While it took me a little bit longer to absorb myself into the story, I am thrilled I kept reading! There are many characters at the beginning, but stick with it. If you love paranormal like I do, you will really enjoy this book. As typical with her other books, this one is well written, multi-tiered plot lines, great character development and growth, and the story doesn't drag. Turen's character male protagonist is strong, not just physically, but with his convictions as well.
One awesome thing about his strength, is that the author balances it out with his weakness as well. It is so nice to read the strong male character getting knocked down more than a few times and isn't the typical "superman" character in many fantasy stories. Turin's personality strengthens those around him as well. He doesn't just "lead the way" without accepting some help. Mia's character female protagonist starts out a bit beaten down after a sudden end to her marriage. While that can be a typical over-used background, it works really nicely in this book. It's not overwritten that it drags the plot in another direction.
It actually adds to her future growth within the novel and she becomes strong enough to overcome and look ahead without beating herself up about her past. It's also nice that the author didn't rely too heavily on going back to her past betrayal in order to give her a personality. Mia's strength develops in sync with the plot--which I never like to write too much about for fear of giving away spoilers. That brought me to this book, which left me further enamored.
This series introduces Guardians created on the edge of Eden, now living in seclusion in Sanctum, their ancestral home. When the book opens, Guardian Turen has allowed himself to be captured and held by a former colleague, Xavier, who descended into madness and a life of crime after the deaths of his mate and unborn child. Mia Bowman is a human writer who involuntarily "folds" into Turen's cell at night after she falls asleep, returning home when she dozes off again.
In the weeks to come, she sees the horrors of his captivity, while he sacrifices to keep her safe during her visits.
Wanting to help him, she investigates his people and begins to manifest Guardian abilities. Her research leads to clues about a conspiracy that supports Xavier's claim that his mate was poisoned, giving Mia the seed of an idea for garnering Turen's freedom. But until the threat to the Guardian's mates is resolved, none of the Guardian's will be safe. I will say that after the first three chapters I moved on to another book.
I didn't care for the writing style and I couldn't figure out what was going on. I'm glad I came back to it. All of the females have been put into hybernation to ensure their safety. Turren manages to get imprisoned by a rogue member of his race. Mia is getting over her husband's death and betrayal. When she falls asleep she somehow mangag Turren belongs to a race that has lived in secret among humans since the begining of time. When she falls asleep she somehow mangages to teleport to Turren's cell and once she falls asleep there she goes back to her home.
The two of them end up helping each other and getting closer to one another everyday. The more she's in contact and the closer she gets to Turren she begins to take on new abilities and becomes less human by the day. Mia comes up with a plan to release Turren. They go on the run from Turren's captor and race.
This is a story with a lot of world builing at the start but after that it gets really good. There's love, betrayal, hope, violence, and a little bit of everyting in this story. Mia and Turren just might discover how to save Turren's race together. Betrayal's Shadow takes the Eden story and turns it on its ear - somehow in a way that is easy to imagine.
LeMoyne sets up her paranormal backstory in a way that is easy to believe and lets the reader sink into her characters and their complex interrelationships from the very first page. Particularly when you consider how much of the novel takes place in Turen's prison cell, LeMoyne demonstrates her talent at pulling the reader into her descriptions and dialogue without the story feeling drawn o Betrayal's Shadow takes the Eden story and turns it on its ear - somehow in a way that is easy to imagine.
Particularly when you consider how much of the novel takes place in Turen's prison cell, LeMoyne demonstrates her talent at pulling the reader into her descriptions and dialogue without the story feeling drawn out or stagnant. There were places that the narrative left me a bit confused and had me flipping back to earlier passages, but overall LeMoyne's style was appealing and engaging. I did find myself wishing for more detail about where the Guardians actually came from and what their real purpose is, but perhaps that's something she's saving for a future novel in the series. Overall, I am definitely interested not only in the relationship between Turen and Mia, but in the future of the Guardian race and can't wait to read the next installment.
I really enjoyed this novel. The hero is a warrior for a hidden race of protectors who is loyal to one of his kind that had been betrayed and fell into madness. The heroine is a normal human woman with betrayal and disappointment issues of her own to handle. They come together through a combination of magic and fate and work to bring hope back to a dying race. Their story is compelling and the characters are rich.
