Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Extremely well-written and informative. I learned quite a bit about the deplorable plight of women during and prior to the nineteenth century. ECS's arguments are very persuasive, her descriptions of the status or lack of of most women are appalling. Despite this, her anecdotes about family and friends are quite amusing.

Very different than today's feminism. She draws a credible parallel between the lack of basic human rights for women and the institution of slavery, and makes a good argument that the 14th Amendment, despite its intent, also gives women the same citizenship rights as men. That argument was not accepted at the time, but there is a similar argument being made now for anchor babies; that they are citizens with rights by virtue of being born in the US, even though the intent of the amendment was only to provide citizenship to former slaves.

ECS's book provides exceptional insight into the issues, emotions, and perspectives of the times, and is not limited to women's suffrage. I learned from Ms. Stanton's writings of the trials the ladies experienced.
