The first few chapters of this book cover approximately 10 years of the working relationship between two main characters--Damon and Natasha. Somewhere in this time, Natasha gets divorced and has a child, although these events are not spelled out, all of a sudden there's a character named Milo, whom we are left to figure out is Natasha's kid.

Said child was born without Damon Natasha's boss having any clue that this occurred. No one tells him, he doesn't notice physical changes, nor long absences. Doesn't she have photos on her desk??

Doesn't anyone else in the office ever mention this to Damon?? Can anyone truly be that oblivious to his surroundings and I ask this having lived with my husband over 37 years, and even I find it unbelievable!! Why on earth an intelligent woman and single mother would be attracted to him makes no sense to me. The book was so confusing, and part of the problem was the first part of the book, as described above, yet the second part of the book was soooo long and drawn out, yet very confused.

At some points, I felt like Damon--what the hell is Natasha up to??

Is the reader supposed to be as oblivious to Natasha's life as he is? Because I frequently had no idea what she was up to. Had she gotten another job? Why exactly did she leave Damon in Vegas, and did she or did she not know what happened at the demonstration?

As Christmas approachs things between Reid and Karina heat up. But when Reid discovers the true reason why Karina is there will the holiday magic disappear before the New Years Eve ball drop? Jan 07, Valerie rated it it was ok Shelves: Characters meet and quickly have sex, very unrealistic and overdone. I guess I'm just not a fan of this kind of romance.

Also, Karina's kids are bad! I wanted to jump in there and slap them a couple times, especially the whole airplane thing. Reid's kids are wonderful. Wish it really existed! Another thing is this helped me with a couple book club challenges. I give this Cheesy.

I give this 2. Sorry Betsy, I still love you! Nov 24, Courtney rated it did not like it Shelves: Holiday Affair reminded me why I don't like to read many romances. One cliche ran into the next into the next and so on. I can't recall one original thought in the whole book. The characters are flat and the setting idyllic. The only reason I finished it was to complete my challenge. I would not read another book by this author. I was craving a sweet spice of Christmas.

Something that would be made into a Lifetime movie and this book was not it. Dec 26, Amanda rated it really liked it Shelves: This year I could not seem to muster up any Christmas spirit.

I wish I had read Holiday Affair before the holidays as it is full of all things Christmas-y. I loved the characters and I especially loved the descriptions of decorations, smells, activities and happenings at The Christmas House. The book painted a picture perfect Christmas setting for the story to unfold in.

I'll read this book again next year around Christmas as insurance that my holiday spirit doesn't go AWOL. Jan 02, Magpie67 rated it it was amazing Shelves: Love on a second chance is special especially when it includes children. A whole new meaning for what love means the second time around when blending all the ingredients is very important, even at the holidays. I'm going for that Christmas feeling all through the year for one of my reading goals. Read at least one Christmas book a month until December and then I will read much much more!!!!

Jan 03, Carla rated it did not like it Shelves: I got halfway through this one and finally decided that there were so many better books out there that I took it back to the library.

Product description

Although I think of myself as fairly tolerant, the dialog was just too cheesy and the plot not believable enough and the characters, although promising, didn't quite develop enough for me to care about them. Cute premise, but a letdown. Dec 06, jallioop added it Shelves: Dec 13, Sarah Eiseman rated it it was ok. This book was another holiday romance that Plumley set in Kismet, Michigan. I felt I read too much to give up, so I ended up finishing it. Much ado about nothing and not enough laughs to keep me interested.

Mar 23, Ada rated it liked it. Fairly enjoyable read, especially if you like light-hearted books with a splash of Christmas cheer. Worth reading and worth the time to find the other books set in the lovely town of Kismet, Michigan. Oct 31, Angela rated it did not like it Shelves: So bad I couldn't finish it. Cardboard characters and bad dialog.

I wanted to smack some sense into the main female character and all the children needed a visit from Super Nanny. It was so bad I put it down when it was the only book I had on a trip!!! Dec 17, Linda rated it really liked it Shelves: A feel good Christmas story. While I enjoyed the story it did seem slow moving at times.

Holiday Affair

Couldn't keep my attention. Jan 31, Janet Robel rated it liked it. Lovely Christmas story with engaging characters! To me, those sights, smells, and sounds evoke Halloween. Similarly, decorated evergreens, gingerbread cookies, and multicolored chaser lights all add up to Christmas. A story could be jam-packed with holiday accoutrements and still come up short with readers.

Feelings lie at the core of every successful romance. When a reader picks up your book, they want to feel something. Without emotion in your story, nothing else matters. What do I mean? Every other holiday has its own particular emotion and ambiance, too. After that, I choose characters and a storyline that, ideally, could only exist during that particular holiday. Otherwise, why not use another setting?