I could not put this one down and look foward to reading more of the Guardians. It blow my socks off. It's a nail biter that captured my attention from the very first. I love the Characters the struggles that they go though so there strength and resolve. This is a must read i Highly recommend.
I have already got the next book to read. LeMoyne is a author to keep an eye on. This was an excellent adventure! Well written and did not leave me hanging, wondering how one scene tied into another. I really liked it. In the beginning i wasn't really into the book. Read the first part of the excerpt. It's the beginning of the book Turen's POV. A prison with sociopaths and creepy creatures aren't really my thing, but 20 pages in It was like putting white and black together.. You can figure this stuff from the excerpt It all started with a betrayal and this book is like de In the beginning i wasn't really into the book.
You can figure this stuff from the excerpt It all started with a betrayal and this book is like dealing with the aftermath but there are things that are what they seem and things that aren't The tittle fits perfectly. It's not clear from the beginning who was the traitor, but you could tell something isn't quite right.. Somewhat predictable if you were paing attention to all the small clues and quite evil! The book is alterates between Turen and Mia's POV but also with some snippets of the other Guardians POV which gives lot of insight and a better comprehension of the whole Guardian thing.
Mia was a strong female character, but not a cold one either. She was really something. And if I may say so.. She was smart and intuitive. There is a part where she made me think of A from the Pretty Little Liars ,only this time A was a trying to do good by developing such a brilliant plan to get Turen out of prison Turen i don't know why, but this name doesn't stick with me He was loyal and honest, and that my friend is a rare thing nowadays. As a couple, they really had a spark going.
From early start i noticed his annoyance when other males were involved or even mentioned Actually, most of the Guardians were like Tauren which is a good thing! They were creepy and scary and they gave me nightmares.. When they were really scary.. The first thing that i did like was their first conversation which was a "verbal ping-pong match" ,which was kind of a breath of fresh air from the Prison terror. But most of their conversations were like that.
Here is a quote that got me laughing out loud: Any female will do. As long as she has your scent, your skin and your smart mouth" The reasons why this book did not receive 5 stars: Some scenes weren't developed or explained enough. There were some things about the Guardians that weren't explained like their purpose , but also in the beginning about Mia and her ability to "teleport" between the comfort of her bed to the prison cell where Turen was. The fact that i couldn't picture some places, like Xavier's compound and the Sanctuary very well or at all.
And i do have imagination The fact that there were left a lot of things that added to Mia's character development in the dark by skipping time ,only mentioned in a few sentences. I give this 4 stars! And i do recommend it to all: I look forward to the other books in the series. I definitely like the concept of the Guardians and if i may say so.. I think i may dedicate a whole post on this Saturday New discoveries day to them There are some steamy sex scenes If you want to see more reviews go to my blog!
May 31, Heather Wiese rated it really liked it. Really liked this one! It's the first book I have read by this author, but hey, sexy man on the cover and an interesting book description and I'm in! Turen is a "Guardian" a race of human-like beings who have enhanced senses, enhanced healing abilities and special powers. Their job is to heal human souls although it wasn't really explained how About years ago their people were mostly killed off by a deadly virus and only those under Really liked this one!
About years ago their people were mostly killed off by a deadly virus and only those under the age of 19 lived. They retreated to a place called Sanctum in isolation, cut off from the outside world. Their leader, Xavier, after loosing his mate and child goes insane and took off, leaving another, Salvatore, to take his place. Salvatore then put all the women in stasis to "protect them," and instituted harsh guidelines for the men.
No one has found a mate nor has a child been born in all that time. Turen never believed that Xavier truly abandoned them so after multiple attempts to meet with him to talk Xavier is now some sort of drug lord who attacks his own people , Turen gets himself captured ehhh What he gets instead is months and months of torture.
Editorial Reviews. Review. "This is a story of betrayal, love, honor and an undying desire to save a people. The characters are wonderful." -- Linda, reviewer. Mia is a human who finds herself falling asleep one night at home and waking up in the prison where Turen is being kept. At first she thinks it's all just horrible nightmares, but then she realizes she is actually there in person and after her initial fear, begins talking to Turen. They form a friendship and mutual attraction, all the while Turen is insisting she stay away so she doesn't get hurt. Mia, being strong willed, wants to help Turen, and sets out to figure out what is really going on as best she can. Against all belief, she determines it might just be a fellow Guardian who has betrayed them.
