Good characters and all but with much the same story as the first book in the trilogy.
Aug 20, Samantha rated it really liked it. She's Summary from Goodreads: There's never been a more tempestuous scandal.. In the Heat of the Bite was an enjoyable read and I'm glad that I had the chance to pick it up. I didn't realize when I picked it up that it was the 2nd book in a trilogy and am happy to say that it never affected my enjoyment of the book. Rhiannon is a witch and part of a coven of other witches. She was a fun main character to read about as she had a lot of spunk to her even though she hasn't had the easiest life.
The romance that develops between Rhiannon and Matthew was unique and amusing as they face many different obstacles throughout the book. This book made me smile at times when I was reading it as it was just one of those books that you couldn't help but like. The main characters were good, the plot was different than a lot of similar books out there, and it was just a solid read.
The only problem that I had with it was Rhiannon's accent drove me a bit crazy at first. Now I'll admit right off the bat that this was a personal thing and didn't bother me by the end of the book. The beginning was a different story though until I got used to it. And while this wasn't my favorite read, I did find it to be a really good romance and a series that I want to read more of.
I definitely will be picking up the first book in this trilogy to see how everything all started: Recommended to fans of paranormal romance! A solid read with characters that I want to read more of. I was lucky enough to be sent this book for review by the publisher. Jul 26, Debbie rated it really liked it. I really do not know why I put off reading all of these great romance books that I've had on my shelves. They have all been so good and this one was certainly not a disappointment.
Matthew intrigued me when we first saw him in It Happened One Bite so I was excited to hear this book was focusing on him. He truly is a knight in shining armor even if he's left his armor back home but as is usual of our tortured heroes he feels that Rhiannon deserves better since he will never grow old and cannot pr I really do not know why I put off reading all of these great romance books that I've had on my shelves. He truly is a knight in shining armor even if he's left his armor back home but as is usual of our tortured heroes he feels that Rhiannon deserves better since he will never grow old and cannot provide her with children.
Rhiannon was also a joy to read. She has a total kick ass power to control the weather and it's funny to see her causing rain and thunder storms in her fits of temper. It's a good thing I don't have power like she does because it would be awfully tempting to send a few bolts of lightning at people who irritate me but she showed remarkable restraint. The chemistry between the two is sizzling and it was fun to watch the interplay between them as well as some of the supporting characters.
The three single Lycan brothers really do remind me of puppies romping around and getting themselves into all sorts of mischief. I can actually picture the silly smiles on their face as they wreak havoc. Just as a warning though there are a ton of characters that come up in the book and if you are like me and haven't read her previous series it can get a bit confusing.
I do want to go back and read about Dash and Cait and some of the other couples that make an appearance. The only character I did not really care for was Alec MacQuarrie. Granted he's having a rough time adjusting to life as a vampire but still he was a bit too whiny and love sick over Cait for my tastes.
Sometimes you just want to slap him and tell him to grow up. Still I have enjoyed the first two books in the series so I will most likely pick up the next book which I believe will focus on Alec and another witch, Sorcha. The main reason I did not give this book a higher rating is there wasn't much to the plot. Don't get me wrong, it was a fun read but there was no real villain, no mystery to solve and no major obstacles to overcome. I was actually surprised at how early on in the book the two fall in love, realize it and go for a happily ever after.
Still Lydia Dare is another great author to add to my romance library. Jul 03, Laura Summers rated it liked it Shelves: It's the second in a series, but I haven't read the first and you can easily pick it up as a stand-alone novel. Matthew has been a vampire for over six hundred years, and was once a real knight in shining armour. He's never been in love and has no wish to be, not wanting to inflict his lifestyle onto an inn Reviewed for www. He's never been in love and has no wish to be, not wanting to inflict his lifestyle onto an innocent woman. Rhiannon is a witch, with some pretty super cool powers.
She can control the weather. Although not so great when your emotions get out of control, and you inflict a thunderstorm on those around you, or perhaps even send a bolt of lightening into the punch bowl. Intent on rescuing her sister from the unkind manipulations of her aunt, Rhiannon travels from Scotland to London and find herself thrown into the society and the ways of the ton. It only takes her first event for her to cause a scandal, and now everyone's talking about her. Matthew and Rhiannon are great characters, but it was the supporting cast that stole the show in this book.
Staying in London with her best friend Cait, it's Cait's werewolf brothers-in-law who light up the pages. The hilarious threesome were continually making me laugh with their antics, be it getting into trouble or sneaking into balls they weren't invited to. Do you ever have a book that you simply enjoy, but don't have a lot to say about it? It's a romance through and through, the plot evolves around the budding relationship between Matthew and Rhiannon. While this is a really great romance and they are a fab couple, this does mean that not a lot else happens in the book.
I wonder if this is why I have little to comment on it. It's one of those books you can sit back and enjoy and close with a smile on your face. A fun supernatural romance, I enjoyed the mix of paranormal with the regency setting. Sit back and enjoy the great characters, and sizzling chemistry between Rhiannon and Matthew and work out who you would hit with a lightening bolt if you had the chance!
