The author has a nice touch with dialogue and cross-talk, so each classmate character gets a chance to shine at various points in the story. This is fairly dry stuff, with a lot of clever and subtle wordplay, but there are also slapstick and antic moments.
As a consequence you get a little bit of everything for readers of different tastes and abilities, which makes the book appealing across the board. This book was very popular in Britain, having gone through numerous printings and having been serialized on BBC, so it's nice to have it available here in Kindle format.
