Whenever Herculeah is around or senses danger, her hair spikes up like a porcupine. He crawls up buildings, jumps off buildings, and swings at least 30 feet above the ground. On a smaller scale, Herculeah takes risks of her own. She goes to strangers for help and goes out on the street where people seem to be watching and stalking her. But even though Herculean is surrounded by danger and goes into dangerous situations, she still stays alert. This book honestly needs improvement. I was disappointed in this book. Feb 11, Adrianna C. This song also fits in the rest of the story since the main character has been experiencing suspense every second, uncertain when the murderer will try to kill her, even when she was asleep. The dark and moody feeling this music gives off will remind you that every action Herculeah makes are always risky and is getting her involved in something abominable, one step at a time.

Dapper Cadaver- This song is similar to three days to live because it represents the motion of her actions when she is searching for evidence, until the very moment she figures out a very terrible truth. However, I think this this music is more intense than the last one, since it gives off more suspense. This song is also better than the song just now because it shows how the main character is finding out clues urgently.

Working through winter-This song shows the feeling that Herculeah is experiencing while finding out clues again, similar to the last two songs. This song gives you a bitter cold feeling, making us understand that finding out clues for a murder is terrifying work and nerve wracking work; especially when you feel like the murderer is right behind you. Action-This song fits well in the scenario when Herculeah is trying to escape the gunmen as soon as possible while in the woods, while also heavily contemplating on whenever it is worth it to keep tracking down on the current case.

This music will fill your mind with desperation and urgency in a dangerous situation where you are almost hopeless. Pripyat-This mysterious song represents the time where Herculeah was locked in the same room… as the victim Amanda Cole she long thought was dead. It was a very breathtaking moment when Herculeah found out she was alive. Fortunately, this music highlights the theme and the feeling well during this particular moment in the book that immediately gave Herculeah some hope on the case… and escaping the grasp of the men with potential wiliness to murder both of them.

I chose this song because the lyrics greatly reflect on what Herculeah is thinking while in an almost helpless situation. I enjoyed reading mystery books, especially ones from the Herculeah Jones Mystery series. The mystery all started out when Herculeah brought a coat with a note that asked for help because someone was trying to murder her.

While solving the mystery the murderer is close behind to prevent Herculeah Dead Letter by Betsy Byars is a mystery book anyone would enjoy reading when he or she is bored. My favorite part was when Herculeah got captured by the murderer while Meat and a construction worker helped get her out. That part of the book was intense and I really want to find out what happened while reading that part. While reading this book I found it hard to relate Herculeah to myself because our personalities are so different in many ways.

A review from my old blog of the whole series I enjoyed these books. I wouldn't say that these were the best mystery books I have ever read although I have to admit that I haven't read Nancy Drew books or other mystery books written for that age in a long time. I did find out something interesting. Byars mentioned in passing a local grocery store and I thought, "wait, I know that store. She has to be from somewhere around here.

I found that quite interesting. Mar 19, Amirah rated it really liked it. This book is about a girl who solves death mysteries on her own. Herculeah goes to a thrift shop and finds this really nice blue coat.

She buys it and soon realizes that there is a piece of paper in the lining of the coat. She finds a hole and takes the paper out and it was a death letter of someone crying for help. She uses Sherlock Holmes tips to find out who was it that wrote it and what happened. This book was really interesting. All the Herculeah Jones books I read so far were really good. It was very mysterious, mischievous, suspicious, etc. I thought this book along with "Death's Door" were good. I recommend this book to everyone because it was a really good book.

There were so very scary part like when she almost got run down by the black car and when the watchman and Roger Cole locked her in the stable because she knew too much about Amanda Cole's death. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries.

There is realistic adult involvement in the solution, but the kids have done the thinking.

I really don't like mysteries, but the Hercules Jones series was a good series to start with since, I really don't like mysteries.

Then one day i asked the question a different way and then i found the book again. Well i know the reason i loved it as a child and hopefully when i do have children it will be a book that captures their attention now. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. This is the second time I read this book and the first time I read it was last summer so I barely remembered what happens and I loved it more then I loved it the first time!!!!!!!!

This story has some pleasant and interesting parts. The basic plot is Herculeah Jones stumbles across a letter that leads her to a mystery.

Having grown up on Hardy Boy Mysteries, and having read a number of Nancy Drew Mysteries to my own daughters, I can see the market niche this book is trying to fill, but I don't recommend this book. The biggest problem with the book is for a "smart" girl, Herculeah does some really stupid things.

Herculeah Jones Mysteries Series

The Hardy Boys got into danger, but they were normally fairly careful. The Hardy Boys' mysteries are better then this, but they did have their own problems. Herculeah rushes into danger. It is exciting to read about, but in reality Herculeah was doing some stupid things.

She could have very easily been dead. She is not a good hero to read about. If you have children who like mysteries, there are better ones to read. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. Herculeah buys a coat and she later notices the coat has a letter in the lining.

She then got it out through a hole in the pocket. When she read it, her hair frizzled. Every time her hair frizzles, danger awaits her. The note was from a woman that had a huge amount of stress put upon her. I would tell you more but you will just have to read it yourself. I enjoyed reading this book. I could just sit and read while someone else figured out the clues. I liked this book because it did not have a lot of suspense and everything happened right after I found out about a clue.

I liked this book because I don't like books with a lot of suspense. If you like books that make you figure out the ending then this book isn't for you. But if you like the total opposite, then this book is for you! Join Herculeah Jones and her accomplice Meat for their third edge of your seat adventure. While visiting a thrift store Herculeah buys a coat and later discovers a letter in the lining of the coat.

The letter is from a lady being held captive; afraid she is going to be murdered. After a little research Herculeah discovers that indeed the lady who had wrote this letter was dead, and died an accidental death. But Herculeah didn't believe that so she set out on an investigation to see what really had happened. But while looking for the ladies killer, Herculeah almost became the murders next victim.

Afraid of death while being held hostage and guarded by angry Doberman Herculeah can do nothing but hope that her best friend meat will save her. Meat a boy who is not as adventurous or brave as his pal Herculeah, doesn't even realize how helpful he really is to her.

Now just wonder what adventure Byars will put Herculeah up to in her next nail-biting thriller. A Kid's Review 4. I would recommend this book to a friend who likes mystery books because it was very suspicous. For example, the parts that were most mysterious to me were the times when the black car kept following her. I wanted to read until I foundout who was in the car and why the person in it was following her. The most suspencful part was when Roger Cole, the murderer, found her and locked her up in the attic with a vicious dog to gaurd.