I'm super excited to bring you this delightsome read, which is In the Heat of the Bite. So, I will tell you about the book and what I thought of it. Rhiannon Sinclair know as the weather witch heads to London to rescue her sister from their awful Aunt Greer. Who has gotten in her head that she would launch Genny into society. Rhiannon is not happy with the situation and decides to have a temper tantrum in the midd Also on http: Rhiannon is not happy with the situation and decides to have a temper tantrum in the middle of Hyde Park, when Matthew Halkett, Earl of Blodswell stumbles upon her.
Nothing with rain, thunder and lighting in the middle of Hyde Park, while the rest of London is dry. A tad bit disturbed by Matthew appearance, decides to run away from him.
Come on the last encounter she had with a vampire wasn't a pleasant one, which would explain why she would run like a scared rabbit. Rhiannon comes to find out that Matthew is real not a bad vampire and needs some help to gain some respectability in the eyes of her aunt. I don't know why she would want that from a bitter jealous aunt.
Rhiannon is not the only that needs help, Matthew has come to realize that he has no desire to feed on anyone else after meeting Rhiannon. That's not good, after all he is a vampire. Hmmm, what to do, what to do?
I recommend them all. It is worth reading the book just for her although the romance is entertaining. Since their husbands are currently Lycans and Vampyres - who don't get along - it is humorous to read about their interactions. I admit that after reading "It Happened One Bite," I was kind of wondering what all the hubbub was about surrounding the author. He was strong, honorable and just a darned likable guy. I just don't like it. Dare was deliciously coy with the details; it started out small, like a pebble going downhill turning into a landslide.
It's always hard being a gentleman vampire. Who wouldn't want a knight and shinning armor kinda guy? I mean he's always there when you need him. And who doesn't want a friend who can effect the weather? Both can come in handy.
Then you put them together, wow what an effect. Overall, I liked the story and as always the dynamic duo who make up Lydia Dare are always building to create future stories. However, they are very subtle and you wouldn't really notice. Since this is my second time reading this book, I'm starting to see the future characters.
Honestly, these books are really neat in that aspect, you don't see too many authors doing this. I strongly suggest reading the other books first before diving into this story, because it really helps the story along. So, I leave you today and happy reading. Blodswell, a year-old vampyre, is a valiant knight with a history significant with the Coig, and was a featured prominently in the last Regency story as the maker of Lord Kettering.
She has ventured to London to visit her younger sister, who is living with their Aunt Greer. The story was another enjoyable regency piece. Rhi is another strong woman who surrounds herself with close friends and a strong support network. While I had hoped for more backstory and his detailed history, I still felt it was a satisfying and enjoyable tale. I enjoyed their forbidden rendezvous quite a lot.
Their romance was innocent, yet sizzling. One thing I will suggest for new readers is to jot down notes to keep track of the characters because there are a lot. And when you toss in the fact that some characters have both given names and titles, it can get confusing. All-in-all another fun, romantic tale from Lydia Dare.
I enjoy the paranormal spin on a regency romance. For me, each story in this series gets a bit better and more enjoyable. When she loses control, storms soon follow. She is angry when she discovers that her younger sister, Ginny has been kidnapped by her nasty aunt to London.
Rhiannon rides to the rescue only to find her sister wants to stay with her aunt for her aunt has promised Ginny a London season. But Rhiannon is suspicious of an aunt who was never been kind to eit In the Heat of the Bite by Lydia Dare Paranormal Romance —July 1st, 4 stars Rhiannon Sinclair is a weather witch with her fiery Scottish temper.
But Rhiannon is suspicious of an aunt who was never been kind to either of them. When she finds herself in the company of a dangerous and attractive vampire named Matthew Halkett, her first impression is to stay away. However, his beauty and chivalry attracts her. When she discovers that being in his company increases her standing in society and makes her social climbing aunt warm up to her, she concocts a plan. But what happens when she want the courtship to turn real? This was a lively romp. Readers who love this series of sassy, Scottish witches will enjoy this latest installment.
Matthew is an absolutely gorgeous and chivalrous hero. In comparison, Rhiannon does seem immature and a bit too impulsive at times. I liked the storyline and the fascinating secondary characters especially the newly turn vampire, Alec MacQuarrie, the scheming Duchess and the powerful vampire Callista. I hope the next book will feature Alec MacQuarrie and the young nature sprite Sorcha.
However, I did find the heavy Scottish accent distracting. I will cross my finger that after the next book featuring Sorcha?! Fun, charming and easy to read, this is a series to lighten your day. Jul 04, Kristi Books and Needlepoint rated it really liked it. Rhiannon has come to ton because her Aunt Greer has brought her sister Ginny to ton to introduce her to society and hopefully arrange a marriage for her.
Rhiannon is slightly jealous as her aunt has never had anything good to say about her not that she has much good to say about anyone - as she is a witch and all. Rhiannon is suspicious of her Aunt's intentions, so she doesn't intend to let Ginny make any mistakes, but in the process becomes entangled in a few of her own.