She finally is able to break Turen free, but not without consequences that leave her on the run for months. When Turen and Mia finally reconnect their reunion is very sweet, but there is still danger lurking everywhere. I loved Turen, he was a warrior at his most vulnerable imprisoned, tortured, chained so he couldn't use his powers, starved and his every instinct was to protect Mia, even when he briefly thought she was a plant by the guards. He was so gentle and sweet to her!
I loved the affection he shows her all the time. Mia had just been hosed by her soon-to-be-ex-husband and yet when confronted with this man who needed her, didn't hesitate to help him. They form a strong bond that not only changes them both, but has far reaching effects for the Guardians. There is a second book I just downloaded and I hope the series continues! This story is a romantic, sensual urban fantasy and a wonderful read.
The story takes the time to develop instead of just dumping all the information in the first chapters. That makes for a slower pace at the start, but it picks up speed by chapter three. Turen is captive in a dungeon of sorts in order to redeem a fallen colleague of his super human Guardian race. He has gone to great lengths to help his people and is now trapped despite his special powers. Mia literally just appears in his life This story is a romantic, sensual urban fantasy and a wonderful read.
Mia literally just appears in his life, pulled by some unexplained phenomenon, but it is easy to suspend disbelief with the magic of this story.
Turen, and Mia struggle to make sense of their situation and partner to free Turen. Turen is larger than life, protective and supportive, in a way that is very sexy. Mia is a strong female character without being over the top. Her growth in the story is believable and fun to read.
They both evolve throughout the story because of their many trials and choices and I really rooted for them to win and save the Guardian race. Themes of trust, betrayal, loyalty, compassion, and sacrifice run through the entire book, woven with the plot almost like secondary characters. And the secondary characters are intriguing as well.
I hope we see more of them in future books. This love story is both sad and poignant for all the brutal decision and scarifies Turen and Mia are forced to make. There is no tidy wrap up of all the issues at the end, but the ending delivers. Overall, the plot flows smoothly, the characters are well developed, and the buildup to the steamy sex scenes is great.
May 05, L. The guardians have a unique history. They were created to guide humans in their development. Until they meet their mate, they are immortal.
Once mated, they live normal lives and have two children, a son and daughter. These children carry the souls of humans. It is into this hidden wor What would you do to save your people from extinction? It is into this hidden world, we meet Turen. After two hundred years of quarantine because of a plague, he leaves Eden to discover the truth. Why one of their revered leaders went insane, and if, just possibly his claim that his mate and their unborn child were murdered is true. Now a captive of his long-lost friend, he fears he has sacrificed his freedom and caused the death of a dear friend for nothing.
Her genetics places her off-limits to the guardians. In time, she figures out how to do it on command. This is a story of hope, love, freedom, and redemption. As with all KH LeMoyne books, it is multi-layered. Turen and Mia are wonderful. This book sets the world and reminds us that sometimes we need to go further than just the surface in life. Expect to be hooked by Ms. This is a new author for me, and I feel in love with the cover. It is what caught my attention and led me to download the book. The first few chapters were a bit rough for me to get into, but once I started figuring out who people were and got used to the creative names, I got sucked in.
I loved the characters of Mia and Turen. Loved the conversation, the boldness and the way they interacted with each other. I was glad that the author created a female lead who could be an equal to her mate. There This is a new author for me, and I feel in love with the cover. There was a lot of detail to the story, and a history that was deep and very complex. Sometimes a bit confusing as you read it, but it was obvious to me that the author will bring all that history about in her coming novels in the series.
The paranormal aspects of this novel were written well, making them seem almost possible in real life. The writing itself was descriptive and informative, while not being over done.
I do agree with another review I saw that the mechanical monsters in the story did detract slighly from the plot and caused some confusion as to why they were there, the story would have done just fine without them. Although I did not like them, I did not hold that against the author.
The book was just too good to have that one aspect pull it down. As I said before, this is a new author to me, and I am very excited to continue with The Guardians of Eden series. As soon as I finished this book, I immediately downloaded the second book. Read to Review giveaway. This book started out a little slow.
The first night I picked this up I probably got only a few chapters in before I put it down.
Honestly it was a little boring at first. I do have to say that I am very glad that I did finish reading this book, because it certainly ended with a bang!
