In some cases, as with Chronicles of Narnia , disagreements about order necessitate the creation of more than one series.
If the series has an order, add a number or other descriptor in parenthesis after the series title eg. By default, it sorts by the number, or alphabetically if there is no number. If you want to force a particular order, use the character to divide the number and the descriptor. So, " 0 prequel " sorts by 0 under the label "prequel. Series was designed to cover groups of books generally understood as such see Wikipedia: Like many concepts in the book world, "series" is a somewhat fluid and contested notion.
A good rule of thumb is that series have a conventional name and are intentional creations , on the part of the author or publisher. For now, avoid forcing the issue with mere "lists" of works possessing an arbitrary shared characteristic, such as relating to a particular place. Avoid series that cross authors, unless the authors were or became aware of the series identification eg. Also avoid publisher series, unless the publisher has a true monopoly over the "works" in question.
So, the Dummies guides are a series of works.
But the Loeb Classical Library is a series of editions, not of works. Home Groups Talk Zeitgeist. Beam Piper Same series: The Worlds of H. Little Fuzzy , Fuzzy Sapiens Fuzzies. I was actually surprised how this Korean war vet and Pennsylvania trooper could be so knowledgeable of Napoleonic battle techniques, and had the periodic table memorized. There was some interesting interplay of personalities and political back biting so the story moves along in an interesting manner. This is only true of Kalvan's timeline. Piper developed level one interaction, but Carr's development of level one is only incidental. There's no further attempt to develop rudimentary science. Communication is still by messenger.
He contemplates wigwam, but can't develop it. He has copper available, but doesn't think electricity. I give this a four because I think it is worth reading, but I'm disappointed that it isn't really science fiction.

When discovered that Carr several years later had written a sequel to Great Kings War I was again very happy. However, the problem from Great Kings War with to many characters continues and even gets worse. Apart from that it's a pretty good story and Carr has a good grasp of tactics and weapons of the 16th and 17th centuries. The twist of the Kalvan stories is that all of this takes place in North America because some aryan tribes turned east and crossed Bering's Strait instead of turning south into India and west towards Europe.
Once there they defeated the Amerind natives and proceeded to build their own feudal societey. Perhaps not so believable but it really doesn't matter. In this novel Kalvan and his troops has to stop a large invasion of nomads, much like Vikings but on horseback.
Forging new alliances and letting his queen wife Rylla keeping an eye on Styphon's House, Kalvan's deadly enemies. This has some unforeseen consequences because Rylla is as hottempered as she is beautiful. If I only had rated this novel because my love for alternate history, particulary of the 17th century, it would have gotten 4 stars.
Kalvan Kingmaker is an English language science fiction novel by John F. Carr, the third book in the Kalvan series and the sequel to Great Kings' War. However, as I mentioned earlier there is a problem trying to follow the storyline in this book because of all the different characters and subplots. An advise to presumtive readers is to read at least Great Kings War and also Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen before you read this book. Yours truly Hans Nilsson.

King Kalvan has had some time to consolidate his power after beating his enemy's back. His enemies in Styphon House have caused some major attacks from barbarians and Zarthani Knights however to cause him problems throughout the book as well as a overzealous wife. Carr has established minor story lines to keep the reader interested as well as the major Kalvan story. But that is the problem of the book, the characters are not being so well developed. The book's conversations seem to be an afterthought not a way of getting the reader involved.
The idea of armies moving across these vast distances is not really believable. After 29 years in the military I know moving a unit in vehicles is hard enough over well paved roads. His fast moving army that is at best foot and horse propelled over dirt roads is not completely believable. The biggest issue I have is it seems this book is only used as a stepping stone to the next book.
Seems he could have left a cliffhanger without doing it repeatedly the entire book. Anyway, this book is worth buying as it continues the story. I do enjoy books by authors Carr and Green and hope the next re-establishes the Piper vision ; Siege of Tarr Hostigos. Beam Piper was alive, apparently, his expectations were greater than the reality of his world. It is really too bad that he couldn't see what John F.
Carr and others have done with his works. First, I think, there were the updates on 'Fuzzy' books. You see, 'fireseed' is gunpowder. Calvin Morrison was a policeman, a good one, who was the son of a minister, and heavy handed man who wanted his son to follow in his footsteps. He went to war, learned history, and then he was 'kidnapped' into a world that his father couldn't have ever dreamed up, in his worst pictures of hell, and heavier than even his footsteps. A religious sect, 'Styphon' who had discovered the secret of gunpowder, which they call 'fireseed', is trying to control the world as they know it , by control of the people who pray to their god.
Through battles, and historical near references, he begins to guide his world, which had stagnated, into the future. Helped by the Paratime Police Force, he begins winning battles. Bean Piper, and the next two, both written by John F.
