The Cost of Favor

Do they actually create any kind of business relationship though? I've ordered take out for myself before and had restaurants ask "Is this a favor order? Unless they changed it since I drove for them, they do not. They send the order to the driver, who then has to wait in line and actually place the order, instead of favor sending the order directly to the restaurant like most of the newer apps do.

As a restaurant employee I can tell you, we hate favor. Many also charge Favor an extra fee, to recoup having to purchase extra to go packing products. They also do not tip. So if you are ever giving them extra, thinking they are tipping out the employees at the place you ordered from, they are not. Devil's advocate, but when I pick up food for myself, I don't tip either. Food trailers or restaurants, doesn't really matter. Especially when all they do is take my order, make my food, and yell out my name when it's ready.

I got out of the house, I'm doing the majority of the work, why tip? I do tip generously for wait staff, delivery services, and so on however. Since a Favor driver is picking up an order, why should they tip the restaurant? It's no different than me picking up some tacos or a pizza, not tipping, and going home to eat. It's hard to convince me to feel bad about my Favor driver not tipping the people who made the food when they're doing most of the work. I agree entirely with you, but I want to highlight the real reason people get pissed when you don't tip anything on a to go order.

In addition it takes time away from service they could be providing to in store customers. What the restaurant industry should be doing is have someone paid hourly not servers taking the to go orders, not taking tips, and therefore not tipping anyone out. I worked in the restaurant industry for 10 years.

I understand tipping servers for to go orders is fucking stupid, but so is the entire tipping economy. Stiffing servers doesn't fix that though. One final thought, I think its a reasonable compromise to tip a lower percentage. At least that way they aren't being punished for taking your order. Why not, you know, have them take it up with their boss? A reasonable compromise works with the employees of the system, not passing that burden onto the consumer.

You've clearly never worked in a restaurant. You can take it up with the boss all you want, and the boss will say "Fuck you answer the phone or take the order or go home" To top it off, you really don't want to piss off the boss as a server. Thats how you end up with weekday mornings on your schedule for the rest of the month and therefore make no money. I agree that its fucked up, but I would also argue the entire tipping system is fucked up.

Try complaining to your boss about that one and you'll get about the same answer. If you as a consumer want to take it up with the boss, that might carry more weight realistically probably not though, you'll just get lip service and if you aren't careful may very well get the server taking your order in trouble. You could possibly solve it with a union, but anyone trying to unionize in the service industry would just be fired on the spot where I live. Do what you want, I've been out of this industry for the better part of a decade now.

I just wanted to explain why people get pissed about it, and its because they're not only not making money, they're losing money out of the tips they made from other tables. And you think your food was magically cooked, packed up, and checked to be correct, on its on? You are still getting service when you get it to go.

Someone is still taking their time to: You are still taking their time and space, especially if you are in the place of business.

I did that job for five years, from 17 - 22 or so. I took orders, I made food, I prepped food, I rang up customers, I mopped and cleaned, I cleaned shit out of toilets, I got yelled at. Sometimes, though rarely, a person would leave a tip specifically for me. Mostly though it was drivers sharing if they had a really good night. I never complained about not getting tips, I didn't do a job that deserved tips. I don't feel bad about not tipping at a food trailer.

If I get food from a McDonalds or Whataburger tipping is unheard of in those places.

Joseph Prince - God's Favor Will Cause You To Reign In Life - Classic Sermon

Why is Torchy's or a food trailer any different? Favor goes to more places than McDonalds or Whataburger, not to mention those places pay those people to machine line orders out. You do realize at many places you are wasting a servers time with your to go order, right? They are still making a shitty 2. As for a food trailer?

Contact Favor

Its usually one person running around for you still. They don't have other people helping them out. Businesses should pay employees a living wage, that gets properly taxed, and we dispense with tipping bullshit altogether. I've worked as a cook for many different restaurants and never gotten tipped.

What is this disingenuous bullshit? Yeah and they're still getting fucking paid. Tipping should not be expected on to-go orders. Drop the smug attitude. Just cause that's your experience doesn't mean its that way across the board. I've cooked in plenty of places where the cooks do get tips. You're an angry little man, ain't you? Never said it was the "industry standard" just said I've worked at places that do tip outs.

Maybe it's just the proliferation of the Square POS systems, but it feels like more and more people expect a tip these days.

If somebody goes above and beyond, I'm happy to tip. Otherwise I don't feel like I need to pay extra if someone is just doing the job that they already get paid to do. Unfortunately that cost often doesn't bring employees to a liveable wage, especially here in Austin these days. Tips really help make up that difference. I'm not saying you need to tip, or you're an asshole if you don't, and I'm not even trying to condone this system where tipping ends up being a necessity.

It's just the way it is. Do whatever you feel, but a buck is appreciated, and is helpful to the people making your food for you.

  • What Is the Favor Delivery App (and How Does It Work)??

