And I really enjoyed it! She worked the faith part into the story very nicely. And I really liked the way you could see the characters faith at work, instead of only hearing them talk about it. Yet at the same time the pirates were very realistic. There were some very exciting scenes, and all of the places the characters went felt very real. And there were some amazing surprises along the way that I never seen coming! This was a great book and I would love to read more stories from this author!
I received this book free from the author, Molly Evangeline, for my honest review. The opinions are my own. May 17, Tialla Rising rated it really liked it. This book takes readers on quite the adventure!
I truly enjoyed it. The main girl is kidnapped by pirates, a young man named Will fights to go after her, they stop at Tortuga, etc. While some might not like the close similarities, I really enjoyed it. It was fun, whimsical, daring, and entertaining. The story was engaging, and I found myself reluctant to put the book down.
There were many plot t This book takes readers on quite the adventure! There were many plot twists that I definitely did not expect — several which kept me on the edge of my seat. Other than Kate, the characters were pretty flat and lacking in development. Also, the POV was an issue in several scenes. I was often disoriented.
Even with the writing issues, I loved the storyline and thoroughly enjoyed this book. I recommend it to anyone who loves adventure, pirates, strong faith, clean morals, wholesome romance, and young love. Jul 22, Morgan-Britney Hawksley rated it liked it. I was looking forward to reading and reviewing this book very much.
I found out about it through a website for home schooled authors, and when I contacted the author about getting a copy, she offered to send me one for free. I enjoyed the story thoroughly. It had the perfect mix of adventure, faith and romance. I was very pleased with the romance in the story. I typically detest all romance in novels, but the author was careful not to overdo it.
I could tell the author tried h I was looking forward to reading and reviewing this book very much. I could tell the author tried hard to make it a rounded and enjoyable novel. I did have a few complaints though. I think the author could have chosen a more original story line, instead of going the way of fan fiction.
I didn't like how the main character did virtually no wrong. She always said and did the right thing. It is hard to identify with a character that is without any faults.
Also, the main character's name is Skylar, which is a more modern name, while all the other characters had names that fit the time period. Jul 18, Morgan rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: I loved this book! Molly is really good at creating likeable characters. She really gets you to care about what happens to them. I love the characters in Pirates and Faith. Skye is very brave and adventurous, but very feminine as well. Will is very chivalrous, something I really loved about him and also something missing from our cultu I loved this book! Will is very chivalrous, something I really loved about him and also something missing from our culture.
I also liked how Molly was able to create an exciting pirate story without making the pirates the good guys. Pirates are bad, and they are portrayed as such. The message was a wonderful one, that God always has a reason for things, whether we know what it is or not. I don't really have any criticisms to make, except maybe that there are only four books in the series I wish there were many more.
The Pirate Daughter's Promise has definitely made me into a Molly Evangeline fan and I strongly recommend it for everyone. Dec 05, Leah Good rated it liked it Shelves: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. William is an orphan, has never known his mother or father. Will he ever get the chance? I was pleased to be back with the loveable couple of this series, and watch their relationship unfold further,: Really liked meeting all the new characters as well. But I still had fun reading Every Tear. They seem to have depth every time, and stir my soul.
Bolster my courage to face the unknown. The characters of this series have a strong and genuine faith. So with some surprising revelations, lots of action, sweet reunions, and endearing characters, Every Tear continues this faith-filled, pirate-y adventure! Oh, and did I mention that there was a particularly delightful scene involved Will and Skye?
Looking forward to reading the next book in the series. It took me a while to get around to it as I had a lot of other things on my reading list. So it was with great anticipation that I sat down and finally read Every Tear. What I didn't like: My biggest complaint about this book was that it was too long for the story it contained.
Toward the middle, I found myself wanting to skip pages. The story seemed to be moving to slow. I also felt like some of the story was just a repeat of The Pirate Daughter's Promise in a different setting. What I loved about it: I loved seeing the characters I loved from the last book continue in this on.
Will and Sky being my two favorite. I loved what Molly did with their relationship.
She handled everything in such a godly way, it made me wish for more books like it. I also liked that this was an adventure story. There are too few adventure stories out there and those are my favorite kind. Overall, I think those that liked the first book will be pleased with the squeal, even with its minor flaws. The plot is more complex, the adventure is more intense, and the ending even more satisfying.
I loved getting to spend more time with old friends I love the James family, particularly Emma. Another thing I loved about Every Tear is how it reveals Will's history. I love backstories, so I really liked learning Will's. The plot is so complex and exciting there is hardly any downtime. There is practically always something happening. The emotions are intense, and I have to say, the bad guys make me really mad that's a good thing. Throughout the whole book, even and especially at the worst times, the characters always turn to God. Molly Evangeline weaves faith, romance, and adventure together into an amazing story for all ages.
It brought back original characters which is great because the characters came alive on the pages of the first book. Action packed on every page and once again the faith and love of Jesus this author gives these characters is wonderful. This book begins 2 years after the last one left off.
The beginning is well written and doesn't make you feel like you have missed out on a ton of the characters' lives. However, this book makes book 1 look like a joke when it comes to plot twists and action.
I was constantly surprised by what happened next, and it kept me at the edge of my seat for the most part. The book does bog down in a few places with too many details, but it is well worth the extra reading for the excitement.