Rhiannon is the witch who can control the weather, but it often gets out of hand when her emotions are in a turmoil. If she is upset, there is bound to be stormy weather, and if she is angry - watch out for those lightning bolts! She is very feisty, but she grew up sort of neglected by her father, so she has very little self esteem. When she meets Matthew, she doesn't suspect he has any feeling for her, but embroils him in a scheme that will allow her to stay in ton for the season, and maybe gain a little respectability.
This was a very fun read and I am looking forward to the next book in the series, Never Been Bit, which I will be reviewing in September. Since the witches all have different powers, they have different personalities and different quirks to their characters.
Since their husbands are currently Lycans and Vampyres - who don't get along - it is humorous to read about their interactions. I would recommend this series for anyone who likes light paranormal romances.
Great for reading at the beach! In the Heat of the Bite was another quick, cute, fun read in this series. This causes Rhi to throw a tantrum, stirring up a huge storm. In the Heat of the Bite is a kind of fake relationship turned real, but only a little. But Matthew is too much of a gentlemen for that, which was super sweet!
But neither of those really go anywhere. Then his creator is coming around and being troublesome, but again, not much from that either. I just wish all of these great plot threads had been developed more, or not introduced at all.
In the Heat of the Bite was a good read. Nothing terribly exciting or special, but I enjoyed it. Sep 27, May Mostly Romance rated it it was ok Shelves: Jan 21, Jo My House of Books rated it liked it. I was a little disappointed in this book.
Given "clues" in the previous book of the series, It Happened One Bite, I assumed the heroine for the next novel would be Sorcha, the youngest witch in the coven. When I learned the heroine would be Rhiannon, I was quite surprised, simply because we the reader don't know much about her, other than her magical abilities concerning the weather. Turns out, she had a lot to deal with: Matthew, the Earl of Blod I was a little disappointed in this book.
Matthew, the Earl of Blodswell, also has problems: Then his fangs won't distend, except for Rhiannon. Sing it with me now -- "Rhiannnnnon All reasoning for why they shouldn't be together is the same as that in It Happened One Bite with Blaire and James, except any sexual tension that might be present because Blaire fights her attraction to James isn't because Rhiannon gives into hers.
No one was turned; no one got into a fight. In the Heat of the Bite felt like a "filler" book, and I almost believe Rhiannon and Matthew would have been better served as a secondary romance over the course of these last three books. But I plan to read the final book in the series, Never Been Bit, to see Sorcha get her man and hopefully witness Elspeth give birth. Aug 16, Lauren rated it really liked it Shelves: In the Heat of the Bite 3. Matthew was fascinating in the first book and while he is a great hero, noble, honorable and sensual, he is a little too beta for my tastes and I was disappointed in the lack of backstory.
Rhiannon is a very likeable heroine and her powers are shown to much better effect than Blaire's in book 1 - she is really something fierce to behold. The fact that she accepts Matthew without reservation and does everything to can to have him is one In the Heat of the Bite 3. The fact that she accepts Matthew without reservation and does everything to can to have him is one of her most endearing qualities.
Their scenes together are sensual but could have been more detailed. The plot is alright although there is no real conflict or villain - the resolution to the vampire trope in this series is different but satisfying. The secondary characters are a mixed bag: Cait and Dash, on the other hand, are still a wonderful couple and Archer is compelling but the real gem in the book is the Duchess of Hythe, who reminds me of Lady Danbury in Julia Quin's Bridgerton's series.
It is worth reading the book just for her although the romance is entertaining. Jul 10, Linda rated it liked it Shelves: Biggest pet peeve about this one? Well, how Rhi was so off. She meets Matthew, knows he is a vamp, is wary of him and runs away. Then she gets really angry because she finds out he changed Alec, smacks Matthew, because she just assumed he is a bad person because he is a vamp, then later falls for him almost out of nowhere.
One, I don't like assumptions. I get why she is wary of vamps, but then again, knowing Alec is one should have made her wary, but because she knew him, she was not. Matthew wa Biggest pet peeve about this one? Then there are the Hadley brothers. I struggled with her familiarity with them. Seriously, if I had not known this was her and Matthew's book, I never would have guessed it with the way this was going.
Don't get me started on her, the aunt, all of their treatment of Matthew, and even Alec's behavior.
I like the characters in general and was looking forward to Matthew's book, but I was a bit disappointed too. Bill woke to a pain in the pit of his stomach. His eye snapped over to the side of the bed, widening impossibly when he found it empty. The demon sat up abruptly, then stilled himself, taking in a deep breath to calm down.
He's just in the bathroom. He doesn't have the balls to leave. He swung his legs over the side of the bed, stretching an arm over his head with a grunt before padding to the bathroom. Mentally, he was screeching and snarling and ' I swear to Chaos if he's not in here A tattooed hand slammed the bathroom door open, and it echoed through the empty walls. Bill's eye flooded a bloody, murderous red, and a demonic snarl erupted from his throat and echoed around the entire Fearymid and even further until it shook the very ground.
And then, to Bill's shock, there was a surge of defiance. As if Dipper had told him no to his face. There was a pause, a hesitant, struggling moment, then the defiance was hitting him in the stomach, so hard that it nearly took his breath away.