In fact, I think it would be excellent if we went like Europe and actually stopped tipping and paid a decent wage to service industry. But as is, In many places menu prices do not necessary reflect the employees wage. Many places pay low claiming that the tips more than make up for it.

The Cost of Favor

Cooks don't get tips and make far less. If some server or bartender has to package the occasional meal and STILL make many times what a cook makes you should stop bitching. I know a lot of servers and they don't want the tipping culture to go away because they make a hell of a lot more than minimum wage. Are there slow nights? But the money they make on the busy nights more than makes up for it. If you ain't making close to what they are when its busy, and making more than them when its slow than A Your boss is hosing you. Is there any delivery service that restaurant employees don't hate?

Some of that seems unavoidable unless the service compensates the restaurant directly. I've never expected that. They're just picking up an order from the restaurant. I use Favor all the time and I accept I am throwing money out the window before I even open the app. However, I can always ballpark my total, maybe I just use it too much. I am generally happy with the service though. What are everyone's favorite alternatives? I totally agree with you. I just think - this is gonna cost more than its worth but I want it more than I want to get up and get it myself so oh well.

I rarely get surged or if I do I just wait a lil bit and it goes away.

I do hate the auto tip though. Those kind of are alternatives but they only will pick up at certain places, Favor is the only food delivery that I am aware of that isn't limited to business partners.

UberEats has twice left me out to dry after they couldn't find a driver to bring me the food from the restaurant after 45 mins of waiting for the restaurant to make the food. Your mileage may vary, but if Uber can't find driver during peak times, neither can Favor. My alternative to Favor is Bitesquad. Been pretty happy with them thus far. Being west of downtown I looooove how fast they will deliver Austin Daily Press. I worked for Bitesquad for about a year or so. I thought they were a decent company.

Now, mind you, I was stubborn and wanted to stay south where they were certainly less busy, but the thing is, I work south of the river now and make plenty of money, so ehh, not really a big deal for me. I use it all the time. Just what it is. If you stick to that, it doesn't make it so bad. I literally just deleted this app because they won't stop sending me push notifications and there's nowhere to disable them.

I'm not on iphone. There's no app settings in the android app, just logout, unless I'm completely overlooking it. We frequently use it to have lunch brought in at work. I've never used it personally. I wonder if this isn't where their business is shifting. Business customers aren't going to be as price sensitive. The social mentality of it being ok to nickel and dime yourself out of simple tasks due to laziness, and the social mentality of needing a middleman for everything, are both super annoying. Not saying they should be illegal or anything, but in my more perfect world people would vote with their dollars and spend far less on this microtransaction sharing economy crap.

Surely I can fantasize about how people would act in " my more perfect world" without getting into an internet argument?

• Favor Delivery - Favor Delivery

Was I wrong to take the "annoying" and "laziness" words as applying to my choice to spend money with favor? That depends on why you use favor, doesn't it? If you're busy or at work, or use it occasionally when you're tired out, then it's not laziness. If you use it frequently just because it's there even though you have nothing better to do, then "laziness" just seems like a fact, not an insult. But ok, I guess I can't have my opinion, or use enough qualifiers to express this is how I see things or how I would act, without getting into an internet argument.

Thanks for taking things personally. You write with a genuine sincerity and passion for Christ that serves as an example for me. MTJ, as often happens when you leave a comment, you've given me more to think about with Mary. Hadn't considered the impact of being away from her mother and other family members as she brought her son into the world. The great thing about the Christmas story or any part of the Bible is that it is constantly unfolding to us.

I've read the story many times but only this time did the impact of Mary's yes really stand out to me. Andrea, yes can we stand to be favored by God. To the natural self it seems favor would mean you slide by in life but that's totally not the case as you've pointed out.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts Sandra. I'm always blessed when you stop by. Wanda this is a very insightful post. I really appreciate the revelation the Spirit of the Lord gave you regarding favor. You highlighted an aspect of Mary's assignment that I had not given much thought. We often think only of the positive aspects of God's favor, but it greatly benefits us to be reminded that His assignments, His favor come with great responsibility, great weight, and sometimes a side of discomfort.

Welcome to Reddit,

And those are ones I have experienced. I just wanted to explain why people get pissed about it, and its because they're not only not making money, they're losing money out of the tips they made from other tables. In that case it's kind of silly to continue to value that time the same as when they're working, which is a financially sensible time to use something like favor. Confirm the payment amount and simply wait for the Runner to arrive. And what do you consider luxury? The social mentality of it being ok to nickel and dime yourself out of simple tasks due to laziness, and the social mentality of needing a middleman for everything, are both super annoying. It'a a thrilling prospect to be changed by the King, and a little unsettling, too.

Thank you for sharing with us what the Lord shared with you. I think none of us know the cost of favor. That's why I believe God only shows us a small portion of His plan for our lives in the beginning. If we knew all the costs, we might not even begin the journey with Him! I know I wouldn't!
