Please try again later. I am so tired of web development books that are written for beginners that are riddled with errors. It would be bad enough to write a book for advanced users but beginner books with code errors, broken links, downloads that don't match the book and on and on.
This is one of those coding books that I'm so tired of. I would not recommend this book to any beginner or anyone else for that matter. A couple of things that I've already come across: Erroneous entries in the stylesheet margin-bottom: The pics of the website provided in the book don't match the what the code actually does. Her css framework layout-core. Ok, perhaps I can get the latest version of layout-core.
Nope, it's nowhere to be found. Not on her website or at the link that is provided at the header of the stylesheet http: Honestly when I read that she was using her own framework little bells went off in my head. Warning Will Robinson, Warning! But hey I thought, maybe it's a useful little tool that she's provided us. Pass this one on by. I wish I could recommend something else but the truth is in my 7 month long web development journey I have come across so much of this it's crazy and frankly unbelievable. How can anyone put their name on something like this?
And I'm only on chapter 2.

This book is expensive but poor quality: The progression of the book is poorly explained which would make it difficult for "Beginners" to follow. For example, one is not given a sense of the final project other than a small screen capture that is virtually all black and a vague reference to a project in a previous edition. One is not given access to the code to download at each step in the development.

I really liked the format of this book. Walk you through the code and process, then explain what you just did. But it turns out the practice code doesn't work, and does not match the final code supplied in files online at all. Also, the deeper one gets, the less explanation, so we are only having explained a few of the steps we take, not all. I teach web design and coding, and found this book to be a disappointment.
I also agree with a review above about many of the illustrative images being to small to see.

One person found this helpful. Al Swanson Top Contributor: As with most WordPress books, I simply wish for more technical details. Id like more programming examples and ideas for troubleshooting. I know what to do when things work! But they don't always work. At least not for me! Still, one of the best -and only- new books out there on the subject.
I keep seeing more in depth books being promised do perhaps WordPress writing is turning the corner. I was expecting a book about WordPress theme development. I gave up at that point and transferred the mess to the circular bit bucket. Perhaps I should have been clued in by the use of the word "Beginner's" in the title. However, that word does not implicitly remove the other relevant word in the title, "WordPress.

I have gained a solid understanding of the theme-related Wordpress Core technology from this book. The strength of this book is learning by doing. And, the book delivers them splendidly. The exercises are very systematic. Very easy to follow. They give me a complete understanding of how WordPress displays its content. I had previously read two advanced books about WordPress: Design and Development Beyond the Blog They gave me a conceptual understanding of WordPress theme technology, but I was not sure what I could do with it.
